Worship & Study —Sundays 9:45–10:45
In Pope Hall West today Jim Brown begins a five-week Adult Education class on the Book of
Confessions, which is the part of the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA) containing
some of the great affirmations of the Christian faith such as the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, the
Westminster Confession of Faith, and the Theological Declaration of Barmen (written by Lutheran
and Reformed Christians as a rebuke to Nazism). Most recently, in 1991, A Brief Statement of
Faith was added. Jim served on the Committee of 21 that drafted this statement and he will use
it as a lens through which to view the other creeds, each of which will be considered in the light of
Scripture and in their historical contexts. The Book of Confessions is available for purchase at the
class.
The Reimagining Team will present a three-week series beginning April 19 on its draft for a new
design for our church’s ministry. The first week will cover the great change happening across the
American religious landscape which prompted session to form this team. On April 26 we will
present core values that came from our listening sessions last fall which provide the basis for the
design. The final class on May 3 will present the new design for congregational comment. Please
join us!

Variations on O Sons and Daughters of the King
by Wilbur Held
Christ Is Alive!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
We have not seen the risen Christ,
But we see him in the lives
of those transformed by grace.
We have not seen Jesus face-to-face,
But we have seen him in the faces
of everyone whose love encourages us.
We have not touched the wounds from the cross,
But we have been called
to bring healing to the scarred of the world.
CANDLELIGHTING
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
bold in unison
How often have we heard the good news of forgiveness and
restoration? Yet, we are still reluctant to believe. God offers us new life,
yet we are afraid to let go of the old. Let us confess our doubts and
fears to the One who waits to make us whole.
We use a lot of words, Gracious God, but do little to turn them into
deeds. Instead of being of one heart and soul, we choose sides and
form groups of folks just like us. Blessed with great grace, we have
trouble sharing it with those who need it the most.
Forgive us, God of love. Forgive us, as we step out of our shadows
into your light. Restore us, as we reveal our brokenness. Hear us, as
we proclaim Jesus Christ as our Lord and our God.

Be Not Afraid
This is the good news we have to declare: God leads us out of the
shadows to walk in the light of Christ.
This is the word we have heard: our faithful God forgives our sins
and raises us to new life. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Installation of Rev. Antonio (Tony) Aja as Pastor of Westminster
Presbyterian Church next Sunday, April 19, at 3:00PM at
Westminster, 841 W Manhattan Ave, with a reception following.
Self Development of People (SDOP) is the third arm of the One
Great Hour of Sharing our gifts support. This Presbyterian Church
USA program provides training and resources in partnership with
groups that apply for funding of projects that will help people
become self sufficient. By making training and skills development
possible, groups of people who experience poverty, oppression
and injustice are able to breach such obstacles. Recently funded
projects in our own community are the Workers’ Center of Somos
Un Pueblo Unido and a Chainbreaker outreach project for low
income transportation needs in Santa Fe. SDOP has a long history
(since the late 1970’s) of funding immigrant, educational and
environmental groups in New Mexico. Session member Karen
Finney has recently served on the national board of SDOP and can
attest first hand to the difference our gifts have made in the lives of
marginalized people. OGHS is our opportunity to be a part of lifetransforming stories around the globe.

A Little Bit of History
It was a hard year in 1867. On January 6 the
th
Presbyterian Church was organized in the Palace
of the Governors. Two elders were elected (one
elder did not accept election) and 5 trustees. By
December 1867 the one elder had died. And then
one of the trustees, Chief Justice John P. Slough on December 15
was gunned down in the lobby of the Exchange Hotel (La Fonda).
A Tour of La Fonda has been scheduled by the History Committee
for April 24 from 10:00–12:00. Historical records suggest that an
inn—fonda—was established on this hotel corner by 1601. During
the 19th century the old adobe structure changed hands and names
(one being the Exchange Hotel) several times but remained a Santa
Fe landmark. The hotel was razed in 1919 and rebuilt as today’s
La Fonda. A signup sheet is on the table in the lobby if you wish to
participate.
Music & Art
TGIF Concerts every Friday night at 5:30PM. Free will offering. Pick
up a schedule in the lobby of the concerts through the summer and
take one to friends and neighbors and other music lovers.

The Back Pew Gallery is planning a community exhibit with art
coming in on Sunday, April 19, from 8:00AM to 12:00NOON. The
theme is Artful Birds and we are looking for painting, photographs,
sculpture, jewelry, wearable art, decorate art, furniture, etc. that
features birds. We will also have 15 small, unpainted wooden birds
ready for decorating by church artists. A signup sheet is on the
lobby table for anyone who would like to create a bird. They can be
collaged, painted, feathered, beaded, etc. and will be displayed in
the gallery along with others from the community. Let’s celebrate
spring in a unique way! Contact Carol Fallis 670.9250, Barb
Hutchison 982.0684, or Andy Ritch 471.6596.
