MISSION STATEMENT
Holy Family Catholic Church is a spiritually and socially active parish. Rooted in the Word of God and nourished by the Eucharist, we celebrate the life of our Lord Jesus Christ by proclaiming the Good News and providing spiritual growth, support and service with love. Founded by
Italian immigrants a century ago, today our parish continues the tradition of extending a loving, caring and affirming welcome to all who join us as
we Continue Our Journey of Faith.
3rd Sunday in Easter 2015
My brothers and sisters in the Lord!
With the Season of Lent well and truly over, we are deeply immersed in the Easter Season, celebrating our Lord’s victory
over death. And yet, today’s readings focus on the necessity of repentance, conversion and the avoidance of sin. As Christians, we
must always remember that in order to share in the life of the Risen Christ, we must first share in the life of the crucified Christ.
There are no short cuts to eternal life if there is no cross to bear and no crown to bear. Death and resurrection must take place in
each of our lives. We have to die to self in order to live for God. Sin must be avoided at all costs; sin alone separates us from the
love of God and the glory He has won on our behalf.
The Gospel today tells us how Jesus opened the minds of the disciples to the understanding of the scriptures. He explained
why He had to suffer, die and rise from the dead on the third day. More importantly, they were to be His witnesses, preaching
penance to all nations for the remission of sins. As we pray this morning, we also realize that the prayers are an invitation to Jesus to
come into our lives so that our minds and hearts may be open to let in God’s Word. It is now our turn to be witnesses to the Gospel
and show forth the resurrection in our lives. The first disciples could not keep the Good News to themselves but rather hurried to
share their great joy with anyone who had ears to listen. Likewise, our relationship with Jesus requires us to communicate the Good
News by our attitudes, values and life style. The Christian message is never really ours until we have shared it with our family, close
friends and the different people we meet in life. If we are to be truly witnesses to Christ’s Gospel, then we must stop living in a halfhearted manner and show forth the resurrection in our lives. If we want to truly draw close to Christ, it implies a truly Christian
behavior and being of one mind and one heart with Him. The Risen Lord can only make an impact on the world if our words and
actions combine to reveal His power. As true stewards, we are called upon to spend our lives without reserve in His service.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank many of our parishioners who have stepped forward to aid with financial
support toward the restoration/replacement of the church roof, front steps and HVAC. Through their generosity, we have received
the following amounts for each project with less than 60 participants.
ROOF: $41,418.00
STEPS: $2,735.00
HVAC: $600.00
I am truly grateful for all the donations, which ranged from $10.00 to $10,000.00. It would be great if all of our
parishioners would consider participating with whatever their financial means allow. Then we could surely complete these projects
without taking an emergency loan from the Archdiocese.
Peace,
Fr. Joe

HOLY FAMILY CHURCH SPRING CLASSIC - "RAISE THE ROOF"
About the Event:
The roof of Holy Family Church in Nutley is in desperate need for repair. This past winter’s
snowfall has pushed the old roof to its breaking point where repairs must be made. This
golf event is to help “Raise” funds so the proceeds can go directly to help defray some of the
costly repairs to the roof of this wonderful church honoring the Holy Family. We
thank you for your generosity, Stewardship and love of Holy Family Parish.

STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE
“Jesus himself stood among them and
said to them, ‘Peace to you.’ But they
were startled and frightened.”
- Luke 24:36-37
Throughout the day we have many
opportunities to “see the face of Jesus” in
others and provide some “peace” in their
lives. Just because the person is a
stranger, maybe looks different than us or is someone we don’t
particularly care for doesn’t let us off the hook.

The Great Mission
Dear Parishioners,
During this Easter season we celebrate the
resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This
event impels us, as Christians, to announce this
glorious Good News to the whole world. Our
Holy Father, Pope Francis, has encouraged
Christians to announce the love of Christ to
everyone and the good news that death has
been vanquished and the gates of Heaven are
now open! Many Catholics throughout the
world will be responding this Easter Season by
embarking on a Great Mission to announce the Gospel to the
world in the streets and public spaces. Here in the Archdiocese
of Newark, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ will go
out to public parks and streets to announce this Gospel. In
Nutley, parishioners will be proclaiming “Christ Risen!” on
five consecutive Sundays at 4:00 PM, beginning April 19 and
ending on May 17. The location for these events will be near
the Clock Tower Courtyard on Franklin Avenue between
Centre and William Streets. Brothers and sisters, there is no
greater privilege than to announce the love of God, Jesus
Christ’s victory over death, and eternal life being offered freely
to all. Everyone is invited to attend and I encourage you to pray
that this mission produces much spiritual fruit.
- Father Joe
