COTTEY COLLEGE — GOING PLACES
How can we ever thank you for the outstanding response to our first annual Cottey Walk held at last
year’s convention? You raised more than $7,000 to assist families who are taking prospective students
to and from Cottey, and your donations have spread even further by helping to increase the Illinois
Suite Endowment Fund. Your generosity is humbling!
This year’s Cottey walk should be even more fun, as long as it’s a lovely Friday afternoon. Several of
you made it to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “lake walk” last year, but most just used the
parking lot route at the Crowne Plaza. In an effort to make this an enjoyable walk as well as a time to
get some exercise, we will have volunteers shuttling walkers to and from the beautiful IDOT path, or
you may drive the quarter-mile distance yourself. It’s a straight shot “just down the road” from the
Crowne. The path follows the outline of an Illinois-shaped lake, then on into a wooded area and all the
way to Rochester, a small town about seven miles away! Now, you certainly don’t have to walk that
far, so just turn around whenever you wish and walk back to the starting point.
Bottled water will be available at the registration table where you will be asked to sign the Waiver and
Release of Liability Form. It may be helpful to complete your Gifts to Projects form in advance at:
http://www.peoillinois.org/members/resources/forms.php, under the treasurer’s forms. The suggested
donation is $30 per chapter/walker, but last year, many chapters gave much more! A large box will be
available at the registration table for your two forms and check, and a volunteer will be there to
answer your questions.
In case of inclement weather, an alternate indoor path will be used, even if it’s just counting steps
between various stops along your way — entrance door to the registration desk, ballroom to projects
display room, elevators to ballroom, etc. But the fellowship with sisters will be a top priority, no
matter the weather, so bring your walking shoes and let’s “go places” with Cottey! — Deborah
Bicknell, Cottey College Committee, District IV
