1 - bottle Kapscandy State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée 2011
estimated value: $100
702
The Kapcsandy (pronounced cap-chandee) family purchased the historic State
Lane vineyards in 2000 after phylloxera destroyed the vines in 1999. From
2001 until 2005, the grande dame of Napa Valley winemakers; Helen Turley
along with her viticulturist husband, John Wetlaufer produced the Kapcsandy
Family wines. Starting in 2005, Dennis Malbec of Château Latour fame along
with Rob Lawson took over winemaking responsibilities. In just seven short
years, the Kapcsandy Family wines have vaulted from newbie to cult status
among wine lovers nationwide.
“The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Cuvée State Lane Vineyard (1,800
cases produced from a blend of 66% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and the
rest the other Bordeaux varietals) is soft, round and charming. It comes across
as a Pessac-Leognan style of wine with some earthiness, sweet currant fruit,
roasted herbs and a round, juicy finish. Drink it over the next decade.” (90
points) -Robert Parker

An Afternoon at Early Mountain Vineyards
estimated value: $500
705
We are thrilled that Early Mountain Vineyards is able to join us for today’s
tasting. Here is your chance to spend a lovely afternoon at their winery in
Virginia Wine Country - Madison, Virginia specifically (just under two hours
from DC). Your party of four will be treated to a tour, tasting, and lunch at
the vineyard. Located in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains,
Early Mountain Vineyards sits on land with a deep and rich history. It was
Revolutionary-war veteran Lt. Joseph Early, the first landowner of this
property, who learned of a stranger traveling through the region in search
of shelter and sent word that the stranger was welcome in his home for the
night, only to discover it was General George Washington, under whom he
had served at Valley Forge. So, yes, George Washington slept here. Now these
gracious rolling hills have become home to vineyards that enable great wine
to be crafted here, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that same spirit of
warm welcome and hospitality to those who come through our doors.
All guests must be over the age of 21. Expires April 1, 2016.

All signed by David Ramey
2012 summed up to be a perfect vintage with clear sunny days and cool evenings.
Ramey Wine Cellars is dedicated to creating high quality, handcrafted wines
with balance and richness from the area’s finest vineyards. Their philosophy is
their process: It’s about respect for the land. Nature guides our process and we
listen – closely. It’s about terroir. The vineyards are selected for their ability
to sustainably produce the highest quality fruit. The soil must be right for
the climate, which must be right for the terrain, which must be right for the
varietal. It’s about harmony – the marriage of Old World methods with New
World innovations. It’s about a family of wines crafted for the now, but even
better with age. Bold, but in check, sensual, these are wines in perfect balance.

1 - Magnum Continuum Estate 2011
estimated value: $400
708
“Another strong effort by Tim Mondavi from this relatively new project
on Pritchard Hill, the 2011 Continuum’s final blend was 75% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot. Harvested
late, between October 17 and November 3, it spent 19 months in 85% new
French oak. The wine’s impressive deep ruby/plum/purple color is followed
by notes of blackcurrants, black cherries and spring flowers. Like most 2011s,
it has evolved early, but it is a medium to full-bodied beauty that represents
one of the most successful wines of the vintage.” (92 points) -Robert Parker

up-front style. Some black raspberry as well as hints of lard and espresso
roast are intermingled with the red and black fruits in this wine, which has

1 - Double Magnum Retour Pinot Noir 2008
estimated value: $400
712
We miss our friend Lindsay Woodard, proprietor of Retour, and thought this
would be a great way to include her wonderful wine from the Willamette
Valley. “Cherry confiture, sandalwood, vanilla, almond extract, and hints
of caramel mark the nose and rather confectionary palate of Woodard’s
2008 Pinot Noir. Smoky black tea notes offer further diversity in a sappy,
impressively persistent finish.” (90 points) -The Wine Advocate

1 - Magnum Rhys Vineyards Bearwallow Pinot Noir 2010
1 - Magnum Rhys Vineyards Bearwallow Pinot Noir 2011
Receiving 92 points from the Wine Advocate, “…the 2010 Pinot Noir
Bearwallow Vineyard stands apart from all of the other wines in the Rhys
lineup. It possesses precise, brilliant aromatics and finely sculpted fruit.
Overall, the Bearwallow is a subtle, refined Pinot built on finesse, with
gorgeous underlying minerality and tons of class. The 2011 Bearwallow,
receiving 93 points from Stephen Tanzer, is described as: “Vivid red. Strong
raspberry and cherry-cola aromas, with suave floral and Asian spices adding
complexity. Silky and very fresh, with impressively focused red fruit flavors
and a building note of rose pastille. The persistent, gently tannic finish
emphatically repeats the red berry and floral notes and lingers with bright,
spicy intensity.”

1 - bottle Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 1993
estimated value: $100
717
Awarded 93 points by Robert Parker, “…the 1993 Cabernet Sauvignon is
crammed with so much sweet, blackcurrant fruit that it does not take a
genius to figure out what this wine is all about. It offers an opaque garnet/
purple color, a moderately intense, cassis, smoky, herb, and earthy nose,
fabulous concentration, good muscle, and a boatload of sweet tannin. While
drinkable, it needs another 4-5 years of cellaring. It will easily last for 20
years. The 1993s and 1994s are in bottle, and the 1993s, which were released
several months ago, are disappearing before any bottles hit the retail shelf.
Readers who could neither afford nor find the Cabernet Sauvignon or Maya
Proprietary Red, will have to wait another ten months for the release of the
1994s. Drink: 2000 - 2016”
