Sign up for August Mission Trip
to Avery County
There is still space for Hudson members and friends, age
16 and up, on our mission trip to Avery County, North
Carolina, August 2-8. We will be working with Habitat for
Humanity on a new construction project for a family in
need of a home. The cost for each team member will be $150.00,
which will cover housing and a donation to HFH. The mission committee
is covering costs for meals while in Avery County.
In addition to team members to work on the house, we are looking
for one or two people to come as cooks for the group. Avery County
HFH has kitchen and dining facilities at the
conference center we’ll be staying at. We
already have 10 signed up to go and would
like 4-5 five more volunteers. Contact Mike
Law at [email protected] or Mission
Committee chair Dan Vig at danrvig@
yahoo.com for more details.

Mac's Meanderings Keeping Worship at the Center
“Christian worship joyfully ascribes all praise and honor, glory and
power to the triune God”
What do you notice about the above sentence? It’s about our
orientation isn’t it? In worship, we remember how to orient ourselves
towards God. Worship initially is about putting God back at the center
of our life and, frankly, al the center of all creation. First and foremost worship is about giving
back to God the power, glory, honor and praise that only God deserves.
“In worship the people of God acknowledge God present in the world and in their lives.”
One of the phrases that has been on my heart over the past six months or so is that ‘Christ
is at the center of the room.” Do we believe that Christ is really present wherever we are?
Worship reminds us of this presence. We are in Christ. What an enormous relief that we do
not have to carry every burden on our own. Christ is there to carry our burdens.
“As they respond to God’s claim and redemptive action in Jesus Christ, believers are
transformed and renewed.”
Once we are reoriented in worship, we open ourselves to responding to God’s movement.
We belong to God. Despite our efforts to constantly put everything else in life before God,
God’s mercy prevails. God’s grace through Jesus Christ is our common bond in community.
When we truly believe we have received grace, we are renewed and relieved and our
ultimate response is praise for God and grace toward others.
In worship the faithful offer themselves to God and are equipped for God’s service in the
world.
Worship is about reorientation. It is about opening up and offering all we are to God. When
we do that, we also open ourselves to being equipped by God to live into our calling.
The above bolded words are from the Presbyterian Directory For Worship. They help us
understand what we are doing in worship and what God is doing. More and more you
are bombarded with choices on the weekends. With all of the possible choices, I hope
you will continue to make worship a priority for you and your family members. Our weekly
reorientation towards God through worship is the most important choice you can make
every week. It makes a difference when you are here at Hudson for worship. Even if you
travel this summer, don’t take off from worship. Go to church wherever you are. Come
home and share with the staff and others what you experienced in worship elsewhere.
Above all keep worship as the priority! Let us worship God!

Strawberry & Flowering Basket
Fundraiser
Saturdays 5/2 and 5/16,
9:30 am to 2 pm
Sundays 5/3 and 5/17,
10 am to 12:15 pm
Have you ever walked in Jesus’ shoes?
(most likely sandals – but you get the gist).
Have you ever tried to think what was going
through his mind when he via travelled down
the Via Dolorosa. What did he feel? What
did he smell? What did he see? His journey
to the cross was chocked full of emotions.
Your children in KidzPraise experienced a
touch of what happened when we took that
journey through our church. We dressed up,
created our Palm leaves and journeyed to
marketplace, the temple, the baptism, the last
meal, the judgement, and His crucifixion. We
felt oils, kicked over tables, walked through
our gardens, heard the death sentence and
went to the tomb (and even went inside). Our
Journey ended with “HE IS RISEN!! HE HAS RISEN
INDEED!” with butterflies and celebration.
What is KidzPraise? It’s where our children meet
new friends, cement relationships, learn about
Jesus, understand God and his awesomeness,
bond with their forever faith families and most
importantly, build their faith. Where else can
your child grow spiritually with those that gave
their promise to help raise your children with the
love of Christ? If you are interested in learning
more about this wonderful ministry, please
contact Lizzie Graybill, KidzPraisie Coordinator
- [email protected]
Please mark your calendar NOW to come
and support this wonderful fundraiser for
the Dolby/Underwood Teacher College
Scholarship program of our church. We are
trying to raise $10,000 to provide scholarships
for two outstanding high school seniors (one
girl, one boy) to attend Yei Teacher Training
College (YTTC) in South Sudan in 2016. The
scholarships are named in honor of two
individuals in our church who were amazing
supporters of this Global Missions program
during their lives: Virginia Dolby (1924 - 2008),
and Herb Underwood (1925 – 2011).
The strawberries are
being supplied by the
same farm we’ve been
with for the last 5 years:
The Rudd Family Farm
in Greensboro.
The
berries will be custom
picked for Hudson at
their peak ripeness
and flavor. We will
also have a wonderful
selection of potted geraniums and hanging
geranium baskets (from Whitaker Farms and
Greenhouse).
This will be our fourth year of raising money
for the Dolby/Underwood Scholarship
Program! An official from YTTC recently
wrote this letter of thanks to Hudson:
“The teacher training you are sponsoring is
for a lifetime. May the name of the Living
God be praised, may He continue to
replenish and multiply threefold what you
give.”

