Alpine
Alternative/Electro/Pop
Meet ALPINE. Phoebe Baker (vocals), Lou James (vocals), Timothy Royall (keys), Phil Tucker (Drums),
Ryan Lamb (Bass) and Christian O’Brien (Guitar).
Fusing synths with honeyed harmonies, hypnotic rhythms and bright beats, Alpine have been likened
to Phoenix, Lykke Li and The xx and have toured with The Naked and Famous, Cloud Control, Sia,
The Jezabels and Sparkadia. Their recent headline tour, “Hands Across Australia,” sold out and they
recently opened main-stage at Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival and Southbound.
In late 2010 Alpine signed with Winterman & Goldstein Management (Empire Of The Sun, Lanie Lane,
The Vines, Jet, The Sleepy Jackson). 2011 saw the release of their debut EP Zurich which featured the
singles Villages (no. 2 most played on JJJ radio) and Heartlove (top 10 of most played on JJJ) and had
fans and critics alike clamoring for more.
ALPINE are back with their new single HANDS which is already on high rotation at Triple J, the first cut from their forthcoming debut
album due out in early 2012.
2012 is set to be a BIG YEAR. Aren’t you glad we introduced you?

Rock/Pop/Indie
Blending rock, pop, synth, and punk into his self-described “schizo pop,” Clockwise’s raucous live shows
and relentless charisma have established him as one of Los Angeles’s must-see live acts.
After the release of his successful debut album Classic FM in Australia in 2006, he moved to the States
in 2008 and quickly made his mark by releasing two EPs, Are You Well? and The Casanova. There was
much anticipation for his US debut LP, The Socialite. In 2010, Clockwise joined Strokes front man Julian
Casablancas on his first solo tour.
In support of The Socialite, Clockwise toured the east and west coasts, selling out famed music haunts
such as The El Rey, Troubadour, NYC’s Piano’s, Brooklyn’s Union Hall; performed for his third consecutive
year at SXSW; opened for INXS at The Pearl in Las Vegas; and played to 5000 people at the Santa Monica
Pier’s Twilight Concert Series with Missy Higgins.
Andy’s brand new album War Stories was recorded in Australia over the summer. He’ll release the record with shows in LA
in February, followed by a stint at Playground Weekender in Australia. Next up, he’ll head to Texas for SXSW and then on to the
Canadian Music Festival.

Anna Lunoe
Since 2006, Anna Lunoe has been leaving a trail of exhausted and ecstatic crowds wherever she goes.
Her first original production, a disco-inspired collaboration with Wax Motif called Love Ting reached
#12 on the national independent radio charts. Her second darker banger, Voodoo (produced alongside
LA’s Them Jeans) is a sign of very exciting things to come.
In 2011, Anna performed across Australia on the Big Day Out tour, completed a month long USA club
tour, wowed Japan for MTV, Dj’d (and hosted!) Parklife main stage and mixed her 3rd Ministry of Sound
Compilation which was followed by a national tour. She was also chosen as the Australian Smirnoff
ambassador and returned to Splendour In The Grass with her all-girl DJ crew Hoops.
Anna Lunoe has played at parties throughout Asia, Europe and the U.S: Flashing Lights in NYC, Mad
Decent & Dim Mak joints in LA, Raves in Kansas City and all the way across the Atlantic at Ed Banger soirees in Paris, Vice shows
through the UK, Razzamatazz in Spain and Rust in Copenhagen. When she’s not playing at world renowned parties or festivals, Anna
can be found behind the decks at international catwalks for Chanel, Fendi, Prada, Louis Vuiton and Hugo Boss.

Big Scary
12.00pm
Alternative
Big Scary are a boy/girl two-piece from Melbourne, Australia. Joanna chills at the kit, occasionally chiming
in with some backing vocals, whilst lead singer Tom swaps between electric guitar and keys, in turn
moulding the on-stage genres from grunge to pop to moody ballads.
It’s this eclecticism that has allowed Big Scary to support bands from Midlake to Florence & The Machine
and they’d be just as comfortable with Led Zepellin too. Releasing a compilation of four seasonallythemed EPs titled The Big Scary Four Seasons in late 2010 (with tracks Thinking About You featuring
on Grey’s Anatomy and Autumn used for an AT&T advertising campaign), Big Scary have recently
released their debut album Vacation in Aus/NZ. It was nominated for Triple J Australian Album of the
Year and was voted the eighth Best Album of 2011 by Triple J music director Richard Kingsmill (one of only two Australian bands
and certainly the only unsigned band to get on the list). 2012 is set to see them release their genre defying debut album Vacation
worldwide.

Bleeding Knees Club
Garage Punk
Rip-roaring, party-hardy duo Jordan Malane and Alex Wall play irrepressible garage-pop ‘n’ surfpunk that burst out of Australia’s Gold Coast in 2010. The super-catchy tunes on their debut EP
Virginity landed them tours with Wavves, Lightspeed Champion and a slot at the Big Day Out.
In May 2011, Bleeding Knees Club temporarily relocated to the UK where they shared stages
with Black Lips, Cults, Toro y Moi, Cerebral Ballzy and many more. They also scored spots on
tastemaker festivals The Great Escape in Brighton and Liverpool Sound City.
Not long after, Jordan and Alex high-tailed it to New York City, to record their forthcoming debut album with producer Dev Hynes
(from Lightspeed Champion and Blood Orange).
After inking a deal with LA-Based Label IAMSOUND (Florence & The Machine, Active Child), BKC released the Teenage Girls single
worldwide, the first cut off their much anticipated album Nothing To Do. The record is a set of raw ‘n’ urgent super-fun songs about
girls, getting high, and sticking it to The Man.
Bleeding Knees Club will race back to the UK for some album release shows, before heading to the USA for further club dates plus
appearances at SXSW. So join the Club, there’s nothing else to do.

