The Games For Hope Foundation Who are we? The foundation was created to raise funds for children’s charities using a dynamic event: a Corporate Sports Benefit Tournament. This event promotes a fun team-building way, to engage everyone in a energetic atmosphere, while raising funds to support children charities. All Funds raised are allocated to the pre-selected children’s charities. During the course of the year leading up to the event, we help raise awareness of these important charities that have been selected from the Montreal community. We strive to be recognized as a key fundraising organization within the Canadian philanthropic community. GamesForHope.org 13 ANNUAL CORPORATE SPORTS TOURNAMENT th Benefiting… The Starlight Children’s Foundation Québec The Missing Children’s Network JDRF Games for Hope Foundation Our intentions • Using the platform of a sports tournament to fundraise and bring about awareness for children charities, while encouraging team building. • Current sport selection for the 2015 event day includes: volleyball • ice hockey ball hockey soccer basketball The net proceeds, our target 80%, from these fundraising activities shall be allocated to the pre-selected children’s charities for 2015. This year, three exceptional charities were selected: The Starlight Foundation Quebec The Missing Children’s Network JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) • • Raising awareness is equally important to us as raising funds within the Montreal community. Encouraging and supporting leading research for better treatment and prognosis of children’s illnesses, as well well as community programs which benefit children in need. Act as liaison by helping to refer families with sick children to a charity that can help alleviate and improve the child’s situation or illness. Assist in recruiting volunteers to work with charities • • Volunteer Commitment • 100% Volunteerism! We have been successful due to the Foundation's 100% committed volunteers, the corporate support and many individual supporters and participants. A summary of this year’s selected charities: The Starlight Children’s Foundation Quebec JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) The Missing Children’s Network is an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for seriously ill children and their families. The Foundation provides an impressive menu of both in-hospital and outpatient programs and services. A leader in delivering distractive entertainment therapies, over 12,000 Canadian children benefit from Starlight’s programs each month, and over 5,000 Quebec children a month are touched by Starlight. JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal. Since 1985, the Missing Children’s Network has worked with thousands of families of missing children who struggle each day with their unexplainable loss. Although we may never fully understand the depth of the anguish experienced by these families, we are all sensitive to the nightmare that they live. "Your child is missing!” Is a phrase that frightens us all and one that no one is ever prepared to for? These families need our help and together we can make a real difference in their lives. They provide wonderful programs and services to all of the children’s hospitals in the Montreal area (Montreal Children’s, St-Justine, Shriner’s, etc.). These include Nintendo Wii Game Units,Pet Therapy, Clown Therapy, Mad Science shows and many other services just to mention a few of the numerous programs they offer. Research funded by JDRF has led to many landmark advances in T1D science. We aggressively translate discoveries into treatments, drugs, and therapies that help people with T1D live healthier lives now, while we work toward a cure. Currently, JDRF is funding more than 50 human clinical trials, several of which are in the advanced stages of clinical testing needed before FDA approvals are required. JDRF has always been dedicated to maintaining the highest levels of efficiency to ensure that our time, resources, and dollars can achieve the greatest possible impact on the lives of people with T1D. We have a solid track record of funding research efficiently and effectively. More than 80 per cent of what JDRF spends goes directly to research and research-related education. Time slots for the various sports and sub-tournaments will be offered on a first-come first served basis. In order to reach the event goal of $350,000, we are strongly encouraging each team to raise a minimum of $2,500 or $300+ per player based on 8 players per team. In addition to individual fundraising, using the electronic fundraising software, company donations and/or sponsorships and proceeds from team fundraising activities (i.e. bake sale…etc.) can be included in the team goal of $2,500. Each team must register 8 players. HOWEVER, an UNLIMITED NUMBER OF NON-PLAYING MEMBERS CAN BE ADDED to assist with reaching the team fundraising target of $2,500. Note to Teams: • • • Raising less than $2,500 but greater than $1,250 will automatically lose one of their games by default. Raising less than $ 1,250 will automatically lose 2 of their games by default and will not have their team photo taken (which means no team poster and individual team photo cards as well) Raising over $4,000 will be provided with some wonderful prizes Other details, including tournament rules and directions to the Complexe Sportif Bell will be provided before April 22, 2015.
