Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as we Continue Our Journey of Faith. 4th Sunday in Easter B-2015 My brothers and sisters in the Lord! As we dwell on the closeness of the love and care God has for us in treating us as His adopted children, we can ask ourselves how we are responding to this new and intimate relationship. Is it evident by word and example from our behavior that Christ is the cornerstone of our life or have we kept Him at a safe distance? The word of God always challenges us to declare where we stand in our faith. Drawing close to Jesus demands truly Christ-like behavior. In accepting us as His adopted children, God is calling us to live the life of Jesus, which means that we, in turn, have to be loving and caring and draw close to those we meet. There are times which we deceive ourselves by keeping people at arm’s length with obligations to nobody. Today’s Scriptures invite us to examine how great and caring is our love for friends. The task of every baptized person is to bring the attention of the community the love that the Father has for us by letting us be called God’s children. Caring for one another is shown by discreet acts of kindness like writing a note of sympathy or support, or making a phone call, e-mail or text, or just by giving an understanding look or an unexpected gift, all of which say, “I am with you always.” Caring as a good shepherd is a hidden source of sensitive communication. It offers that special hope to a friend, to continue on the road of life with a tiny flame of confidence in his/her heart. Our invitation through baptism is to have hands to help others, feet to hasten the poor and needy, eyes to see misery and want, as well as ears to hear the sighs of our friends in sorrow. In every generation, the message is Jesus calling men and women to care diligently for the intimate needs of their brothers and sisters. This is the true meaning of what a Good Shepherd really is. My brothers and sisters, the fact that we have a special place in the heart of God should instill hope in us and increase our confidence. Even when sin causes us to wander and stray, the Good Shepherd is there to come to our rescue. He brings us back, carrying us shoulder high into safety and companionship of the fold. Peace, Fr. This event impels us, as Christians, to announce this glorious Good News to the whole world. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has encouraged Christians to announce the love of Christ to everyone and the good news that death has been vanquished and the gates of Heaven are now open! Many Catholics throughout the world will be responding this Easter Season by embarking on a Great Mission to announce the Gospel to the world in the streets and public spaces. Here in the Archdiocese of Newark, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ will go out to public parks and streets to announce this Gospel. In Nutley, parishioners will be proclaiming “Christ Risen!” on five consecutive Sundays at 4:00 PM, until May 17. The location for these events will be near the Clock Tower Courtyard on Franklin Avenue between Centre and William Streets. Brothers and sisters, there is no greater privilege than to announce the love of God, Jesus Christ’s victory over death, and eternal life being offered freely to all. Everyone is invited to attend and I encourage you to pray that this mission produces much spiritual fruit. - Father Joe TEACHING THE GOOD NEWS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM (CCD) FOR MORE INFORMATION, CALL: 973-667-6018 Sunday: Grades K-5, 8:30 AM-9:45 AM Tuesday: Grades 1-6, 3:30-4:45 PM ~ Classes for Spring Garden, Lincoln and Yanticaw Schools Wednesday Evening: (all schools) Grades 7 & 8 7:00-8:30 PM Thursday: Grades 1-6; 3:30-4:45 PM ~ Classes for Belleville #5, Washington & Radcliff Schools It is registration time again for the Religious Education Program.
