PASTORAL PONDERINGS
“HOLY WEEK”
In Biblical History today is the beginning of Holy Week. Today we celebrate the Triumphant
Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem: Monday Jesus cleansed the temple.
 Tuesday Jesus gave teachings and parables on God’s Kingdom.
 Wednesday Jesus spent a quiet day in Bethany.
 Thursday was given to preparation for the Passover and the Lord’s Supper in the
upper room. At the end of the day Jesus was betrayed and arrested.
 Friday Jesus stood trail first before the Sanhedrin and then before Pilate in a Roman
trail. Jesus was then hung on a cross between two thieves and was crucified.
 Saturday his body was put in a carved out cave tomb; and
 Sunday, Jesus rose from the Dead. TRIUMPANT AS HE SAID.
Our attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: “…who being in very nature
God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself
nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness; and found
human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even
death on a cross…...” Phil. 2:5-11

- The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the
Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna
in the highest heaven!”
Jesus Is More Than a Super Star.
On that first Palm Sunday Jesus he was looked upon by many as a superstar, one that
would come and set up an earthly reign and bring peace. All four Gospels record the
Triumphant Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Our Parish celebrates the Exposition, Adoration & Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
every First Friday of the month from 7:00PM - 5:00AM, when the Blessed Sacrament is
exposed all night. We don't have First Friday Eucharistic Adoration in April because
it's Good Friday. Our next First Friday Eucharistic Adoration will be May 01st, 2015!

ANNULMENT EVENING
An annulment Information evening is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2015-7:30PM
– Saint Henry Church, 82 West 29th St., Bayonne, NJ. A staff member of the Tribunal of
the Archdiocese will provide information about the requirements for annulments, the
petition process etc.. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end of the session.

THE ARCHDIOCESE – 2015 LENTEN REGULATIONS
The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Good Friday Fast continues until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the
“paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of Our Lord Jesus, and to prepare
ourselves to celebrate His Resurrection. All Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. On
Fast days: One full meal & one small meal is allowed. Ages 18-59, are obliged to fast.
On day of Abstinence – No Meat. Age 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
WILLS AWARENESS AND PLANNED GIVING SEMINAR
The seminar will be held in the auditorium at the Archdiocesan Center. Meeting dates
are: March 5th, April 9th, May 4th, and June 10th. Please RSVP two weeks before, by

THE PASCHAL TRIDUUM
The Paschal Triduum, often called the Easter Triduum or
simply the Triduum, begins during Holy Week, and consists of
Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter
Sunday. This includes the Great Easter Vigil, the high point of
the Triduum. The word Triduum comes from the Latin word
meaning "three days." It begins the evening of Maundy
Thursday and ends at Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. Thus
the Triduum consists of three full days which begin and end in
the evening. The Triduum technically is not part of Lent (at least liturgically), but Holy
Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday are still reckoned as part of the traditional
forty day Lenten fast. The Triduum celebrates the heart of our faith, salvation, and
redemption: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Thus, the Triduum
commemorates the Institution of the Eucharist (the "sacrament of sacraments"), the
passion, crucifixion, death of the Lord, his descent to the dead, and finally his
glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday morning. Along with the Ascension, these
important events make up the Paschal Mystery.
Thus, even though the liturgical year begins chronologically at Advent, it reaches its
culmination during the Easter Triduum, particularly at Easter, the "solemnity of
solemnities," the "Great Feast." The Catholic Catechism describes the importance of
the Triduum:
Beginning with the Easter Triduum as its source of light, the new age of the Resurrection
fills the whole liturgical year with its brilliance. Gradually, on either side of this source,
the year is transfigured by the liturgy. It really is a "year of the Lord's favor." The
economy of salvation is at work within the framework of time, but since its fulfillment in
the Passover of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the culmination of history is
anticipated "as a foretaste," and the kingdom of God enters into our time (1168).
Christians have been commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus since
Apostolic times, because his death and resurrection are at the heart of Christian
salvation. At least by the second century, Christians celebrated the Great Easter Vigil,
an event which began the night of Holy Saturday, continuing until dawn on Easter
morning. During this vigil, Christians commemorated salvation history, awaited the
return of Jesus, and celebrated the resurrection of Jesus at dawn on Easter Sunday.
It was at the vigil that catechumens, after a three year period of catechesis, were
baptized and received first communion. The Easter Vigil was the most important day
of the liturgical year. Eventually Christians expanded this celebration to a three-day
commemoration of Jesus' passion, death, and resurrection, with the Easter Vigil
being the high point of the three day commemoration. Nonetheless, over time, as the
liturgical year expanded, the Easter Vigil lost its preeminence,
although the three days celebrating the passion, death, and
resurrection of Jesus still held an important place in the
Church Year. Since the liturgical reforms of the Second
Vatican Council, the Easter Vigil and the Triduum have
regained their position of prominence in the Catholic liturgical
calendar.
