April 2015
Published by Gaither High School, a Hillsborough County Public School, and Gaither PTSA
Dear Gaither Parents.
The final quarter for the 2014-2015 is underway! As
you know, our school year is full of important
assessments to determine individual student academic
achievement as well as overall school grade
components. It is critical that all students perform
their very best on all FCAT and FSA assessments, Advanced Placement
(AP) tests, End of Course (EOC) exams and final semester exams. Our
students and teachers have been working hard all year! Thank you to
everyone for demonstrating our Cowboy Commitment to Excellence.
On April 9th we will host our final Conference Night for this school year
from 4:30 - 8:30PM. On April 17th report cards will be distributed to
students. It is imperative for parents and students to review current
academic progress and continue on a trajectory of academic success to
finish out the second semester to earn high grade point averages and all
credits.
There are many upcoming exams, such as FCAT, EOC exams in History
and Biology, as well as AP Exams. It is imperative that students are in
attendance each day, are well rested, and arrive on time to school to eat a
healthy free breakfast. The encouragement, support, and expectations for
success you provide to your student are greatly appreciated!
Parents of Seniors, there are many upcoming events for the last quarter of
the year. Thank you for keeping your Senior focused on the 4th quarter
academic and behavioral expectations. I know that there is a lot of
excitement in the air, as Seniors have a little over two months left before
graduation day on June 2. All Seniors should be on-track to graduate and
know how many credits they currently possess, all assessments they have
passed, and other graduation requirements.
We thank you for being our partners in education.
Go Cowboys!

Dear Parents, Students and Teachers,
Spring is definitely in the air! With Spring Break officially over we are
moving quickly into one of the busiest times of the year. In the coming
weeks, the PTSA will be providing dinner for the teachers prior to
Conference Night on April 9, honoring some of our outstanding seniors at
our awards program on April 28, holding our last General Meeting on May
1, showing our appreciation for Gaither’s teachers during Teacher
Appreciation Week May 4 – 8, participating in Relay for Life on May 8 - 9,
and getting ready to celebrate graduation with the ultimate Gaither senior
tradition, Splash Bash, on June 2.
Gaither PTSA knows how important our teachers are and we greatly appreciate the time and effort they put
forth for our students. We would like to be able to offer special drawings each day during Teacher
Appreciation Week, so we are asking parents to consider donating a gift card to a local restaurant and/or
business. Gift cards can be dropped off in the Main Office in an envelope marked “PTSA/Teacher
Appreciation” no later than May 1. Thank you in advance for helping PTSA make this week special for our
teachers!
With that said, we welcome all the volunteers we can get in the coming weeks to ensure that each of these
events goes smoothly and successfully. Whether you have one hour to give or several, we would love to have
your help. We will be sending out reminders about the upcoming events, so be watching your email. If you are
not on our PTSA email list please let us know so can sign you up! To sign up for PTSA emails or to help out
with any of the above events please send us an email at [email protected].
Traditionally, our PTSA membership drive wraps up each March, but this year Florida PTA is sponsoring a
membership incentive for the PTSA that brings in the most new memberships during the month of April. If
you are not already a PTSA member, please pick up a form in the Main Office and turn it in by April 22.
Students will definitely want to be sure they are PTSA members in order to enjoy free frozen yogurt at our
next PTSA Appreciation Day to be held in May during all lunches!
We are looking forward to the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast for all Gaither volunteers to be held Friday,
May 1st at 8:00 a.m. in the Media Center. Please join us immediately following the breakfast as we will hold
our last General PTSA Meeting and elections.
Thank you all for your continued support and hard work for the PTSA and the students and staff of Gaither
High School.
Best Regards,
PTSA

IMPROVING GRADES
At this time of year, when spring fever sets in, we
sometimes see a drop in student attendance and an
increase in tardies. Grades drop as a result. We
recommend the following as a means to improve your
son or daughter’s grades:
1 Come to school every day and be on time.
The “guidmii” section of mySPOT lists Grade Point
Averages, including:
2 Complete all homework assignments and turn
them in to your teacher.
3 Review your notes to study for quizzes and tests
at home, even if you do not have “homework”
that night.
Bright Futures Scholarship GPA - composed of only
major subject grades, and includes honors, Advanced
Placement and Dual Enrollment points.
The
following Florida Universities are using it for
Admissions: Florida A&M University, Florida
International University, University of Central
Florida, University of Florida, University of North
Florida, University of South Florida.
4 Parents - use Edsby to monitor your son or daughter’s progress, and attend conference night on
April 9 from 4:30 – 8:30.
5 If you are struggling in a class, take advantage of
our free ELP tutoring afterschool – Mon, Wed
and Thurs from 3:15 – 4:15. Tutoring schedules
are available in the Guidance Office Lobby.
District GPA – all subjects, and includes honors,
Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment points.
The following Florida Universities are currently
using it for Admissions: Florida Atlantic University,
Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida State
University, New College of Florida, and University
of West Florida.
6 Parents - Contact teachers via email if needed:
[email protected] (please note
the dot between the teacher’s first and last
names). The teacher’s names appear on your student’s schedule.
7 Try to do your best every day!

Best Buddies
The goal of the Best Buddies Program is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities
for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies is where friendships are formed between our Special Education students and their regular Ed Peers at our school. Gaither has over 130 Peers and 54 Buddies!!!
This year, our major fundraiser for Best Buddies is the Friendship Walk. In order to continue pursuing inclusion and friendship for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it is crucial that we raise money
to keep the Best Buddies organization going. We invite you to join Gaither’s Friendship Walk Team on Saturday, April 18th at Gadsen Park (6901 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa FL 33611) as we support this worthy cause.
If you would like to join our team, visit the website:
http://www.bestbuddiesflorida.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=1122758&team=6237823
Click on register here and join our team: Gaither Walks for Friendship.
To support us, without walking, you may fill out the form on the website to donate toward our team.
Please help us raise money for our Best Buddies Chapter! We appreciate any and all donations that your club
is able to give. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us. Thank you in advance for your support.
WE ARE CURRENTLY $3500 AWAY FROM OUR GOAL

GAITHER HS PTSA
2014-2015 MEMBERSHIP FORM
Our goal is 100% membership – Students, Parents and Faculty!
Being a member of the PTSA allows you to gain a national voice in the future of our
children. The National PTA is a group of over 6 million parents and teachers joined
together forming a powerful advocacy group on behalf of the children across this nation. By joining the PTSA you are not obligating yourself to take an active role,
but you are helping to support PTSA's goals and objectives. Your membership
dollars and donations help fund the programs at Gaither.
Our PTSA sponsors many programs each year that benefit all students. Some of these
are: Star Revue Talent Show, Cowboy Express Academic Incentive Program, Senior Achievement Awards, Student & Faculty
Dodgeball Tournament, Splash Bash (an alcohol-free grad party at Adventure Island), and Senior Scholarships. ***Seniors
must join PTSA by December 31st in order to be eligible for PTA and/or PTSA scholarships.***
The cost for membership is $6 each for students, parents, grandparents, and teachers. Donations are also greatly appreciated.
Please note that $3.50 from every membership is sent to the State/National PTA, so only a portion of your dues supports our
school programs. Students and teachers also enjoy special benefits as PTSA members...like frozen yogurt during lunches once
they join PTSA!
Please make your check payable to: GHS PTSA. You may drop it off at the Main Office or mail it to: Gaither High School,
16200 N. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, FL 33618. If you have any questions, please call (813) 975-7340, ext. 330.
