component of many of Mr. Rubin's roles over the past 25
years. This experience has enabled Mr. Rubin to develop
skills in the "liberal art" aspect of change management,
focusing on the human side of managing change and
transformation, and the leadership skills required to
effectively lead people through change.
Big Data and Risk Management as a
Competitive Weapon
This presentation outlines the rise in the number and
quality of data sources available to decision makers; how
we, as risk managers, can leverage this information to
move towards offensive risk management; and discuss
using risk management as a competitive weapon.
Establishing a Meaningful Enterprise-wide
Risk Management Process
While most companies are required to, or feel compelled to,
establish an enterprise-wide risk framework and
management process, their effectiveness will be less than
desirable until the company and its leadership wants to
establish an enterprise-wide risk framework and
management process. This presentation will focus on a
“meaningful” and practical enterprise-wide risk framework
and management process that is applicable to all types of
companies, based on an appreciation of the basic
fundamentals and components of risk.

Risk Governance Framework & Internal
Audit- The Path Forward for the Financial
Services Industry
The financial crisis that rocked the world recently resulted in
a dramatically different regulatory landscape for the
financial services industry today.
This interactive session will focus on, among other things,
the heightened standards set by the regulators to
strengthen the governance and risk management practices
of large financial institutions; the role of internal audit as it
relates to independently assessing the design and ongoing
effectiveness of the risk governance framework; and
discussion on how companies are addressing and reporting
on regulatory requirements related to risk governance/risk
management.
Alignment Between the Different Assurance
Players
How beneficial is the alignment between the different
assurance players (ERM, IA, External Auditors, Quality…)?
Barbieri received a BS in Accounting from the University
of Torino and earned an Executive MBA from the ESCP
Europe in 2008. He is a Certified Public Accountant
(CPA) and owns the Certification in Risk Management
Assurance (CRMA). Barbieri was appointed Senior Vice
President, Head of Group Internal Audit of the Adecco
Group – worldwide leader in HR services - in July 2008.
To foster independence he reports directly to the Board
of Directors. Prior to joining the Adecco Group, he served
as Head of Internal Audit for the EMEA region at Eaton
Corporation, a Fortune 200 global power management
company. Barbieri also held audit and consulting
positions at Italcementi Group and Accenture.

Gannon University in Erie, PA and an MBA from Rider
University in Lawrenceville, NJ. Alex has spent his career
working for various sized banks and insurance companies
in PA, NJ and NY primarily responsible for risk
management and compliance.
What is needed to be taken into consideration? How to align
the work done by the different players? Which impact can
have SOX, COSO and local legislations? Mistakes to avoid
and lessons learned.
Performing a Quality RFP and Selecting the
Right ERM Vendor for Your Organization
Alex Opiela, Chief Risk Officer of Royal Bank America, will
discuss their recent Request For Proposal (RFP) to purchase
and implement an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and
Vendor Management (VM) platform. Like many smaller
organizations either starting out or a few years into ERM
and VM, purchasing software to automate their process is a
big step. Find out what questions to ask the software
providers, who should be on the decision making team, what
parameters are important to your organization, and much
more.

clients and lawyers can work together in a “legal by
design” framework so that risks can be identified,
prioritized, and managed. It will also feature case studies
of when business and legal partners worked together to
successfully mitigate risk, and some best practices on how
to discuss risk with business leaders.
Human Capital Risk as a Driver for Growth
Everything’s changing. Regulation. Technology. The
Environment. Education. People are at the center of all
these fascinating changes. How do we cope with this
changing environment?
How does this environment
affect our employees? Changes are affecting every area
of our reach and at an increasing speed. Identifying the
needs of our teams may be more complex than ever
before. So, where do we start and what are the risks?
Dave will explore a variety of changes impacting our

executive level, including Visa EU, Barclaycard UK,
BNP Paribas, TD Bank, Wright Express Corp.,
PowerPay LLC and a variety of private equity firms.
Pete graduated early with a BS in Economics from
the University of Delaware and began his career as
an economist for the US Treasury and the
International Monetary Fund.
Linking Internal Audit to Risk Management
HMS is the nation's leader in coordination of benefits and
program integrity services for healthcare payers. Our
mission is to help make the healthcare system work better
for everyone.
Evolution of ERM in Newly Public Companies
Jim will share his experience transforming three large pre-IPO
private company’s decentralized ERM programs into post-IPO
formalized programs. These formalized programs meet the critical
needs of Operations, Financial Reporting regulation and Internal
Audit planning with a very simplistic approach that is easy-tounderstand at the business, senior management and board
levels. By collaborating existing leadership in a Risk Council, Jim’s
approach also minimizes duplication of efforts and the
administrative impact of ERM on the company.
Mitigating Risk in a Cloud Environment
Defining an approach to risk is challenging, especially as
the evolution of technology creates a state of constant
change. As more of our interactions take place in a digital
environment via the cloud, mitigating risk requires a
comprehensive framework that navigates the major
ecommerce developments and trends such as mobile
wallets and prepaid commerce. Pete Kledaras will report
from the front lines on how solution providers can close the
exposed gaps in the cloud environment to reduce fraud,
increase sales and create a satisfied and loyal customer.
