The African proverb says, "It takes a village to raise a child" - but where is the village in the 21st century? It is on the Internet, but the missing link is the connection to the relevant local knowledge of places, services and activities that are focused on moms, parents-to-be and children. myBabyville is a web directory website / calendar that is a cross between Yelp and Trip Advisor for local parents. We connect families to the places and services they are looking for. At the same time we make it easy for companies that offer services to parents to find their target market! Compensation will depend on a variety of factors, including our ability to fundraise between now and the internship. TBC IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL • • • • • Be wholly responsible for improving upon the myBabyville user experience from a technical standpoint Support the launch of the site with our two key audiences – small businesses and moms (moms to be). Develop an improvement plan for the site with targets to be achieved over the internship period Support all marketing initiatives that convince all audiences to make myBabyville their preferred platform If the candidate is interested, this role could include the development of a dedicated app for myBabyville THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE HAS/IS • • • • • • • Excellent written / spoken English, good level of French Computer science degree with experience in o Ruby On Rails, MySQL, NGINX, Redis, Passenger. o HTML5, Javascript / jQuery, CSS3, AJAX, Canvas/ SVG, Bootstrap A passion for usability A good understanding of SEO - adaptation/ optimization 1-3 years of relevant expérience Self-motivated, goal oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team Passion and problem solving ability Desirable • An acute understanding of how difficult parenthood can be, and is passionate about helping mums AND/OR you are passionate about helping small businesses reach their target audiences
