IBS teamed with Hardy Services to install a set of bespoke, electricallyoperated flood gates at Dock Bridge in Lythem, Lancashire. The new penstocks were mounted on an existing wall, replacing gates that had been in place for a number of years. Founded in 1994, IBS began providing spill barriers in its local area. Twenty years later, the company is one of the world’s leading suppliers of demountable flood protection systems. With this growth, however, come new challenges. The existing walls were uneven which meant the engineering team had to create a custom solution to create a watertight fit. A threeman team used a crane to lift the penstocks into place then secured them using clamps and fixings. Despite the challenge of fitting to the standing walls, the job was completed on time and to the satisfaction of the environment agency.