An exhilarating blend of fluid rhymes, banging beats, beat boxing, impromptu freestyling and
seamless turntablism, Bliss N Eso are one of the best live acts in the country.
Their first ARIA nomination for Best Urban Release was in late 2006, for their second album Day of
the Dog.
In 2007 they travelled to North America and played sold out shows across the US and Canada.
Afterwards, the lads embarked on the Make Poverty History Zero Seven road trip tour and visited
some of the poorest regions in South Africa to complete the track and video clip for their next
album’s first single, Bullet and a Target.
In 2008, their Flying Colours LP became the highest selling local hip-hop album of the year and took out an ARIA Award for Best
Urban Release. The official album tour sold out every one of its 24 legs.
Their fourth studio album, Running on Air, debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart, ending Eminem’s six week run in top spot,
reaching platinum status. Shortly afterwards, Bliss N Eso embarked on their sold-out Down by the River Australian tour that saw
them play to 50,000+ fans across the country, making the tour the highest selling local hip-hop tour of all time.

Bonfire Nights
Psych-pop/Ambient/Rock/Indie
Bonfire Nights’ make swirling moody psych-pop: a clash of surf and synth, shoe-gaze with
purple haze, Virginia Plain meets Jesus & Mary Chain.
With mantra-like drones, shaking bones and sweet candy overtones, Bonfire Nights like to blur
the boundaries. Formed by Steve, Ruth and Nicole in 2010, the band split their time between
London and their hometown of Brisbane, Australia.
Adopting a minimalist ethos, the band recorded their first self-titled EP on a four-track
analogue tape machine. While the approach was modest, the outcome was an eclectic mix,
ranging from the menacing Own Worst Enemy to the sparse and dreamy fuzz of Leave
Yourself Open.
The EP has received early kudos from Australian, Japanese, South African and British Radio. The video clip for single Own Worst
Enemy also received rotation on Rage - the primary Australian music television program. The track was also voted into the ‘Hot 100’
tracks of 2010 by Australian radio station 4ZzZ FM.
After a highly successful UK tour supporting Scottish indie rockers Sons & Daughters, the band is again looking to foreign shores as
they plan tour dates to coincide with their official SXSW 2012 showcase.

Rockhampton’s favourite sons Busby Marou have had a huge year. They are the first band to be
signed to Warner Music Australia’s indie label Footstomp Records and recently released their debut
self-titled album. The emotive first single Biding My Time is steadily finding its way into the Australian
consciousness.
Tom Busby’s cheeky stage presence and Jeremy Marou’s freakish musical ability on all instruments
combine to deliver a distinctly Australian way of sharing stories. Their unique song writing brings
cracking harmonies, breathtaking musicianship and a mutual musical intuition that will leave you
wanting more.
Busby Marou’s self-titled debut album reached #24 on the ARIA album charts and #5 on the Australian artist charts. The boys are
also making their presence felt with strong showings in the nominations at the AIR, Deadly and Queensland Music Awards.
After a stunning response from fans and media, Busby Marou have also experienced good fortune in the live arena, selling out their
first ever headline tour and scoring support slots with Birds Of Tokyo, KD Lang, Dolly Parton and Pete Murray.
Tom and Jeremy are committed to taking their songs and stories to the far corners of the globe over the next year. Make sure you
come and say G’Day.

Cassian
House/Nu Disco
Performing in clubs from LA to Rome, Warsaw to Mallorca and Vancouver to Singapore, Cassian is quickly
becoming one of Australia’s busiest exports. He’s also committed down under with a 16 date tour booked
for the launch of the second Cassian EP, I Like What You’re Doing, including DJ sets at Splendour in the
Grass, Stereosonic, Creamfields and The Big Day Out in early 2012.
The title track from the EP is still receiving weekly spins on Australian national radio station Triple J nearly
a year after its release. Getting High, also on the EP, has been the No.1 track on Bang Gang 12s Beatport
page since its release.
In 2011 Cassian remixed renowned artists like PNAU, The Rapture, Bag Raiders, Gigamesh, Citizens!
and Miami Horror (who he collaborated with for a joint remix). In 2012, he’ll release the Country Club
collaboration with fellow Aussie youngster Shazam (their first remix has already received support from
the likes of A-Trak & Yolanda Be Cool). Their debut four track EP was hastily signed to Jaymo & Andy George’s imprint Moda.
2012 will see Cassian give out global high fives with dates booked throughout North America (including a 3 date mini tour supporting
Aeroplane and performances at SXSW & WMC), Australia, Asia and Europe.

