Dear Parents
Mixed Football Years 1 & 2 – Monday 20th April
Well done to our football Team, Emily M, Jasmine, Monty, Jack M, Isaac and Connie. Mrs Hardcastle
reported that they played fantastically well, all working as a team. Monty was an amazing goal
keeper whilst Jack just kept on scoring, a brilliant effort all round. A special thank you to Mrs Milner
for assisting with the constant change of shin pads, Mrs Hardcastle was very grateful for the extra
pair of hands. Thank you to Mrs Hardcastle for accompanying the team to the event and thank you
also to parents for transporting.

Kwik Cricket Training
Our Class 3 children enjoyed a Kwik Cricket training session yesterday in preparation for the
forthcoming tournament at Pateley Bridge. We have been fortunate to have Daniel Woolston
coaching the children. Daniel is a keen cricketer and trained cricket coach who has been coming into
school to work with our children. He has also offered to run an after school football club on
Thursdays so please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested.
Unexpected Hot Weather
We are all enjoying the lovely sunshine which has come so early in the year, though, by the time this
newsletter reaches you, we may be having snow! Should the hot sunny weather continue please
send in a sun hat for your child (named) and either apply sun cream before they come to school or
send in a named bottle which can remain in school. It is easier for the children if you are able to
purchase once a day cream which means they do not have to spend time re-applying throughout the
day. Class 1 children will have their sun cream collected in and placed in a basket in the classroom
for ease of application as necessary. Staff will of course over see this with our youngest children
though we would appreciate you teaching your older child/ren how to apply correctly.
PTA News
May Day Cup Tombola: Your child should have brought home an empty plastic drinking cup which
the PTFA are requesting you fill and return to school prior to Friday 1st May. The children
particularly enjoy this stall and anything such as sweeties, pencils, small toys, bouncy balls etc. are
very popular as prizes in the cups.
Cash For Schools Clothing Collection: You should have received a white bin bag labelled “Cash for
Schools Clothing Collection”. The PTFA are trialling a different company to see if we are paid more
for our old clothing etc. In recent years the companies have reduced what they will accept so please
fill with clothing, shoes, belts, bags or soft toys. Please return on Thursday May 7th ready for a
9.00am collection. You are welcome to bring bags on Wednesday when school closes. Please do not
bring on Wednesday morning as we have nowhere to store the bags during the day.

Rotary Walk Helpers – Sunday 10th May
Thank you to Nikki George Powell, Danielle Shuttleworth and Lisa Homer for kindly volunteering
themselves and their families as helpers on this day. We desperately need more help on the day and
also offers of baking in order to make this a successful fundraiser for school. Could you please let
me know if you could spare an hour or two between 10 and 3pm on this day.

Payments
Mrs Hanson has issued reminders for lunch payments and swimming donations and would
appreciate payment on Monday in order to bank all monies. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated.
Christians Against Poverty
Please see the Parent’s noticeboard for a leaflet about free debt help. The free debt counselling
service, Christians against Poverty, “CAP” is available in our area. Should you be interested in this
service please take a leaflet or ring 0800 3280006.
May Day
We have had some very successful, knot free practising and all is looking good for May Day. Miss
Coulthard and some of our Class 3 children will be providing Samba music for us to parade through
the Village. Children need to be at the top of Glasshouses, the old top shop at 1.50 on Monday 4th
May. Please remember to take your child’s trainers home on Friday 1st May in order for them to
have them for the day. If your child has trainer type school shoes these are fine as long as they are
not smooth soled as the green is on a hill and the wet grass can be very tricky for dancing. Clothes
will be sent home next Friday. Girls are to wear white socks and hair done in bunches or ponytails
with blue or pink bobbles or ribbons if possible. Flowers for our Reception girls and Emily will be
given on the day. Please note that we try to prolong the life of our gold waistcoats and beautiful
cream dresses by asking parents to remove from children before they sample the delights of the
bouncy castle and ice-creams!. Please bring a change of clothes and be prepared for a quick change
once the dancing and photographs are completed.
PC Hickson visit
Our Class 1 children enjoyed a visit from PC Hickson as part of their topic “people who help us”. The
children enjoyed hearing about his role as Community Policeman and having a look at a real police
walkie talkie. He was very impressed by the police station in the classroom and even posed for a
photograph next to it with two young constables, Tabitha and Ryan.

British Heart Foundation – Jump Rope for Heart
We are taking part in a fundraising activity which will also help us get fitter as we practise our
skipping skills. Please find attached a letter giving details of this fundraiser. You will also find
sponsorship forms in your child’s book bag. Please note that the money raised will be split between
the British Heart Foundation and the village Defibrillator appeal fund. We are very keen to support
this fundraiser and help raise money to purchase this vital piece of lifesaving equipment for our
community.

New Poppy Display Cabinet
I am delighted to let you know that we now have a beautiful display cabinet in the hall which houses
our poppy plaques. You may recall that these were presented by the Mayor of Pateley Bridge, Mike
Holt as part of the Centenary Remembrance Celebrations. Each plaque has the name of a past pupil
of our school who fell in the First World War. Thank you to Mr and Mrs Drake for organising the
construction of the cabinet and to David George Powell for undertaking the making of it from
beautiful oak and reinforced glass. We have had several generous donations towards the cost of the
cabinet and would welcome any further donations should you wish to contribute. We are planning
to invite Mayor Mike Holt to an assembly timed to coincide with VE day when he will unveil the
cabinet. I am awaiting confirmation from Mike as to his availability , date to follow.
Parent’s Netball – Monday Evenings
Please see Jayne Fearnley if you are interested in joining our Monday night netball sessions. Last
year they were very popular and it was lovely to see lots of our ex pupils attending with mums.
Yours sincerely
