My name is Rosie and I am building and pushing a bed up the UK to raise money to set up a non-profit Children’s Home. I will sleep every night in the bed and I will do it all in pyjamas. This walk is 1,200 miles on the route planned and will take me 60 days. I will leave in May and finish in June. Rosie’s Big Bed Push Previous challenges Pound a day challenge My first challenge was living on £1 a day for 30 days, finishing at midnight Christmas day. Highlights from this included eating rice from Christmas dinner, fainting and losing nearly a stone in 10 days. I also slept on the streets, walked barefoot, had an ice bath, went without gas and electricity and collected clothes and handed them out to the homeless as mini challenges when financial targets were reached. Deaf, blind and silent challenge Director, Rosie Mai, then lived silent for 4 days, deaf for 4 days, blind for 4 days and then lived silent, deaf and blind for 4 days. This raised £1,118 online and £200 in cash donations. What am I raising money for? Vision Raise £200,000 to set up a non-profit Children’s Home where the young people receive the best level of care. Young people in the Home will be those that cannot be put into foster or adoptive care due to extreme behaviours. Education is planned around each Young person with 1 to 1 teachers who will enable that young person to REACH THEIR POTENTIAL. Financial plan The money is for 6 months running costs, in which time it will be set up that the local authority will pay Full Reach for the young people in our care, allowing the Home to then become self-sufficient, with all money left over after running costs used for the education, social and emotional benefit of the young people in our care and outreach services. Timescales This Home will be set up in 5 years, allowing time to raise the funds. Funds will be raised through my own personal challenges, of which many are planned over the next 5 years. Achievements to date So far I have raised over £6,000 towards the £200,000 target, which is a drop in the ocean, but has been raised with no help and no funds put in. As the challenges progress, they will get bigger and bolder and the aim is to raise more from each one. I have built a twitter following of nearly 25,000 so far and this is steadily growing, along with my reputation, support and awareness of what I am doing. What are the logistics? I will push the bed, sleep in it every night and wear pyjamas for my entire walk, it will take me 60 days and will cover 1,200 miles. I will walk 20 miles a day. Along the way I will make several stops, visiting villages, towns and cities, contacting local newspapers, magazines, radio and social media letting # them know when I will be passing through and to keep an eye out for me. The public will be encouraged to come and see me and get photos of them in my bed and share this on social media. I will have a text to donate sign to encourage passers-by to donate. I am building a bed myself, with no sponsorship or professional help. It will have off road wheels, be made of light weight wood and have 4 posts so that I can put a cover over when it is raining to protect me when I sleep at night. I will begin in May and end in June, with further publicity opportunities at festivals and events over the summer, including Foodies festivals, St Pauls Carnival, Boomtown and more to be confirmed. Donations page will be run as a sponsorship page, with people asked to donate per mile, 1p would make a total donation of £10, 2p would be £20 and so on. Warm up events will be held with e walking through major cities prior to the challenge starting. These dates are to be confirmed.