Electronic/Soul
Shrouded in secrecy, hidden behind an alias and disguised by a beard, Chet Faker enjoys the mystery.
Hailing from the tight-knit disco and house music scene in Melbourne, Australia and taking elements from
an acoustic past, Chet Faker has carved out a unique style that fuses personal stories of love and loss
with an electronica soul that reaches far beyond his homeland.
Chet quickly came to everyone’s attention when his cover of ‘No Diggity’ hit #1 on the worldwide indie
music aggregator, Hype Machine. But far from rushing into the limelight, Chet built on the popularity of
‘No Diggity’ through a series of tracks released online, creating an insatiable hunger from fans for more
from this part jazz, part soul and part electronic artist.
Now Chet Faker is poised on the next phase of his development. He is supporting Toro y Moi and Washed
Out in 2012, has already sold out shows in Melbourne and Sydney and is releasing his EP, Thinking in
Textures in March. He also has a 7” coming out through Chess Club Records (Local Natives, Mumford &
Sons) in the UK in March. Expect to hear a lot from Chet Faker in 2012.

Dead Letter Circus
Alternative/Active Rock
Dead Letter Circus is unlike any rock band to emerge in years.
Part of the beauty of the soaring, sing-a-long choruses, chiming atmospherics and delay
soaked tones of Dead Letter Circus is their escape from easy classification via labels or scenes.
But with their debut album ricocheting around the globe, the message is clear – it’s music that
resonates.
Debut album This is the Warning hit #2 on the ARIA charts and #1 on iTunes and spawned six
radio singles. Crossover hits One Step and Cage were added to major radio networks and the
band’s tracks and videos got airplay across the UK, USA and Australia, leading to sold out shows
and huge stadium performances with Muse and Linkin Park.
2011 saw the band light up the Big Day Out outdoor mega-festival and score two songs in the world-famous Triple J Hottest 100 plus
a nod in the Hottest Australian Albums of All Time. Two US tours, sold out London shows and by year’s end, Red Bull voted DLC in
their Top 11 Rock Acts, US radio stations jumped on One Step and Total Guitar UK ranked them in their Albums of the Year. 2012
brings more international touring as DLC prepare album number two…

DZ Deathrays are an Australian indie/thrash/punk 2-piece that have been creating a stir on the
international scene. They graced the stage of SXSW in 2011 and are returning with a bucket load
of accolades. They were recently placed at #4 in NME’s Top 20 Most Exciting Bands of 2012,
after securing spots in the Top 10 Bands of The Great Escape 2011 (UK) from both NME and Q
Magazine. Zane Lowe of BBC1 gave them ‘Next Hype’ and their new single No Sleep received
a world premier on the station with Huw Stephens. The single is the first off their forthcoming
album, due for release mid-2012. It will also be available on an EP due for release on March 6th

Electric Jellyfish
Experimental/Post-Punk
A three-piece from Melbourne, Australia consisting of Michael Beach (guitars and vocals),
Adam Camilleri (bass and percussion) and Peter Warden (drums, loops and electronics),
Electric Jellyfish tells stories of existential dread with a bluesy swagger. Their songs can
be sparse, driving, heavy and wild, with an emotional energy that hangs ponderously and
precariously in the balance between calm and terror. Imagine The Jesus Lizard with Crazy
Horse playing soundtracks for the darker works for Cormac McCarthy through bleeding
amps—a grunged-out blend of gothic folk and blues.
They’re also not afraid to experiment and produce some of their most compelling work when
they do. Whether it’s a well-placed splash of acid-fried guitar noise on one of their sonic
canvases, or giving the avant-rock treatment to extended improvisational sound collages reminiscent of CAN or Sunburned Hand
of the Man, Electric Jellyfish shift with ease between being rockers who know how to experiment and experimenters who know how
to rock.
Electric Jellyfish has toured both Australia and the US extensively since 2007 and the SXSW shows will be part of a tour featuring
supports for Feedtime, Spectre Folk, Hank IV, Carlton Melton and more. The new release Trouble Coming Down will be available as
a limited edition cassette through Twin Lakes Records.

Folk Pop
20 year old Emma Louise from Cairns in Far North Queensland burst onto the scene in 2011 with her
debut EP Full Hearts And Empty Rooms. The EP charted at number 1 on the AIR independent charts
for 26 weeks and she won the best new independent breakthrough artist at the JIMAS. She won pop
song of the year, folk song of the year and song of the year at the QMAs. She scored major national
supports in Australia with Boy and Bear and Josh Pyke and slew of festivals including Falls, Southbound,
BIGSOUND, Gorgeous, Brisbane Festival and Sydney Festival. She then went on to headline her own
sold out national Australian tour. A big part of her story is her YouTube channel which Emma Louise
regularly uploads original songs as they are just written played straight to camera and capturing her
talent and sincerity.
Internationally attention has come fast. She signed a licensing deal for her EP in The Netherlands where single Jungle charted in
the airplay and itunes singles charts. This lead to her signing a deal with B1M1/Universal Germany for Continental Europe. Her songs
received syncs in the US on Greys Anatomy, Revenge and MTVs Awkward.
Emma Louise will be making her debut public performance in the US in March.

