Sailing Instructions
All forms mentioned below are available at Hamptonyc.com. Select Adult Sailing.
1.
DATES: Race dates; April 24, May 08, May 22, June 12, June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug 28,
September 11, September 25, October 9.
2.
ENTRIES: Each competitor must fill in a registration form not later than 5:45 on the date of
each race, or check in with prior agreement with the race committee. The waiver and sonar
yearly use form must be signed before the first race of the season. The regatta is open to HYC
Women members or Women participating in the Limited Members Adult Sailing Program.
Participants age 18 or over. For early Registration please fill in registration form and send it to
HYC, Attn: Hampton YC Women Sailing, 4707 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, VA 23669.

RULES
This race will be governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
as adopted by the United States Sailing Association (US SAILING, these Sailing Instructions and
any changes made during the mandatory Skippers Meeting on each race day.
4.
CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be announced at the mandatory skippers meeting at
6:00 p.m. of each race day.

CLASS FLAGS
Sonar CLASS FLAG+ Women sailing class Flag- Pink Pirate Flag
6.
RACING AREAS
The racing area is the Hampton River and the vicinity of the Hampton River Entrance Channel in
the Harbor.
7.
MARKS
Possible Race Course marks are, but not limited to, R4 and R10 in the Harbor, R 18 in the
Hampton River, and D a drop mark dropped by the Race Committee. All marks are to be
rounded to port, except for R 14 and G 13 at the entrance of the Hampton River, which are to
be treated as a gate.
8.
THE COURSES
The course for each day will be announced at the mandatory 6 p.m. Skippers Meeting on each
race day.
9.
ATTENTION SIGNAL
The attention signal for each race day is at 6:30 p.m. or earlier if all participating boats are in
the starting area. An attention signal will be made five minutes before the starting sequence.
10.
THE START
Start and finish line is between the orange flag on B dock and the blue painted rocks on
the Hampton University shore. Starts will be in accordance with RRS 26.
Start Sequence:
5 minutes- SONAR Class Flag+ Pink Pirate Flag up
4 Minutes- P flag up
1 Minute- P flag down
0 Class Sonar flag and Pink Prate Flag down and Start.

11.
RECALLS
There will be no General Recalls. Boats over early will be hailed and required to restart.
12.
FINISH
The Finish Line is between the orange flag on HYC B Dock and the blue painted rocks on
Hampton University shore.
13.
PENALTIES
A boat infringing a rule of RRS Part 2 may take a penalty in accordance with RRS 44.2, (One
Turn Penalty).
14.
SCORING
Scoring as per RRS Appendix A (the Low Point Scoring System). Each Friday night will be
scored individually. At the end of the season there will be awards for accumulative participation.
15.
SAFETY
A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Committee as soon as possible.
16.
EQUIPMENT
Each participant must wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS rule 4, Decision to
Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal
injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
AWARDS Women's Sailing wine glasses Awards for each participant, wine charm trophies will
be presented for winning skippers and crew 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. At the end of the season
there will be awards for accumulative participation.
