Digital Media
each student completed their
community service project.
This year’s project was to create
a dynamic Intermediate School
District (ISD) directory for the
State of Michigan. Each ISD had
several categories of information
listed upon hovering over that
respective county’s area. The
finished product was created
in Adobe Flash and is available
on the CGRESD website (http://
cgresd.net) and hopefully soon
on MDE’s website (http://www.
michigan.gov/mde) too!
Instructor Jim Langley
Digital Media focuses on the following areas:
Business, Digital Design, Game Design,
Networking and Web Design. There are
both first and second year students. Each
second year student works toward attaining
certification and on special projects which
range from production quality animations to
3-D modeling and level design.
First year students recently finished
their game production studios
project. GPS is a game design
project where we take a basic
rol playing game engine and
drastically overhaul it. Each
aspect of game development is
taken into consideration while
modeling a game production
company. This project divides students
into 5 departments: Art & Design, Back-end
One of the requirements for all CTE
development, Mapping & Story, Marketing,
programs
is to participate in a competi
and Sound production. Each department
tion. These competitions range from simple
has it’s own manager and they are part
within the classrooms to state sponsored compe
of weekly managerial meetings where
titions.
During the last three weeks we have had
production value,
three of our larger ones. Two teams of four from the
milestone accomplishments
culinary
program
travelled to Lansing to compete in the Nutrition
and other relevant topics
and Management competitions offered by the Michigan Restaurant
are discussed. Before
Association. They took home second and sixth place finishes. The
we started GPS,
students from criminal justice competed at Delta College in events that
included a half mile shuttle run, pushups, sit-ups and quiz bowl. They finished in third
place overall which ties the programs previous best finish. A team of four from the construc
tion trades travelled to the West Shore ISD where there was a competition of building a deer blind
in 3 hours. A total of 24 teams competed and the team from CGRESD earned a second place. All of
these programs represented the organization in a positive and professional matter and we are proud of the
student’s accomplishments.

Health Occupations
Instructor Erin Linhart
Health Occupations is a course designed to get students ready for
various health careers from entry level nursing or medical assisting and degree required careers such as physical therapy
or even medical school. Students focus their energy for the
first portion of the year on didactic training in anatomy and
physiology, medical terminology, medical communication
and record keeping, legal responsibilities and ethics, and
technical skills training. Each student leaves the classroom
sufficient in taking blood pressure with a traditional cuff and
stethoscope, auscultation skills with the stethoscope, and
ability to accurately take a pulse and respiration rate. Students
also have a two year CPR/First Aid/AED certification from a
two day course with Mobile Medical Response earned just prior
to spring break. Lastly, students receive an education equipping
them with an understanding of blood glucose testing and a background of prevention and treatment for several prevalent diseases
in the world today.
After finishing the didactic portion of the class, students are
now out in the communities getting a first hand experience
of health care. Job shadowing, or placements as they are
termed in the CTE world, started the week following
spring break and will continue through senior’s last day,
or May 27 for junior students. In the previous years,
these job shadowing opportunities have to
employment for some students. Locations in the
local communities include Mid Michigan Medical
Centers in Gladwin and Clare, the new Mid
Michigan Harrison Health Park, Benchley
Chiropractic in Clare, Evergreen Physical
Therapy in Clare, Tendercare in Clare, Foot
and Ankle Specialists of Clare and the
Clare-Gladwin Area School. Other local
facilities who have previously taken
students include Old 27 Vet, the Clare
Animal Hospital, Humane Animal