Flight Facilities
Trinidad? Tobago? Sydney? Antarctica? It doesn’t matter where they’re from. They’re
here. And it’s about time. Flight Facilities have beat about the bush and the globe for
long enough. “Why not us?” the listeners said. Was it a visa issue? Was it because the
‘Antarctican’ passports were incredibly hard to obtain? Or was it because they didn’t realise
the listeners were actually saying “Why not U.S?” Reading skills aside, here’s what we do
know: The duo has already released official remixes for the likes of Holy Ghost!, Cut Copy,
Bag Raiders, The C90s, James Curd, The Lowbrows, Sneaky Sound System & Toecutter.
Their first single, “Crave You” featuring Giselle, has notched many achievements from an
inclusion in an Aeroplane bootleg mix, a nomination at the Denmark Dance Music Awards,
a SMAC Award nomination, a tip of the hat from Perez Hilton and placing No.19 in the world
biggest music poll, Triple Js Hottest 100 (1.3 Million votes cast). Followed by the sophomore single, “Foreign Language” featuring Jess
Higgs, Flight Facilities gained support from some of the finest in the world - plays from Jamie Jones, Art Department, Spins by BBCs
Annie Mac, Jaymo & Andy, Fearne Cotton, and more.
Flight Facilities will be touring North & South America in March & April with stops in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, the United States,
Dominican Republic, and Mexico.

With her uniquely warm, husky and sometimes mournful voice, Grace Woodroofe is about to make

Husky
Indie/Folk
“George Orwell said that writing should be transparent – like a clear window pane,” says
Husky Gawenda, frontman of four-piece band Husky from Melbourne, Australia. Gawenda
feels the same way about music. “You shouldn’t notice the music or the art of it; you’re just
transported to another place.” Husky the band includes folk-inspired Husky Gawenda on
vocals and guitar, Gideon Preiss on vocals and keys, Evan Tweedie on vocals and bass, and
Luke Collins on drums and percussion. Even though they have varied musical backgrounds,
a love for classic pop (Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, The Doors and The Beach Boys), rich
harmonies and artful songwriting is the common thread that draws them together.
2012 is Husky’s year - winning hearts with every sold-out show around Australia in 2011
and supporting world-class acts including Devandra Banhart, Kimbra, Gotye, Laura Marling and Hall & Oates. Husky will release their
debut album Forever So in Europe and North America through Sub Pop in April 2012, making them the first-ever Australian band to

Experimental electronic pop
With his inspirations ranging from underground hip-hop head Madlib to the ultra-famous group the
Beach Boys, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist Jonti creates electronica-based music that
could be described as experimental beat symphonies.
Born in South Africa, Jonti launched his career after moving to Australia, spending countless hours
studying records like they were books. Processing each song became Jonti’s music school, testing his
theories on a four track recorder.
Despite coming across as a relatively new artist, Jonti has worked with the likes of Mark Ronson,
Santigold, Sean Lennon and The Dap-Kings, as well as being championed by Gotye, Questlove, Jamie
Woon, The Avalanches, and Tyler the Creator.
However for his debut album Twirligig, Jonti went the opposite route, doing everything himself, start
to finish. After getting the record mastered it landed up the hands of Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf, who knew
instantly that Jonti was something special. Becoming the first Australian artist to sign with Stones Throw, Jonti released his debut
album Twirligig to critical acclaim and has followed it up with a number of collaborative tracks with Hodgy Beats, The Stepkids and
Jon Wayne. Not one to sit around, Jonti will be releasing his sophomore album Tokorats in late 2012.

Jordie Lane
Americana/Alt-Country
“Chanelling Parsons, Springsteen and Van Zandt”, Jordie Lane is at once the leading light of Australia’s
alt-country scene and a rising star of Americana music worldwide.
Lane first made his mark when his 2006 EP Lover’s Ride struck a chord with listeners and critics.
Recorded in his back shed for $132.50, the album kick started a career that had been building since Lane
started his first band at age eight.
The ride since has included two solo albums, a band release with the Fireside Bellows, supports for
The Moody Blues, Old Crow Medicine Show, Neko Case, Cat Power, Loudon Wainwright III and Gotye,
sold-out national tours, major festival and television appearances, inclusion on Triple J’s popular ‘Like
A Version’ compilation and a nomination for ‘Best Blues & Roots Album’ at the Australian Independent
Music Awards.
Rolling Stone Magazine said Lane’s debut LP Sleeping Patterns, “may well come to be regarded as the
most assured ever by a local artists,” and Rhythms Magazine have described Lane as, “one of this country’s brightest new music
stars.”
In March, Jordie Lane returns to the US to perform at South-by-South West to continue pre-production work with Grammy Award

Kimbra
Neo-Soul/Pop/Alternative
Maybe you’ve heard her hit singles Cameo Lover and Settle Down, that won her first place in the
Pop Category of International Songwriting Competition. Perhaps you’re one of the 6,000,000+
total viewers of her YouTube videos. The name may ring a bell from any one of her electric live
shows at Splendour in the Grass, Parklife and Homebake. Or maybe it’s the fact that she won the
ARIA AWARD for 2011 BEST FEMALE ARTIST.
Her vocals contributed to Miami Horror’s Look To You hit. However it was her collaboration with
Gotye on Somebody That I Use to Know that may be most familiar. It was the longest running
Australian No 1 since Savage Garden’s Truly, Madly, Deeply in 1997. The alluring duet also took out
5 ARIA Awards including Single of the Year, Best Pop Release for 2011, Best Video, Producer of the
Year and Engineer of the Year Artisan Awards.
The point is: if you don’t already know Kimbra by name, you soon will.
Her debut self-produced album, Vows has been certified Gold in Australia & New Zealand. Having already dazzled audiences with
sell-out shows across the country, Kimbra is now recording with iconic producer Mike Elizondo. The pair is set to unleash Vows in the
USA in March 2012 through Warner Bros Records.

