ON THE 16TH & 17TH May 2015
NOTICE OF RACE
Notice is hereby given that the above sailing event is scheduled to take place at the Island
Sailing Club on the 16th & 17th of May 2015, both dates inclusive, and race entries are invited
in terms of this Notice.
CLASSES
LASER and HALCAT and HOBIE 14 class
RULES
The Regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)
for 2013- 2016 of the International Sailing Association Federation (ISAF) subject to any
changes made in terms of this Notice.
RULE CHANGES
The RRS will be changed as follows, in terms of rule 86.
ADVERTISING
Category C will apply in terms of the ISAF advertising code RRS Appendix 1 Regulation 20.
ELIGIBILITY
Competitors in the Championship classes shall comply with RRS Appendix 2 regulation 21,
which requires that the helmsman shall be members in good standing of a yacht club
affiliated to and in good standing with South African Sailing (SAS). The name of the Yacht
Club shall be stated on the Entry Form, and current valid SAS membership cards must be
presented at Registration.
Participants must be 35 years or older on the date of the regatta

ENTRIES
Entries shall be submitted on the Entry Form attached to this Notice of Race accompanied
by the Entry Fee together with copies of the appropriate registration certificates, to the Race
Secretary at the address below.
The Entry Fee is R250.00 per boat for Lasers and Halcat and Hobie 14 . Entries will be
accepted until 9.30am on the 16th May at the venue.

Payment of entry fees may be made in cash at the venue or by direct/electronic deposit to
the regatta account. Where direct deposit is used, evidence of the deposit must be furnished
with the entry form.

SCRUTINY of EQUIPMENT
All yachts competing shall, if requested, be made available for scrutiny by official Class
measurers for compliance with the Class Rules.
REGISTRATION.
Entries shall be confirmed by registration at the Island Sailing Club between 08h00 and
09h30 on Saturday 16th May 2015 at which time entries will close.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS.
Sailing Instructions will be available for viewing on race notice board or from the regatta
secretary at registration. If so required
SCHEDULE OF RACING
Race briefing shall be held in the hall at 10.15 on Saturday 16th May.
All racing will take place in the Durban Harbour on Olympic and/or Windward Leeward
courses.
Saturday 16th May 2015 - Racing will not start before 11h00. A lunch break on the sandbank
will be scheduled between racing at the bridge officers discression.
Sunday 17th May 2015 - Racing will not start before 10h00 and no race will start after 14h00
No maximum races are scheduled

SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
All competing yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements.

SCORING.
The ‘Low Points’ scoring system RRS Appendix A4 will be used. As modified buy the KZN laser
master seniority handicaps
Handicap is as follows
Lasers to be scored on scratch ie radial and full rig, rig sizes may not change during regatta ie
all at scratch then masters handicaps to be added as below:
The Low Point scoring system RRS A2, will apply. To determine the overall masters
winner, for each individual race
3 points shall be added to Apprentice Masters (35-44),
2 points to Masters (45-54)
1 point to Grand Masters (55-64)
0 points to Great Grand Masters (65 & over).
0 points to ladies ( all ages )
Masters age at date of registration will be determine age category. Where a Halcat is
sailed double handed the age of the skipper will determine the category.
Each boat's series score will be the total of her race scores, with her worst score
discarded if 5 or more races are completed.
Should 10 races be sailed there will be two discards
3 races completed to constitute a championship.
Ties shall be broken in favour of sailors in the older age category.
In the case of a tie between competitors in the same age category it shall be broken
in accordance with RRS A2. This SI changes RRS A2.
PRIZES, AWARDS & PRIZE GIVING.
Laser class will receive Floating Trophies to be awarded to the Skipper in accordance with
the Masters Handicap System.
Laser Class first, second and third will receive prizes and trophies
Halcat Class first, second and third will receive prizes but no trophies
Hobie Class first, second and third will receive prizes but no trophies
GALLEY
Galley will be open the entire weekend selling liquid refreshments. Breakfast rolls will be
available. Lunch will be sold, and served on the sand bank on Saturday, and at the club on
Sunday.
Those staying for evening meals will be legible for lucky draw for bottle of 3 SHIPS WHISKY
Whisky Tasting will occur early evening
Braai fires to be lit in the evenings
Bring family down for braai in evening and enjoy Island hospitality
LIABILITY
Participation in this event is entirely at the risk of competitors and no responsibility for
damage or injury resulting therefrom will rest with the organising authority, class
associations, or any persons concerned with the conduct of the regatta
