May 5 (Tues.)
is sponsoring a talk on Dynamic Mobility at
7:00 pm in the Parish Life Center. The
speaker will be Dianne Pierson, who has
been in health care for nearly 30 years with
extensive rehab experience in the home.
She understands the needs of the elderly
and their caregivers to make the quality of life the
best possible. By finding the daily activities that can
be accomplished to make this happen, the entire family will have less stress and all will have a sense of
renewal in the home. Dynamic Mobility is about
living the most complete, most independent life possible for those who are beginning to have some difficulties with home activities and mobility. Refreshments will be served.

Our Lady of Fatima
Healing Service & Candlelight Procession
Wednesday, May 13 - 7pm
Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville
From the Library…
The DVD Religious Mysteries contains
three 50-minute programs. It helps if you
are a bit familiar with the subjects before
viewing, as each program is presented more as a
mystery than in a straight-forward factual manner.
Children of the Prophecy gives the story (and exceptional pictures) of the three children of Fatima. The
Road to Compostela joins walkers on their pilgrimage across northern Spain to the burial site of St.
James. The Houses of the V irgin Mary shows her
house in Ephesus plus the Jerusalem house in which
she was born, now moved (supposedly by angels) to
Loreto, Italy.
Join us as we honor Our Blessed Mother and ask her
intercession for the healing of our bodies and souls.
A replica of the original miraculous Grotto in
Lourdes, France was dedicated here at the Shrine in
Hanceville in 2008 (the 150th Anniversary of the
apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette). A stone
from the original Grotto in France has been mounted in the Shrine Grotto for the veneration of the
faithful. The Grotto is handicap accessible and
wheelchairs are available, if needed. A plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who make a pilgrimage to the Lourdes Grotto here by fulfilling the
usual norms and conditions.

Our Holy Spirit Haiti Mission continues to grow. Because of the support of our church, 50 children are
housed and fed in a large and beautiful orphanage. These same children are educated at a school close by.
Close to 20 water purification systems have been installed throughout Haiti by our various teams. Drinking
clean water has significantly decreased many medical issues.
As with most missions, the needs of the Haitians are always there. We have met ten farming families who live
in a mountainous region. They have had a hard time being successful with their crops this year due to the extreme drought. Although medicine, clothes and other goods were brought to them, we learned that the education of their children was, by far, their biggest concern. There are 35 children, ranging in grade level from elementary to high school.
Our mission has been able to help support these students through some generous private donations, but we’re
short $11,000. If you feel you would like to support these families, please consider making a donation. 100%
of your money goes toward their education.
Donations can be made to Holy Spirit Haiti Mission and placed in our offertory baskets, mailed to our church,
or given directly to Bob McCoy, our mission lead. (Please write “Ten Families” in the memo).
We thank you for your loving and continued support of so many Haitian children!
We really are making a difference!

great CD’s, Books and Booklets to offer you at a very lost cost. The CD’s are approximately one hour in length. Below are some featured CD’s, Books, and Booklets that come highly recommended:
Book: “Ordinary Lives Extraordinary Mission.” There is only one solution to the problems we face… saints! Becoming a saint is a choice, and we
must begin choosing the saint within each of us. We have forgotten our mission to become saints and forgotten our story as Catholics. This book is a five
step guide to choosing the saint within you. The world doesn’t need another
John Paul II or Mother Teresa. The world needs you. Your ordinary life has
an extraordinary purpose.$4.00
Book: “Crossing the Tiber.” This book is an exhilar ating conver sion
story of a devout Baptist who relates how he overcame his hostility to the
Catholic Church by a combination of serious Bible study and vast research of the writings of the early Church Fathers. In addition to a moving
account of their conversion that caused Ray and his wife to “cross the Tiber” to Rome, he offers an in-depth treatment of Baptism and the Eucharist in Scripture and the ancient Church. $4.00
Book: “Made for More.” While ever ything you do – and every decision
you make – is aimed at making you happy, you may step back from time
to time and ask yourself, “Why am I here?” and “Is there a deeper meaning to life?” To find these answers, you need go beyond the distractions of
the world and be open to discovering your true purpose and self-potential.
If you find your true purpose, you’ll discover that you really are “made
for more” than what our culture has to offer. $4.00
Book: “Jesus Shock.” You can’t ignore J esus, because he changed
things. He is the single greatest agent of change in human history. He made
the lame walk, taught the simple, set captives free, gave sight to the blind,
fed the hungry, healed the sick, comforted the afflicted, afflicted the comfortable, and in all of these, captured the imagination of every generation.
But who is Jesus today? Who is Jesus to you? Get ready to discover Jesus
like you have never known him. Peter Kreeft is one of the greatest Catholic
Apologists today. You will truly enjoy this book!

CD “In God We Trust” Dur ing these challenging times there is a critical need to focus on defending our religious liberty as stated in the First
Amendment of the United States Constitution. In these highly informative
presentations, Bishop David Malloy and Monsignor Eric Barr show us that
protection of religious freedom is fundamental for Catholics, as well as for
people of all faiths.
CD “I’m Not Being Fed” J eff Cavins explores and responds to some of
the reasons why so many people have left the Catholic Church for evangelical Christianity. As he presents the story of his return to Catholicism,
Cavins also builds a case for why the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Christ.
CD “For Love and Marriage” J ohnnette Benkovic shares her conver sion back to Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church and the struggles that
came when her husband didn't share her faith. She explains how the Lord
blessed her in unexpected ways and, through the promptings of His Holy
Spirit, showed her how she could better love her spouse through it all.
Booklet “Augustine of Hippo” St Augustine was a bishop, is a father of
the Church and a Doctor of the Church, but above all is a man with an extraordinary story to tell. This booklet uses the famous Confessions of St Augustine to recount the wonderful journey from a life of sin and error to a life
lived for Christ and his fellow Christians. Augustine’s spiritual insights are as
fresh and valuable today as when they were written 1600 years ago.
Booklet “Padre Pio” Canonized on the 16th J une 2002, Saint Pio of
Pietrelcina, better known as Padre Pio, had already become one of the saints
whose intercession is most called upon, often with amazing effect. Padre Pio
received the stigmata, worked many miracles and is said to have often bilocated. Yet as Jim Gallagher beautifully recounts, it was for his holiness as a priest
and selfless ministry in the confessional that Padre Pio will ever be remembered among the saints.
We have much, much more to offer you! Fall in love with your Catholic Faith
with Lighthouse Catholic Books, Booklets and CDs!