Please meet the beguiling Ms. Lanie Lane. Adding sass to the smoky, sultry sounds of a bygone era, Lanie
Lane is an undeniable talent who draws on the past and plants it very firmly in the here and now. Imbued
with the spirit of Muddy Waters and channelling the grit of Billie Holiday, Lanie Lane wraps the sounds of
a golden age around a voice that is as rich and warm as it is sweet.
Her debut album To The Horses debuted at #12 on the Australian national album chart upon release. It
saw her complete two US and UK tours where she was featured as a ‘First Sight” artist in The Guardian.
She’s played to packed houses at major Australian festivals and toured with the likes of Justin Townes
Earle, Fitz and the Tantrums and Brian Setzer, in addition to her own sold out national tours in her home
country.
She also found time to accept an invitation from the one-and only Jack White to record Ain’t Hungry and
My Man in his Nashville studio. The tracks were then released on White’s own Third Man Records on 7”

Lowrider
Soul/Funk
Lowrider are undoubtedly one of the most critically acclaimed acts to emerge from
Australia over the past decade. With no gimmicks, special effects or record labels, this
band has two lauded albums and has played hundreds of live shows.
With smooth, effortless vocals juxtaposed with an honest, gritty ensemble of beats, bass
and keys, Lowrider create an immaculate fusion of soul, funk and contemporary pop
music which truly transcends time.
Mid last decade, the foursome organically created a distinct sound, drawing influence
from the likes of icons Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield through to
modern contemporaries John Legend, Portishead and Erykah Badu.
In 2008 the release of Diamond Amongst the Thieves saw the band score coveted support slots on national tours for Alicia Keys,
Lupe Fiasco and John Legend.
Their 2010 LP, Round the World, was mixed by Grammy Award-winner Jason Goldstein (The Roots, Mary J Blige, Beyonce). The
album garnered their first ARIA nomination and saw them land spots on the national Big Day Out, Bluesfest and Pyramid Rock
festivals.
Lowrider will begin this year with a whirlwind tour of the US (including appearances at SXSW) before putting the finishing touches on
their highly anticipated third studio album.

“Tuesday, March 15, 2011: Somewhere above the Southern United States, en route to Austin, Texas.
Over the next five days, I’ll hear dozens of bands from all over the world perform at theatres, nightclubs,
restaurants, galleries, beer gardens, parking lots, rooftops, pretty much anywhere a stage can be set up.
Some will be artists I know and love; some will be musicians I’ve never heard before. Some will intrigue
me, some will surprise me, some will repel me, some will make me want to hear more.”
“There’s only one thing I know for sure: nothing I hear can possibly measure up to Dear Hamlyn, the
debut album by an Australian band who call themselves Luluc.”
These words open an article by Peter Blackstock, co-founder/co-editor of No Depression magazine and
editor of the official SXSW history and 2011 SXSW Scrapbook. Within a week of first hearing Luluc’s debut
album Dear Hamlyn, Peter flew to New York City to see this emerging band perform.
Luluc have toured with the Fleet Foxes, Jose Gonzales and Lucinda Williams. Their music has featured
on the TV series Grey’s Anatomy. Legendary producer Joe Boyd recently discovered their album and
invited them to tour in his sold out Nick Drake tribute concert series Way to Blue.

Matt Corby
Folk/Soul
Matt Corby has certainly carved a unique path for someone that started his career aged 16 on a reality
TV talent show in 2007. In 2009, he independently released his debut EP ‘Song For...’ before relocating
to London and signing with renowned UK indie label Communion after capturing the attention of the
label’s owner; Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons fame.
Still only in his early 20s, Matt Corby’s songs and vocals elicit a sensation that is nothing short of
captivating. Having previously been compared to legendary artists such as Nick Drake and Jeff
Buckley, Matt’s songs continue to deliver a uniqueness and maturity well beyond his years while his live
performances have become renowned for bringing large audiences to a complete stand still.
After recording with Ian Grimble (The Libertines, Seasick Steve) and releasing his hauntingly beautiful
EP, Transition To Colour in late 2010, Matt has been busy engaging audiences with his live shows. After
spending the last few months writing, Matt spent most of September 2011 recording his soon to be
released EP, Into The Flame, with producer Tim Carr (Ernest Ellis, Jonathan Boulet).

Indie/Rock
Oh Mercy, headed by songwriter Alexander Gow, is a young indie rock band with real talent.
Their new album, Great Barrier Grief, recorded by Mitchel Froom (Crowded House, Elvis
Costello) debuted at number 13 on the Australian ARIA album chart and was recently
nominated for two ARIA Awards.
Timeless in feel, Great Barrier Grief is a confident, purposeful album with the occasional
bird noise thrown in. The album was featured on Triple J radio Australia, 3fm in The
Netherlands and added to over 100 US College radio stations while the bizarrely subtle
video clip for the single Stay, Please Stay, quickly surpassed 200,000 plays on YouTube.
Oh Mercy have toured consistently since 2009, selling out venues, playing Splendour in
the Grass, Laneway and the Big Day Out as well as supporting Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines,
Temper Trap, The Triffids and Crowded House.
This year, Oh Mercy will tour America for the third time with shows in LA, Austin and New York.
Alexander remembers his last SXSW trip, “Austin was very cold. It was there that I bought beers as big as my face for one dollar.”
At SXSW we are looking for: Licensing opportunities and open bars.

