PARKING OPTIONS:
We recommend using the following roads to park on - but
please be considerate to residents & park with care & DO
NOT block residents in their driveways! All parking is first
come first served, so please plan a couple of options for
where you could park well in advance.
Dulwich College Car Park: there are a limited number of spaces available to
participants who have bought pre-paid parking tickets which are now available to buy
on our website. Dulwich College is just down the road from the start venue.
Court Lane: located next door to Dulwich Park on the opposite side of the park to the
start line. You can gain access through the gate on this side of the park.
Gallery Road: located parallel to College Road and only a short ride/walk to the start.
Alleyn Park: this is a long road with plenty of space to park. The top of this road is 0.5
miles from the start and 0.9 miles from the finish line and event village. The bottom of
this road is 0.9 miles from the start and 1.3 miles from the finish.
Alleyn Road: located parallel to Alleyn Park road, it is approximately 1.1 miles from
Dulwich Park and 1.5 miles from the Velodrome.
Hunts Slip Road: located next door to Dulwich College, it is approximately 0.7 miles to
the start and 1.1 miles from the finish.
There are also a number of other roads available to park on in this area. If you don’t
mind a short ride to/from the event perhaps also look at the parking options further
afield e.g. in Peckham.
BIKE: Please make sure it is in good condition! There will be mechanics at the start
venue and at all Feed Stations on the route, but we would advise making sure your
bike is in tip top condition prior to arriving at the event.
HELMET: Helmets are compulsory and MUST be worn on the day.
DRINKS BOTTLES & REFRESHMENTS: You will be able to replenish at the Feed Stations but ensure you
start out with the right sustenance with you (full drinks bottles / snacks etc).
BIKE REPAIR KIT: Your bike repair kit - spare inner tubes, pump, puncture repair kit including tyre levers,
multi-tool, chain tool, shimano pin etc. There will be mechanical support around the route.
CLOTHING: Conditions can vary greatly across the distance of the route, please ensure you check the
weather & bring appropriate clothing / sun screen, a mobile phone and some form of identification.
MONEY: Please ensure you bring some change with you to pay for any parts you may need on the course
(mechanic support is free but you may need to pay for some parts), as well as for a coffee before you
start and for the big BBQ at the finish!
FRIENDS/FAMILY: Why not invite them to welcome you back at Herne Hill Velodrome & cheer you on
your lap from the stands!
Everything in your Event Pack (for details see next page)
Your Event Pack will be posted to you a week prior to the event (unless your registered
address is outside the UK in which case you will need to pick up your event pack on the
morning of the event). If, for whatever reason, you have not received your event pack by
the event weekend, simply come and see us at the event Information Desk at the start
and we will be able to issue a new pack to you. Please allow additional time to collect it.
Within your pack, you will receive your event number, helmet and bike stickers, coloured card and
timing chip all of which you need to bring with you to the event…
1. Large Event Number This must be attached to your outside garment on your back with safety pins (we do
not supply the safety pins). This must be visible at all times (on your back) during the ride and is your
passport to the Feed Stations and sweep vehicle where required.
2. Coloured Card This is for us to identify who is riding which distance so the colour you have received will
match your chosen distance. Please attach this to the front of your bike with the cable ties provided – two
cable ties around the top and one around the bottom to go round your bike stem.
3. Helmet and Bike Stickers These stickers, printed with your event number, should be affixed as follows:
o One small one to the FRONT of your helmet (so we can identify you from the front)
o One small one on the bottom of your Coloured Card
o The long one around your seat tube pointing backwards (so we can identify you from the side)
4. Timing Chip This is a very important bit of equipment. If it is not attached correctly it may result in a fault.
It should be attached to the LEFT hand side of your helmet as per the instructions provided in the pack.
If you’ve just read the ‘What you need to Bring’ page or checked the weather and
need any last minute gear for the ride – don’t panic! Everything is available at the
click of the mouse from Wiggle with free UK delivery, and they can even arrange
next day delivery for a little extra.

SIGNAGE:
From start to finish there will be signage marking the route. Signs will also indicate when you are
approaching a Feed Station, route split or timed section.
Please ensure that you look out for ‘Route Split’ signs to make sure you are following the correct
arrows for your chosen route. You will all follow directional signs with a white arrow on a red
background from the start but for those riding the Medium or Short routes the colour of your
directional signs will change at your route split point and you will continue following these signs
until you re-join the main route when you will start following the red signs once again.

