2015 MATCH REPORT - PREMIER LEAGUE As with the first round Garville expected a tough game against Phoenix and that’s what they got. With Alicia Marzahn starting in GA and Chloe in WA it was a different look team. A turnover and good follow up gave us an early break, but strong pressure from Phoenix gave them a 5 point lead before we were able to score again. With wayward passes being swooped on by Phoenix and strong pressure forcing errors apart from a couple of nice high balls into Georgie Virgo it was all Phoenix and they went into the break with a 17-10 lead. A nice intercept from Sam Poolman gave us a good start but this was not rewarded and we gave it back. Some strong defense followed up by nice shooting by Lis Marzahn got us to within 4 points, but again Phoenix pulled away. Despite some hard work from Sam in the defence end, our efforts down court were foiled by the Phoenix defence and we were down by 9 at half time. Again Sam gave us some chances with two good defensive moves and a nice intercept by Georgia Brown got us back to 31-35 down at the 3/4 break. We let the score get out again to 7 points but kept showing good fight to come back again. We fought hard but too many missed goals made their mark and a strong effort was made by Alice Murt but again we didn’t capitalise and went down 50-45 at full time. Phoenix called time and with an improved effort hit the front with their shooters combining well with circle feeders. Bec Harvey subbed in for an injured Tamika Arias but Garville couldn’t capitalise on opportunities and Phoenix maintained their lead to get back to a 4 point lead at 1/4 time. Second quarter was goal for goal with not much change. Bec and Nicola Yeeles worked hard and our shooters combined well with good work from our feeders to reduce the lead to 2 points but Phoenix still held a 13-9 lead at 1/2 time. 3rd Quarter was our quarter and we got back to 25 all, then took the lead. Izzie Gilkes came on and had an impact in the defence end, and good shooting from Amelia Day and Lauren Bowshall who played solidly all game, gave us a 2 point lead but again Phoenix came back and led by 1 goal at the last break. We drew first blood to level after the break and the scores alternated for most of the last quarter with everybody working very hard up and down the court. With 3 minutes to go we were 1 point down with a chance to equalise with a good intercept from Izzie Gilkes. After an exciting last minute and a last desperate shot by Phoenix we finished with a 44 all draw. Best Players: Alice Murt, Bec Hyde Player of the Match: Lauren Bowshall