Deputy Principal for Academics

Youth News
New Brochure for Youth Programs at Hudson – The Youth Committee has worked diligently over the last
few months to update and overhaul the Youth Brochure. These new brochures are displayed around the
church, so be sure and check them out and share them with your friends. Special thanks to Lily James for
creating the cover logo, Pat Cash for layout and printing, and Cathy Bentlage for her amazing editorial
eye.
Way-Off Gratitude - A special THANK YOU to all of you who chipped in to make last month’s Way-Off
Broadway Variety Show such a huge success. Not only was the food delicious, the event was well
attended (around 165), the acts were fabulous, and we also raised over $5,500 for our summer trips and
the youth scholarship fund. Well done! Thank you to
all of you who cooked, brought food, helped set up,
clean-up, perform, or made a donation!
Youth Volunteers & Teachers Needed for Next Year –

out what it means for us today? Do you like having
fun & hanging out with bright, young, & talented
people who listen to “way cool music?” Do you
enjoy discussions about movies, politics, relationships,

HMPC Foundation Update
The Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Foundation is a charitable foundation which receives gifts
and bequests to further the work and outreach of HMPC. The Foundation operates under bylaws,
a spending plan, and an investment policy. The business of the Foundation is governed by a nine
member board of directors elected by Session.
• The objective of the Foundation is:
• To provide a vehicle for members and friends of HMPC to make contributions of a permanent
nature
• To invest and administer gifts in a responsible and prudent manner
• To expand the ministry of HMPC at home and abroad
• To encourage greater Christian stewardship among members and friends of HMPC
Being a Christian is, in large part, being a good steward of what God has given us. Yet one of
the most important opportunities for stewardship is too frequently forgotten or ignored. By making
a final gift, a bequest, we make a powerful statement about the purpose and intent of our lives. In
so doing, we direct our resources toward continuing God’s work far beyond the boundaries of our
own lifetime.

Each One, Greet One
WELCOMING COMMITTEE
Spring is a time of renewal and growth. The Welcoming Committee at Hudson is a big part
of renewal and growth.
When visitors attend our church for the first time we try to make their experience in a new
place as friendly as possible.
The Greeters, who are volunteers under the Welcoming Committee, are
positioned at the main entrance and Cranbrook entrance to say hello to all
and extend a hand of friendship.
Our committee is in the process of trying to start up a new way to reach out
to our visitors by giving them a gift upon their first visit.
We also send them a note card, again as a gesture of thanks and friendship.
Hopefully all visitors feel welcome and appreciated for visiting
In order for our church to grow, we must reach out to all visitors, embrace them and encourage
their return. Our job is well done when the visitors return. Hopefully, this beautiful weather will bring
people out and we will keep having a good list of visitors.
Happy Spring from the Welcoming Committee.

What a welcome Spring we are
having at HMP. The children and
teachers have been enjoying
beautiful days at school. It’s so
nice to see our little ones out
strolling with their friends while
our older children have fun in
the Playgarden.
HMP has several events in April. On Tuesday
April 21st we welcomed the NC History Museum
to teach our children about wind, they even
made kites. Our annual Trike-A-Thon, benefiting
St. Jude’s Research Hospital was held on
Wednesday April 22nd followed by a walking
field trip to our neighbors at Zaytoun Dental on
Friday April 24th.
We are very excited to invite everyone to our
Family Fun Night and Silent Auction on Friday
April 24th from 5:00-7:30pm. Our POP’s (Parents
of Preschoolers) committee have planned a
fun night with inflatables, face painting, Farmer
Mary and her animals, food trucks and so much
more. Step inside to Westminster Hall and place

Deacon Ministries I love spring! It is a beautiful time of year when this magnificent earth shakes
off the dull, grayness of winter and blankets itself with fresh green grass and
bright, jewel-colored flowers. The temperatures soar and warm our chilly
bones. And best of all we rejoice in our Savior’s Resurrection! Alleluia!
While we enjoy this wonderful time of year and bask in the hope and
renewal of Easter let us all remember that there are
those around us who are hurting for various reasons.
They may be grieving for a loved one, struggling
with illness, dealing with a broken heart or loss of
hope. The list of reasons people may be suffering is
probably very long, unfortunately. So while you are
giving thanks to God for this joyous season please
remember to pray for those in need.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all
comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that
we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
If you or someone you know is suffering or in need, please contact the Deacons through
the church website, the Deacon Prayer line or by filling out a blue prayer card located in
the pews. The Deacons are here for you.