FEED STATIONS:
There will be Feed Stations along the route at various locations.
Cyclists tackling the Long Route will have 3 Feed Stations, those on the
Medium Route will have 2 Feed Stations and those on the Short Route will have
1 Feed Station.
Please note that riders should carry sufficient supplies of food and nutritional supplement, Feed
Stations should be regarded as a back up if a riders’ own supplies run out.
Please be respectful of our Feed Station venues: do not drop any litter & please use the bins
provided.
Toilets are available at all stops, please use these rather than the hedge & please be respectful of all
property along the route!
There will be mechanics available to help you with any bike issues at the start venue and at each
Feed Station. Please bring along some money with you in case you need to pay for any bike
components you may need such as inner tubes, tyres etc.
TIMING:
The event will be timed and will feature:
A timed climb up the infamous Box Hill.
Timing points will be clearly marked at the start and finish of the climb up ‘zig-zag hill’
which featured so prominently in the 2012 Olympic Road Race. Take on the challenge
of climbing this steep ascent but make sure you leave enough in the tank for the closing stretch!
A timed lap of the Herne Hill Velodrome.
As you enter the Velodrome, your full sportive time will conclude as you hit the track and you will begin
your final lap around the Velodrome for which you will be issued with a separate time.
In addition to these, this year we are also introducing a timing point in the Chipstead Valley area on
your return leg to Herne Hill Velodrome. This is to ensure that as well as an overall time at the end you
also receive a 2nd “sportive time” without the effect of the inevitable hold ups at traffic lights coming
back into London included.
However please always ride sensibly throughout the whole route, stopping at traffic lights and
following the Highway Code at all times.
Ride Captains provided by ‘Hot Chillee’:
This year we have teamed up with Hot Chillee who will be providing
a team of friendly, highly experienced ‘Ride Captains’ who will be
riding amongst you on the day.
The ‘Ride Captains’ are a great bunch of guys and girls who really
know their stuff about all things cycling and will be on hand to offer
you support and advice on the day as well as mechanical help
should you need it!
They will be dressed head to toe in Hot Chillee lycra (like this happy
chappy on the right) and will be riding the Short, Medium and Long
distance routes with you, so if and when you see them feel free to
ride up to them and have a chat about cadence, wattage, the Lance
Armstrong saga and other cool cycling related stuff.
ROAD AWARENESS & CYCLING ETIQUETTE:
•
The roads are open and you must obey all Highway Code Rules at all times.
•
You are requested to ride in single file where appropriate and no more than
2 abreast at any time.
•
Please be aware of your fellow cyclists and other traffic.
•
Please always indicate your intention to stop or change direction.
•
Please do not pass through any red traffic lights - we have had instances in the past of the Police
contacting us to identify riders who have skipped lights.
•
DO NOT drop litter out on the course!
Remember you are all ambassadors for cycling so please be considerate, polite
and friendly to other road users, pedestrians and locals when you ride past!
SWEEP VEHICLES: We will have a fleet of vehicles out on the route to help you
out with any issues and to pick you and your bike up should you not wish to carry
on. Please call the Emergency Number (see next page) if you need collecting.
We would ask you to please be patient with this service as, depending on your
position on the course, others requiring picking up too, the distance involved (& London roads!), it
may take a while to get you back to the Finish Venue. We will however endeavour to get you back
ASAP!
MEDICAL: There will be a medical presence at the start/finish venues, at each Feed Station and
mobile along the route.
MECHANICS: We will have bike mechanics at the start venue in Dulwich Park and at each Feed
Station. Please bring loose change to pay for any bike components you may need e.g. inner tubes.
NOTE:
We reserve the right to terminate participation on health and safety grounds. This includes,
but is not limited to, the re-direction or closure of sections of the route due to events outside our
control, rider route progress, or in the event of severe weather conditions.
In the event of an emergency or problem during the event please contact
Event Control based at the Herne Hill Velodrome on the number below.
EMERGENCY NUMBER: 07541 575 819
NOTE: Mobile phone reception can be poor on some sections of the route. If you are
unable to get a signal for assistance please ask a fellow rider to relay your message when
further along the route or wait for a Motorcycle Marshal or Route Vehicle to assist you.
All riders will get to finish with a timed lap of the Herne Hill Velodrome before
winding your way down and into the Event Village. So please get your friends and
family to come along to check out this fantastic historic venue and to take a seat in
the grandstand to cheer you around the track!

There will also be kid’s activities on the inner track of the Velodrome whilst
you wait for your family and friends to return including….
BMX sessions – this is a really fun session taken by a British Cycling BMX
coach, who provides the bikes and the obstacles for the kids to traverse!
Track Cycling sessions – for the budding Chris Hoys and Victoria Pendletons
out there! This session is organised by British Cycling track coaches who
know their stuff and will also provide proper track cycling bikes.
Scootathlon – run by the Human Race staff, the infamous kids Scootathlon
is a fun race involving a one lap on their scooters, one on their bikes and
then running the final lap. Children will need to bring their own scooters
and bikes along with them on the day for this.
