AS PART OF THE INDIA SHOW
While announcing the New Foreign Trade Policy for the period 2009-2014 on August 27, 2009, the Union Commerce
& Industry Minister, Shri Anand Sharma had observed that “the Government seeks to promote Brand India through
‘Made in India’ shows to be organized across the world every year”.
India Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) is organized by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India with
EEPC India (formerly Engineering Export Promotion Council) as lead Agency. IESS is part of “India Show”, a brand
created by Department of Commerce. The main objective of the “India Show” is to promote India’s image and
provide a platform for Indian organizations to showcase their strengths and capabilities. For the first time Ministry
has taken an initiative to organize an exclusive show on Engineering Sourcing in India under the banner “India
Show”. IESS provided a platform for various manufacturing technology of the global industry to showcase their
competence & strength.
With support from Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, EEPC India had earlier
successfully organized “India Shows” at Istanbul, Turkey (February 2011) and Toronto, Canada
(October 2011). More than 160 Indian companies including Indian Government Departments and
State Government participated at both the shows. Several business ventures and MOUs
were developed during the events. During 2013 EEPC India will be going to
Tokyo, Japan (June 20-22) and Bruno, Republic of Czech (September 10-14) for
organizing “India Show”.
1st edition of IESS was organized at Bombay Exhibition Center, Mumbai, State of Maharashtra, India. Mumbai is the
commercial capital of India and accounts for slightly more than 6% of India's economy contributing 40% of foreign
trade. Mumbai was ranked among the fastest cities in India for business start up. Maharashtra's is India's leading
industrial state contributing 13% of national industrial output.
India has emerged as global manufacturing hub. India is the leading source for competent supplies of low cost and
high quality products. India is looking outwards establishing global trade partnerships which will have very wide
and significant long term outcome. Engineering sector today has emerged as a most important exporting sector of
India and is also now transforming into a high-tech area whereby technological and other collaborations are being
lined-up with foreign companies. India's cheap, skilled manpower is attracting a number of companies, spanning
diverse industries, making India a global manufacturing powerhouse. EEPC India has taken the initiative for
developing more trade in the engineering sector by holding a mega engineering event in India.
EEPC India is a premier Trade Promotion Body of India, set up & sponsored by Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India.
EEPC India is an ISO 9001-2000 organization and has been serving over 12,000 Indian member companies consisting
of large Corporate Houses, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs), etc. EEPC India is pioneer in organizing engineering
exhibitions, business meetings and delegations in & outside India with the aim of promoting bilateral trade including
joint venture, technology collaboration and investment.

HIGHLIGHTS OF BUSINESS GENERATED
Several B2B meetings were fixed thru the portal EEPC Connect. At the Debriefing Session on March 24, 2012,
Mr.Rakesh Shah, Chairman, PED Committee presented the main highlights of the business generated by the Indian
participants based on a quick survey of 120 companies. Here a more detailed analysis is being presented based on
feedback received from 203 Indian and 25 foreign participants.

Business Enquiries Received
Of the 203 Indian exhibitors, a total
of 7196 business contacts were made
by them while the 25 foreign
participants mentioned they had 658
business contacts during the three
day event.
Business enquiries refers to the stage subsequent to making a business
contact and shows serious intent in engaging into a business contract
and is therefore the stage before the finalization of a firm order.
Number of Contacts
At IESS 2012, a total number of 353 Business enquires amounting a
value of USD 37.41 million was generated on the Indian side while the
25 foreign participants mentioned that they generated 44 business
enquiries amounting to USD 881,000.

were able to identify or appoint

Indian side, 35 of them were able to
do the same
As can be expected, normally placing a final order takes a while and this
figure is expected to be much lower. IESS 2012 was no exception
though interestingly, the foreign participants seem to have done much
better than their Indian counterparts in terms of number of order book
while the reverse is true in case of the value of orders that were
booked.