EASTER
Fruit of the womb
Prepositions are fascinating parts of speech:
small, seemingly trivial until one looks closely. When Jesus uses the metaphor of a grapevine to illustrate our relationship to him and to God, he says, “Remain
in me.” To be “in” is not to be “on”! We are not random
branches grafted onto the vine. We’ve been chosen to
bear fruit. We have the vine’s very sap, its inner life, its
juices, as Gerard Manley Hopkins says of spring: “What is
all this juice and all this joy?” We belong there, in Christ.
We are pruned. We abide. We remain. We ripen. We
bear.
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 9:26-31; 1 John 3:18-24;
John 15:1-8 (53). “Remain in me, as I remain in
you.”
MONDAY, M AY 4
EASTER WEEKDAY
At the heart of it all
“Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life,”
says the Catholic Catechism. “He has loved us all with a
human heart.” Take a moment to let that teaching sink in:
Jesus knew you long before you were made aware of
your own existence. That alone is all you need to understand your life’s purpose. You were, are, and will continue
to be in the mind and heart of Jesus, who is love itself.
What joy there is in embracing that love!
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 14:5-18; John 14:21-26
(285). “Whoever has my commandments and
observes them is the one who loves me.”
TUESDAY, M AY 5
EASTER WEEKDAY
Cling to the love and let go of the fear
If (or when) you feel down, confused and especially
afraid, wondering—in spite of the evidence!—whether
God loves you, go to John’s gospel and read what Jesus
wanted his friends to hold onto (chapters 13-15). Jesus
almost pleads with his intimates to realize how much he
loves them and how they/we and he will not be separated,
in spite of what is about to happen to him. Do little pockets of fear pop up in your day, moments of dismay? Hold
on to “Be not afraid. Trust in God and trust in me.” Cling
to that love Jesus has for you, but let go of the fear. Relax. Be at peace. God is in control.
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 14:19-28; John 14:2731a (286). “I am going away and I will come back
to you.”
WEDNESDAY, M AY 6
EASTER WEEKDAY
Why wine?
In the ancient Near East wine was essential for sustenance; it was a symbol of life and celebration. Perhaps
that is why wine plays a key role in Jesus’ first public miracle, where he changed water into wine at the wedding at
Cana, and in the Last Supper, when he reveals who he is
to his disciples. Through his death and Resurrection, Jesus becomes the symbol of life and celebration for all of
us. He is the fruit of the vine poured out for us. Drink
deeply.
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 15:1-6; John 15:1-8
(287). “I am the true vine, and my Father is the
vine grower.”
THURSDAY, M AY 7
EASTER WEEKDAY
Be careful using “us and them”
The phrase “us and them” separates humanity into teams
of rivals. But what happens when those teams change
sides? When Saint Paul, apostle to the Gentiles, talks
about “us,” he means his Jewish brothers and sisters. For
Paul, “them” refers to non-Jewish followers of Jesus—
which curiously now means, mostly, “us.” Today the Jewish community celebrates the mystical side of faith on the
feast of Lag B’Omer, the revelation of divine secrets to a
second-century rabbi. Mysticism reminds us all that
heaven’s view of history is quite fuller than ours. Isn’t it
time to build more bridges, and to see as God sees?
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 15:7-21; John 15:9-11
(288). “God made no distinction between us and
[Gentiles], for by faith he purified their hearts.”
FRIDAY, M AY 8
EASTER WEEKDAY
A friendship worth fighting for
Jesus wants to be your friend. But accept the invitation at
your own risk, because that is what it requires: Risking all
you have, all you are, your very life for his sake. That
doesn’t exactly conjure a romantic image of hanging out
with Jesus watching a ballgame. In fact, true friendship is
complicated. As a friend of Jesus, you will find yourself
angry and frustrated at what is being asked of you. But,
as renowned theologian Martin Marty assures us in
Friendship, his little treasure of a book on this sacred relationship, “For friends, never coming into conflict is probably a sign of apathy; people who care deeply about anything in the world are going to disagree.” So go ahead,
accept Jesus’ invitation of friendship, and get ready for
the fights, fun, and unconditional love that the best of
friendships bring.
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 15:22-31; John 15:12-17
(289). “I have called you friends, because I have
told you everything I have heard from my Father.”
SATURDAY, M AY 9
EASTER WEEKDAY
Already taken care of. Thank God.
The events of Jesus’ life, death, and Resurrection have
brought redemption, healing, and wholeness, as we declare when we pray the words, “We adore you, O Christ,
and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have
redeemed the world.” There is no longer separation between the so-called “secular” world and the reign of God.
With Christ, we participate in the life welling up within us
and within the world. Next time you are waiting in traffic,
wrangling with a tough business decision, or scrolling
through your newsfeed, be on the lookout for Christ, who
has already redeemed even the challenging situations we
have yet to resolve!
TODAY’S READINGS: Acts 16:1-10; John 15:18-21
(290). “God had called us to proclaim the Good
News.”
