POSTING REFERENCE #10604 Central Library – Maintenance Department CLEANER/CUSTODIAN PERMANENT PART TIME – 20 HOURS PER WEEK Monday – Thursday 5pm – 9pm Friday 2pm – 6pm JOB SUMMARY: Reports to the Facility Supervisor of Corporate Buildings. Ensures the cleanliness of high traffic areas including washrooms, children’s area, foyers/lobbies, elevators and staircase areas of Central Library. Performs maintenance duties at Central Library and other library locations as required. Responsible for providing a clean, healthy and safe environment for staff and public utilizing Central Library. JOB DUTIES: Clean, sanitize & polish all washroom toilets, urinals & sink fixtures and floors. Clean, replenish and sanitize when necessary, all washroom dispensers and waste containers. Spot clean all washroom glass, mirrors, doors, partitions & walls. Wipe clean all horizontal surfaces including shelves, ledges, pictures moldings in washrooms & lobbies. Clean & polish interior & exterior of all public elevators. Clean lobby/foyer glass including both sides of entrance doors. Not exterior windows. Spot clean lobby/foyer walls, light switches, kick and push plates, door handles etc. Clean & sanitize drinking fountains. Clean public staircase glass and hand railings and stairwell from 1st floor to basement. POSTING REFERENCE #10604 Sweep/mop spills on hard floor surfaces as required. Spot clean carpet stains or sweep/mop spills, debris on carpeted areas as required. Clears litter & debris from Library grounds & disposes of garbage. Clears snow from entrances & walkways by shovelling, sanding &/or salting. Dismantle and move furniture. Clean basement offices and hallways. Clean children’s play area, vacuum floor. Sets up & dismantles equipment for Library programs & events. Respond to & clean up any Health & Safety concerns such as slipping or tripping hazards, foul odors etc. Perform minor maintenance tasks. ie. toilet valves, dripping taps. Keep janitor room clean & tidy. Logs and reports any building and/or equipment deficiencies. Performs all other duties as assigned, which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job. QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of education & experience related to the specific duties listed. Trained in WHIMIS. Good working knowledge of the Ontario Health & Safety Act. Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision. Ability to work co-operatively with other maintenance team members. Must be mechanically inclined and have the ability to establish priorities. Good working knowledge of hand & power tools, their operation & safety precautions. Classification –B - $20.32 - $23.906 hourly – schedule will include Monday to Thursday 5pm to 9pm and Friday 2pm to 6pm. Hours are subject to change based on operational needs and may include Saturdays with a two week schedule change.
