MOVIE GUIDE ANNA KARENINA -Director Joe Wright reunites with Keira Knightley for an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's classic novel. Knightley stars as Anna, a vibrant woman caught in a passionless marriage with a high-ranking government official (Jude Law). When Anna is seduced by a calvary officer (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), scandal erupts in St. Petersburg. Wright's bold, gloriously photographed Anna Karenina is based on a screenplay by Tom Stoppard. THE COMEDY - Rick Alverson's ironically titled The Comedy is a provocative study of an aging Brooklyn hipster. Tim Heidecker is Swanson, a spoiled jerk who sits around waiting for his rich father to die. The Comedy follows Swanson as he hangs out with his friends, rides his bike and works menial jobs (not because he needs the money; he's just bored, you know?). Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric), James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and Gregg Turkington (aka Neil Hamburger) co-star. KILLING THEM SOFTLY – Three dumb guys who think they’re smart rob a Mob protected card game, causing the local criminal economy to collapse. An enforcer named Cogan is hired to track them down and restore order. HITCHCOCK - This mostly true story of the making of Psycho shows how Hollywood's ultimate director bucked the system to make a screen version of a lurid horror novel, by mortgaging his home and shooting with a low-budget crew. Featuring Anthony Hopkins as the title character, Helen Mirren as his shadow collaborator Alma, and Scarlet Johansson as Janet Leigh,Hitchcock is a perfect holiday movie. THE HOBBIT – The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands. Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities…A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know. PLAYING FOR KEEPS – A romantic comedy about a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star who returns home to put his life back together. Looking for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team. But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursuer him at every turn.
