PAWS PRIDE - WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS
TEAMS 5-3 AND 5-4: Spring has sprung and the third trimester has begun. In Math, the fifth
graders are coming up to the last two units! We are exploring volume with geometric shapes as well
as understanding probability, ratios, and rates. These last few units the students have been working
well together during class activities and showing off all of their skills!
In Language Arts, “What can we learn from encounters with the unexpected?” is the Big
Question in Reading Street Unit 6. We will be focusing on the unexpected effects humans can have
on nature. We will also be reading, King Midas and the Golden Touch and discussing how we can
learn from the results of our actions. MVMS is also getting ready for our Summer Reading kick off!
Each student will be choosing a book to read this summer, which will be followed up with a Book
Chat in the fall! Stay tuned for more information about this summer’s book choices!
In Social Studies, we are wrapping up our unit on Colonization and starting to learn about the
causes of the American Revolution. We studied the lost colony of Roanoke as well as Jamestown
and the factors that helped to make it a successful colony. We learned about the events that shaped
early settlements in New England and the development of the original 13 colonies! The
Revolutionary War is always a fun topic to cover at the end of the year. The students’ will be
reading many different books and watching some videos from the Liberty Kids series to learn about
these important events in a fun and educational way!
In Science, we are learning all about plant reproduction, soil, and the rock cycle. This is a great
time for us to really explore our environment and take a good look at the plants all around us. This
warm weather has also really helped us to enjoy the beauty that plants have to offer!
Have a great end of the year!
