GOP Convention Strategies Launches Again - In Cleveland - for 2016
Washington, DC -- GOP Convention Strategies, the acclaimed and experienced Republican convention
services firm, today announced the launch of its Cleveland operations and highlighted the 2016 team.
Collectively, the GOP Convention Strategies (GOPCS) team has been involved in more than a dozen
national political conventions, going back as far as 1976 in Kansas City. In 2008 in St. Paul and again in
2012 in Tampa, GOPCS provided convention services, including strategic planning, logistics, destination
services, and accommodations, to more than 50 clients and produced more than two dozen events - from
40 person breakfasts to nationally broadcast policy events, and from state delegation hospitality events to
large scale celebrations with live, nationally known acts.
GOPCS’s clients include a wide array of organizations including Fortune 500 companies, national trade
associations, non-profit groups, individual VIPs and state party delegations.
Founders Scott Cottington and Darrell Henry are returning, as well as Renee Dabbs, who headed Tampa
operations in 2012, LeeAnn Petersen of Convention Baseball fame, and Rick Shelby, former Chair of the
Oklahoma GOP and 1984 interim RNC Convention Manager, will again serve as Senior Advisor.
New to the team this cycle is Matt Cox of Cox Consulting Group, who will be GOPCS’s instate partner
and manage Cleveland operations. Matt has tremendous professional reach among the Ohio business
community, the Columbus Capitol crowd and the Ohio Republican Party. “Bringing Matt aboard is a big
score for us”, said partner Darrell Henry, “he has great relationships across the board and is a strategic
thinker.” Also, on the team as legal Counsel is Heather Sidwell Morris, former counsel to the RNC and
the RNC Convention Committee on Arrangements.
A national party convention presents a one-of-a-kind opportunity for corporations, trade associations, and
non-profit groups to present themselves and their issues to decision makers at all levels of government
across the country, said Scott Cottington, co-founder of GOP Convention Strategies. “This is the Super
Bowl of politics, and we are the team with the best mix of local knowledge and national experience.”
GOP Convention Strategies will again offer its full range of convention planning services. The team can
be retained to arrange every aspect of an organization's convention involvement and take care of the
important details ensuring that clients meet their political, business, or issue advocacy goals.
“Now is the time to start planning, and our team has already been on the ground, mapped out the town,
secured prime venues and hotels”, said Darrell Henry. “We put our clients in the saddle for the
convention, so they’re not saddled by convention logistics.”
Whether an organization is looking to promote itself, highlight an important issue, or forge and strengthen
business and political relationships, GOP Convention Strategies expertise will streamline the political and
logistical hurdles commonly faced by party convention participants and sponsors.