Zayd Thring started Pets With Pets with a home recorded demo in late 2006. In February 2007 Zayd
recruited the first of many drummers (a theme that has uniquely defined the sound over the years)
and started playing shows as a band. Their debut 7” We Only Found This Place, was released in May
2009 and gained attention UK/German label Gronland records (Neu!, Harmonia). The label invited
Pets With Pets to appear on a compilation of bands inspired by Neu! alongside Oasis, Primal Scream,
CiconneYouth, Holy Fuck, Kasabian and Cornelius.
The first Pets With Pets album Saturday Aquatic Pixie Acid was completed and released by Sensory
Projects in March 2011 to critical acclaim. A sold out national tour followed with video releases of songs
from the album.
2011 also saw the split 7” release between Pets With Pets and Love Connection, Home On The Wave. This project spurred an East
Coast tour and video, TV appearances and airplay on community and national radio.
Ash Buscombe (Witch Hats), Will Facfarlane (The Shocking Pinks) and Alex MacFarlane (Teen Archer, Breaker Morant) also joined
Pets With Pets after chance encounters at New Zealand’s Camp A Low Hum festival.

Rock
In 2008 – memory tells me it was summer – good friends Joseph Ryan (Mink Mussel Creek),
Nick Allbrook (Tame Impala, Mink Mussel Creek) and Jay Watson (Tame Impala) sat under
a mulberry tree in Daglish, Perth.
Maybe it was the Mulberry tree, the sunlight, or something in their tea that morning that
inspired them to write the tropical lo-fi psychedelic pastiche Psychedelic Mango. A fun
tune - if you can tolerate the minutes of white noise which invariably accompany every half
sensible pop song.
This resulted in the album Corridors of Blissterday, recorded live with an eight piece band
in five days, sometime in 2009.
Then I’m afraid to say they got too into Prince and Fleetwood Mac, so they accidently made pop funk classic Frond which was
released on boutique Sydney label Hole In The Sky in September 2010.
They also released a little 7” single Greenspool, in January 2011 on the West Australian label Badminton Bandit.
Their new album Beard Wives Denim was recorded on a farm down south of Perth, Western Australia. The fine folks at Modular
Records thought it was such a great record they decided to release it worldwide and with a great amount of fuss at the beginning of
March 2012. Cameron Avery (The Growl) now plays drums and Jamie Terry (The Silents) plays keyboards and other things.

Satellite Sky
Indie Rock/Pop
Satellite Sky is the musical vision of Melbourne siblings, Pete Kicks (vocals/guitar) & Kim Kicks
(drums). It sees an exploration of their rock n roll influences with a grandiose flavor akin to
artists such as The Verve and Bowie, while drawing on raw elements of Supergrass and The
Hives.
Working with producer Paul Lani (U2, Prince), Satellite Sky released their debut EP in May
2011. Widely acclaimed by both industry and fans alike, they have significantly increased their
reputation as a formidable songwriting force. Two of the tracks, ‘I Like It’ and ‘With You’ can be
heard in L.A Film Festival winner ‘Almost Kings’. The Band will also feature in the forthcoming
music documentary ‘Rockin The Wall’. 2011 saw the Band touring throughout the U.S, including
several standout showcases at SxSW in Austin, Texas and CMJ Festival in New York.
Prior to forming Satellite Sky, Pete & Kim toured consistently throughout the globe. This included performances at Popkomm,
Canadian Music Week, SxSW, and exclusive showcases in Los Angeles, New York, London and Berlin.
Anchored by what many industry insiders regard as “one of the best female drummers on the planet”, Satellite Sky has a stage show
that leaves audiences with the knowledge they were witness to an extraordinary Rock ‘n Roll experience!
At SXSW we are looking for: Genuine, honest, dedicated people to jump on board with Satellite Sky!

Sleepmakeswaves
Alternative
Sleepmakeswaves are an instrumental rock band from Sydney, Australia.
Sleepmakeswaves’ bold approach to creating innovative instrumental music has seen
their music downloaded by over 50,000 people online. They’ve received airplay nationally
and internationally (including spins on Triple J and the BBC) and have shared the stage
with Mono, Pelican, Boris Unitopia and Russian Circles. Their electric live performances
have earned them a dedicated following with sold out shows across Australia as well as
appearances at Peats Ridge, Progfest and Menagerie.
The band’s debut studio album …and so we destroyed everything was released through
Bird’s Robe Records in 2011. The album’s lush production and heaving musicianship has
resonated with listeners worldwide. It topped sales charts on Bandcamp, received album of the week honours on KOOP radio
(Texas), nowlikephotographs and end of year nods from Sputnik Music, Drum Media, TheMusic.com.au and Metal Obsession.
Now Sleepmakeswaves are in the midst of an extensive Australian tour. They’ll play their first international shows in the USA and
Europe in 2012, including SXSW in Austin, Texas and co-headlining Dunk! Festival in Belgium alongside This Will Destroy You and

