Off Ice Training
Attendance and commitment to an off ice program is a major contributor to accelerated skill development
and the overall enhancement of an athlete’s on ice performance and long term development. Our highly
qualified off ice instructors are also available for private or small group consultations. (See Brochure for
contact information).
 Skaters must do a proper off ice warm-up 20-30 minutes prior to their on ice session.
 Skaters must have a skipping rope and small hand/bath towel for off-ice classes
 Water bottle: Everyone having a water bottle allows the group to stay in one place during the session
and keep everyone well hydrated, which is essential for young people, especially athletes. Drinking lots
of water helps a skater’s body to function at its best by helping muscles work more efficiently and cool
down more effectively after hard work-outs.
 Proper running shoes (good arch support): It is very important for skaters to have appropriate foot
wear during off ice. Skaters’ feet need to be well supported while they are running and jumping. Proper
footwear also helps prevent injuries, not only to their feet, but to their whole body; the position of our
feet set up the alignment of all our joints.
 Snacks: Proper and adequate nutrition is crucial to staying healthy and having enough energy to train
and recover. Generally skaters arrive straight from school, skate and then go to off ice, so it’s essential
that they have quick and healthy snacks to munch on between skating and off ice. Granola bars, dried
fruit, fresh fruit, or whole wheat crackers (to mention a few) are a great idea. Ideally, to help skaters’
bodies to recover well after training, try to drink at least 500-750ml of water and have a snack or meal
within 1 hour of the end of their session(s).
Qualifying Levels and Placement/Movement of Skaters on Sessions for BRONZE, SILVER, GOLD
STARSkate, Comp B, Comp A, and Elite. Please consult with your coach and our Programs &
Progession Chart.
Skaters must register for the 2015 Summer School where they qualify as of the registration due date - no
exceptions. The Director of Skating and Professional Coaching Staff will assess all sessions and skaters
based on the number of skaters on the session, the viability of a session and the level of skaters to determine
any upward movement. If you are moving up a level in the current year, please contact the Club Office to
have your registration type changed to the new level. After the registration deadline, skaters may add
sessions at the next lower level if space permits.
Guest Skating
Guest Skating is permitted if space permits. Check our Website and Notice Boards for full sessions that do
not allow Guest Skating.
