Attendees had the opportunity to interact on key questions regarding a
healthy community … What does community capacity mean to you?
What would be outcomes of building community capacity in the arena of
physical, mental, education, spiritual and emotional health? Diverse lens
is important for real change.
Health Communities 1422 Grant Work update

Kachina introduced Caitlin Hill, HLC’s1422 Grant Coordinator. The work
focuses on preventing and managing chronic illness and diabetes. A one
page summary is available on line. It is a comprehensive piece of work
with 15 strategies.
Worksite Wellness Update by Sandy Brown:

Worksite Wellness is one of the strategies of 1422. It focuses on diabetes
education and expanding worksite wellness through businesses. If you
have a work site that would be interested in a presentation on worksite
wellness and lifestyle change programs, contact Sandy Brown.
Housing Stability and Educational Outcomes

Michael Mirra is coming to Longview to talk about a school-housing
partnership, which will kick off a regional conversation. State level
(2million for a grant program for partnership between schools and
homeless service providers), regional, and local.
Connections Initiative Update by Barbe West
The Connections Initiative (HLCs Data Collection Work Group) has a long
term goal to focus on high-utilizers who face systems-barriers. This group
work will start by sharing data (put together agreements) and then work
with population based CHWs to gather more data from neighborhoods
to influence at the neighborhood level. BUILD GRANT could potentially
support this work.

E-Cigarette update by Joy Lyons for Deb

An E-cig training was held on Feb 13th, where attendees learned the
language and how to write ordinances; Washougal was the first county
to pass an ordinance.
Clark Co Board of Health has a hearing April 22nd- 9-10am (1300
Franklin St at Council Chambers) looking at restricting use of inhalant
delivery systems in public places. This work group issued a fact sheet
available on Youth Data: In 2014 25% of our 12th graders in ESD reported
using e-cigs or vaporizers and 21% of 10th graders. It’s larger compared to
smoking. E-cigs is on local and state agenda. Bryce Hackett has been to
the state legislature twice this session to bring the youth voice. He talks
from a peer perspective.
Healthy Eating Update by Sandy Brown:

The goal of the Healthy Eating work group is to reach SNAP participants
so they are eating more fresh produce. Please feel free to join the work
group. Food Insecurity initiative – huge grant in WA – expanding access
to produce to SNAP participants – thru farmers markets in season – and
frozen in off season – also working with Safeway to provide incentives to
purchase more produce … and offering grocery store tours. How can we
leverage the funding within the communities?

For legislative updates reflected by the HLC, Andy referred to page 6 of
HLC’s strategy document.

Regarding water fountains and on site meals at schools, the House
budget is 5 million; yet to see Senate budget …
Safe Routes has money in both house & senate
Supportive services benefit for Medicaid, (chronically homeless who
need supportive services to stay housed using Medicaid) provides for
DHS staff to write it; senate version does not include it.
E-Cigs: The bill is still alive in the house

Another work group of the HLC has been formed called Clinical Linkages.
Michael reported this day to be an anniversary. A year ago was
identification of 3 sites; and now we have 26 trained CHWs and are
getting started within each of those communities.

HLC will produce a quarterly communication report before each HLC