Teeth & Tongue
Rock/Experimental Pop
Teeth & Tongue is New Zealand born, Melbourne based musician Jess Cornelius. After several years
spent performing in rock bands, making a racket and trailing her lipstick-smeared microphone cord across
barroom tables, Jess got her hands on a couple of unloved drum machines and decided her true path lay
in more subtle musical territory.
Now armed with a 505 drum machine, keyboards and electric guitar, Jess weaves her haunting vocal
melodies through pared-back rhythms, hypnotic guitar lines and layered vocal samples.
Influenced by the metronomic drumming of The Scientists and the chameleon-pop powers of David Bowie,
Teeth & Tongue is now forging her own dark route though a kaleidoscope of mixed genres.
In June 2011 she released second album Tambourine via Remote Control to a stellar reception from Australian media. The Age
gave it four stars, The Vine called it, “One of the best Australian releases this year,” and single Unfamiliar Skirts picked up an EG
Song Of The Year Awards nomination.
Teeth & Tongue has toured Europe, performed in Spain with Lydia Lunch and Dawn Landes, played the Falls and Laneway festivals
and supported J Mascis of Dinosaur Jnr, EMA, The Mountain Goats, The Dodos, Juana Molina and Sons And Daughters.

The Art started out in the local Sydney underground scene under the name, The Follow. Their
edgy, fast-paced, live shows caught the attention of Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) who produced
their first album and invited them to tour Australia with Sonic Youth.
Riding on an early wave of success, The Follow moved to America and released a self-titled EP,
produced by Nick Launay of Nick Cave, Silverchair, INXS and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. They played
SXSW plus 40 dates coast to coast across the US.
Later that year after a second whirlwind US tour they recorded their first album in Texas with producer Frenchie Smith (Jet, Trail of
Dead, The Dandy Warhols).
The Art returned to Australia in 2009 to support Marilyn Manson, Them Crooked Vultures and perform at Big Day Out. They scored
the Australian and NZ support slot for The Pixies, on the Dolittle 20 year Anniversary Tour. They also toured with 30 Seconds to Mars,
The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and completed their first headline tour in Australia.
The Art wasted no time signing a deal with Silverback Records and Insomnia Management to put the wheels in motion for the release
of their latest album Here Comes The War, released in February 2011. They’ll return to SXSW and Los Angeles in March 2012.

The Black Ryder
Rhinestone Drone
Essentially, The Black Ryder is the collaboration between Australian artists Aimee Nash and
Scott Von Ryper.
Their debut album Buy The Ticket, Take the Ride, was released through Brooklyn-based
Mexican Summer in the USA in September 2010, EMI Music / The Anti-Machine Machine in
Australia, & Vinyl Junkie in Japan.
Their album and live shows featured special guests including members of Black Rebel
Motorcycle Club, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Swervedriver. To date, the band have
toured with such acts as BRMC, The Cult, The Raveonettes, The Charlatans and Broken Social Scene
Nash and Von Ryper wrote, engineered and produced their album at home. Australia’s Rolling Stone Magazine nominated them as
Best New Artist in 2010 and included the album in the Top 50 Albums of the Year.
The duo recently teamed up with Iconic Australian Jewelry designers MANIAMANIA for three musical visual collaborations. Their
three films featuring international supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw were launched on the New York Times website.
“Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride is sprawling, slow-burning psyche rock that paints creeping moods with layer upon layer of drony,
blissed-out guitars and etheral vocals.... This is the perfect accompaniment to slowly losing your mind,” Rolling Stone Magazine.

The John Steel Singers
Experimental Pop
The John Steel Singers are one of the most well-known alternative acts in Australia. With five
members traversing across instruments like explorers, the Brisbane natives bring another
dimension to the experimental pop aesthetic with an accomplished brass section on trombone
and trumpet, amongst the staple guitars, bass and drums.
They were voted as unsigned band of the year on the Triple J radio Unearthed J Awards in 2008.
Their debut album Tangalooma was produced by Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens and
mixed by Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Fiery Furnaces). The album garnered huge support and
was Triple J’s feature album. The single Overpass, came in at #52 in the Hottest 100 for 2010.
The band has trekked the country with sell-out headline shows and supported some incredible bands on tour such as The
Polyphonic Spree, The Morning Benders and The Dodos. They’ve played festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out and
Laneway Festival. They were recently in the States for CMJ in NY and have returned again for SXSW. They’ll be touring the west
coast with He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister and Bad Weather California, playing the Tree Fort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho as well
as jumping into the studio with LA producer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Little Joy, Au Revoir Simone).

Tonight Alive
Rising from the fevered hotbed of Sydney’s underground hardcore scene, boy meets girl.
Or rather, two boys meet girl to make kick-ass rock music.
Guitarist Whakaio Taahi and his bass player, Cameron Adler, needed a frontman for a rock
project or rather, frontwoman. As soon as 16 year old Jenna McDougall’s soaring contralto
and sweet strains took the mic, something clicked. One jam later with Jake Hardy (rhythm
axeman) and Matt Best (drummer), Tonight Alive were up and running, pedal to the metal.
A year on, courted by labels and management secured, with two stellar EPs (All Shapes
& Disguises and Consider This) under their belts, a demo of Tonight Alive’s new material
landed on producer-extraordinaire Mark Trombino’s (Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, The
Starting Line) desk. He rang the band immediately, wanting in.
Recorded at LA’s infamous NRG Studios over two months, Trombino’s personal interest in the project played out in other fortuitous
ways. What you’re listening to now is the inspired result of that auspicious partnership between a bunch of Aussie kids and an auteur
with a canon of classic records already to his name. What Are You So Scared Of? is one more album to add to that list.

