The trees and the rocks will teach you that which you cannot hear from the masters. --St. Bernard of Clairvaux The Grapevine SAVORING THE EXPERIENCE One of the wonderful things about vacations is the time we spend two or three weeks afterward savoring the experience, sharing vacation photos and memories with our family and friends. This kind of reflection puts us back in touch with the original experience and reminds us of the relaxation and wonder the vacation afforded us. Today, on the Third Sunday of Easter, the Church blesses us with reminders of what we celebrated two Sundays ago. All three readings are reflections on the meaning of the death and resurrection of Christ. One of the threads running through these reflections is that the purpose of the Lord's suffering, death, and resurrection was to save us, to forgive our sins. We are given fifty days to ponder this reality--fifty days to savor the experience of Christ's dying and rising for us. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. Come See Pope Francis! What made me really happy to see were the “Mighty Youth,” in many cases, sons and daughters of Mighty Moms who were hauling boxes of food from trucks and from the store room on the back of the parish campus. Mighty Moms and Mighty Youth wer e good to see wor king together with big smiles doing something so really good for the needy in our community. These were great Easter photographs on a good day of Easter. We thank you also for the many times you filled their barrel in the parish hall and the box in the church foyer as they prepared for this special day. As we continue in our celebration of Easter, a wor d often associated with Easter is witnessing. In the Acts of the Apostles which we read throughout this Easter Season, we read and hear of Peter and the other disciples witnessing that the Jesus whom they heard preaching, healing and saw crucified is alive. Christians in every generation from those first disciples down to us have also been witnesses. Yes, we might be those who believe without seeing, but the important thing is that we are not simply repeating the words of others. The str ength of Christian witness is based on encounters with the Risen Jesus that have made the proclamation of his being alive ever fresh. Pope Benedict XVI once said, “Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but rather the encounter with an event, a person which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.” This life-changing encounter with the risen Lord shouldn’t be considered the privilege of a few, but rather an invitation to all. How can we dare to have such a personal encounter? How can this experience of the Risen Lord be my mine and not simply that of others? Pope Francis seems to complete what Pope Benedict started when he says, “I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her since no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord.” As we continue through this Easter Season, let us be bold in asking for and open to this renewed encounter. Let us join with the many who have not seen, but believed, because they have personally encountered him. Let us be witnesses! Unfortunately for many Easter is now over until next spring. But for those of us who believe in the resurrection, every day is an opportunity to grow as Easter People. Easter changed those first disciples. Let us allow this Easter Season to help us grow as Easter People with Alleluia in our hearts. Let us keep one another in prayer, Love, Page Four Sunday, April 19, 2015 The Grapevine Immaculate Conception Church April 19 — May 2, 2015 Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday 19 20 21 22 23 24 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Sunday Mass/ MSH 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Nursery/TB5 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM RCIA Session/ MH 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Children's Liturgy/SH 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Baptisms/C 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Catholic Daughters/MH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts #283/TB 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Training of New Liturgical Ministers/R2 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM Reconciliation/C 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Girl Scouts/ PMAC 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Mass/C 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Nov/Bene/C 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Adult Choir/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM G A Bible: 1st Corinthians/SH 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM Don’t Put Off Dying Until the End/MH 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Mighty Macs YMtg/PMAC 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM Small Faith/R2 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM G A Bible: ACTS/211 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM TMIY/R2 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Apologetics/FFC 209-A 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Boy Scouts #283/ TB 8:00 AM - 8:25 AM Reconciliation/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Charismatic Prayer/C 26 27 28 29 30 1 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Sunday Mass/C 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Mass/MSH 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Nursery/TB5 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM RCIA/MH 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Children's Lit./SH 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM First Eucharist/ Reception/C/MH 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM First Eucharist/ Reception/C/MH 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDA Officers Meeting/R2 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts #283/TB 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM Reconciliation/C 6:00 PM - 6:30 PM Mass/C 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Nov/Bene/C 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Facilities/R2 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Men's Club/SH 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Adult Choir/C 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Cub Scouts Committee/TB1 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM Small Faith/R2 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM G A Bible: ACTS/ FFC 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Apologetics/FFC 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Boy Scouts #283/ TB13 8:00 AM - 8:25 AM Reconciliation/C 8:30 AM - 9:00 AM Mass/C 9:15 AM - 2:00 PM ELC/CD 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH Saturday 25 MAY 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 12:45 PM - 3:45 PM Reconciliation/C 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 2 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM AA Meeting/SH 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM Reconciliation/C 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday Mass/C 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Family Pot-Luck/C ALL AA Meetings at ICC are OPEN! . . . Page Five Sunday, April 19, 2015 The Grapevine —Formation— Faith Focus 2015 R.C.I.A. We have reached the 4th period of the R.C.I.A. process which is the neophyte year. All who were baptized and received into full communion are called neophytes in this period. The final period of regular weekly formation extends through the Easter season, the seven weeks from Easter to Pentecost. This post-baptismal catechesis is called Mystagogy. It is a time for deepening the Christian experience, especially in appreciation for the sacramental life, for spiritual growth, and for entering more fully into the life and unity of the Catholic community. The neophytes now share with Christ, and his Body in the parish community, the intimate communion of the Eucharist. Now they have access to all the means of sanctification. We as a parish community pledge to help them grow and mature in the Christian life and to develop a genuine Catholic world view. Please pray for all those who God has called to join us as we continue on our pilgrimage to our Father in Heaven. If you would like more information about the R.C.I.A. process, contact Judy Graphia at 665-9631.