Twerps
Pop
Cheeky, charming and touchingly direct, Melbourne foursome Twerps are rising from humble
beginnings to become international lo-fi pop champions.
Their debut EP, released on Australia’s Chapter Music in late 2009, featured nine short, simple
but incredibly infectious tracks recorded by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring/Total
Control). These tracks were also released by Iowa label Night People (Wet Hair, Peaking Lights).
On the basis of this EP, Twerps were called, “the best new band in Australia” by UK magazine Uncut.
More US labels came calling and Twerps released singles in early 2011 on Underwater Peoples (Mountain Man, Real Estate) and
Group Tightener (Best Coast, Cloud Nothings). They also took off on their first US tour, a six week cross-country odyssey that saw
them shine at SXSW, head through the midwest with Wet Hair and pack out a New York show with Big Troubles.
Their self-titled debut album followed in late 2011, a Chapter Music/Underwater Peoples co-release. Pitchfork gave it a 7.9 review
and awarded their album’s single Coast To Coast a Best New Track (only the third Aussie band ever to score a BNT, after Cut Copy
and Tame Impala). The album was also streamed in full by Gorilla Vs Bear and Stereogum and picked up by hundreds of blogs
around the world.
Now the band is headed back to the US for SXSW, followed by a five week tour in April/May.

Voltaire Twins are a Perth-based indie dance quartet. Their story began in 2008, when the
then two-piece, siblings Jaymes and Tegan, won the Triple J Unearthed Parklife competition.
Following the Parklife Festival the duo was swept into the festival circuit and received offers to
support many high profile acts including Ladytron, Maximo Park, Midnight Juggernauts and Art
vs Science and many more.
The band’s latest single Animalia, released in late 2011, gained high rotation on Australian radio
stations before being released in the US in November 2011 where it debuted at #36 on the USA
college radio charts. The accompanying music video took out Gold at the Australian Cinematography Awards and was voted the 7th
most popular video of the year by viewers of ABCTV’s Rage.
The band has toured Australia extensively and in 2010 travelled to New York City for the CMJ Music Marathon.
The band has received remixes from European disco producers Lifelike (France), Moullinex (Portugal/Germany) and JBAG (France/
UK) and their track D.I.L. was featured on French tastemaker label Kitsune’s 2010 Kitsune x Ponystep compilation.
The band has enjoyed widespread international blog attention from the likes of Lost at E Minor, The Coolhunter and Nylon Magazine.
The Moullinex remix of Romulus reached Hype Machine’s top ten most downloaded, blogged and listened to tracks in December
2011.

Wim
Glam Folk
WIM have emerged on the scene out of relative obscurity. There have been
whispers about them for years following their wondrous live shows; and now their
haunting tunes will bring them into the limelight. WIM is proud as punch to announce
It’s now available on ITunes in the USA.
WIM’s debut, self-titled record has been a creative meeting of minds, having been
produced by local legend Tony Buchen (Andy Bull, Ray Man 3, Kid (Andy Bull, Ray
Man 3, Kid Confucious) and mixed by industry aristocracy Bob Clearmountain
(Springsteen, Roxy Music, INXS) in L.A. The result is an album that encapsulates the
best of classic song writing and modern ideas, executed in a phenomenal fashion.
The record itself doesn’t ooze of a buzz band way ahead of itself but rather a gradually growing group of musicians doing what
they do best.
From the stomping album opener ‘Collossus’ to the poignant first single - ‘See You Hurry’, the band exudes confidence, style and
prestige. The album takes many turns, as a journey is formed with tracks like ‘America’ and the ethnic tinged ‘John’. You not only
listen, but feel this music, with every listen, your senses open up and take in what is a densely beautiful album.

Drawing a symbiotic balance from the soundtracks of West Africa, Turkey and beyond,
Brainfeeder hip-hop, UK Bass and 60s psychedelic soul, Young Magic is an ethereal
exploration into past and future.
Appearing at Iceland’s Airwaves festival in October 2011, New York’s CMJ festival in the
same month and supporting Youth Lagoon nationally throughout America and Canada
this November, Young Magic’s sound is spreading far and wide in the lead up to their debut
release.
Whilst living Mexico, singer and songducer Isaac Emmanuel contacted Michael Italia, an old friend from Melbourne who was also
travelling the world. Back in New York, Brooklyn based, Indonesian born Melati Malay was making beautifully wistful songs. The trio
had met a few years earlier and immediately shared a common love of sound: big and delicate eternal rhythms that help you drift up
and off; that make your heart and head melt in equal measure.
In early 2011 they reunited in NY and rented a space above an illegal 1920s cabaret venue in Brooklyn. They started recording
together, collaborating and pulling all the pieces together like a puzzle - a collection of sounds and common experiences from the
previous year.
Releasing a pair of 7”s in 2011, the band’s debut full length album Melt is set for release on February 14th 2012 through Carpark
Records.
