Easter event in the Park scheduled for
April 4 has been cancelled due to lack of
interest.
The Neighborhood Association Board asked for
volunteers to help with this event and not one
person called to offer their assistance. Board
members are busy people too, and they could use a
little help with community events.
They are hoping to have a July Fourth picnic in the Park. Watch for
information and please offer to help!
Carrollwood Meadows Park
Our community is very lucky to have such a wonderful park within
walking or biking distance for most residents. For those who are
new or haven't been to the park, there are two playground areas for
children of all ages. There are two tennis courts and one basketball
court. The park has a large open field and a pavilion with picnic
tables. There are several park benches located around the park to sit
and watch nature or watch your children while they enjoy the
playground. The park benches were purchased with a mini-grant
that our neighborhood association applied for and received a few
years ago. Board members and residents put the benches together
and the County installed them. A couple of these benches have
been damaged over the last year (possibly skateboards). Let's all
treat the park and park equipment like the gem it is. And when
visiting the park, please put trash and dog waste in the garbage
cans.
Trashed Park
Someone had a party in the park on President's Day, Monday,
February 16th. There were quite a few people and they seemed to
have a good time. They stayed past the "closing time" of the park,
which is listed as Sunset, but because they were fairly quiet, they
were not asked to leave. It was noted by a resident of Carrollwood
Meadows that many of the cars in the parking lot had out of state
license plates (most were Illinois plates). The following day,
several residents reported that the park had been "trashed." There
was plenty of garbage in and around the pavilion, around the
basketball court, in both playground areas and even in the
pond. There is NO EXCUSE for this, since there are several
garbage cans throughout the park. Garbage was sitting less than
five feet from a garbage can. Are people that lazy or are they just

ignorant? The mess
was reported to the
County Parks
Department and they
did come out and clean
up the mess. Before
they arrived, a resident
and small child were
busy picking up the
trash. They had not
attended this party, but
had come down to play
at the park and could not believe that people could enjoy having
their party at the park and then go off and leave such a mess behind.
Then three weeks later, another party took place in the park (not
sure if it was the same group of people). This time they were asked
to leave shortly after sunset. They explained that they did not
realize that the park closed at sunset (even though there are
signs). They said this while fishing next to the NO FISHING sign
by the pond. Asking for 20 minutes to clean up and leave, they
were given 30 minutes. Believe it or not, they left a mess. Again,
most of the cars in the parking lot had Illinois plates.
On a side note, whether the park gate is locked or not, parking
inside the gate or outside, a person can be arrested for trespassing if
they are on County property after the posted time of
closing. Residents who live near the park have been asked to call
the Sheriff's Department if they see activity in the park after
closing. When parties are taking place at the park, license plate
numbers will be recorded and given to the Sheriff's Department if a
mess is left. The park is for the enjoyment of all. If you make a
mess, pick up after yourself.
Special Tax District Update
Tax Board members pulled out the shovels, put on their gardening
gloves and spruced up the front entrance. They spent most of
Saturday, February 21st planting dozens of white and red flowers in
front of the gazebo and around the flag pole area. They removed the
overgrown plants from the flag pole to freshen it up with new
flowers. The drip irrigation line around the gazebo was found to be
broken, so a new line was installed. Looking for more to...the men
decided to see why the one bollard light along Farmington
Boulevard was leaning. As they dug down, they discovered a tree
root had grown under the base of the light and had shifted the light
causing it to lean. With the removal of the root and some creativity,
they straightened it out. By the end of the day, they had
accomplished several jobs that in turn had saved the community
hundreds of tax dollars. A big THANK YOU to our board members
who volunteer many, many hours serving our community. If you
see them working at the front entrance planting or decorating for
Christmas or the Fourth of July, be sure to say thank you or offer to
lend a hand. They are a fun and friendly group of people.
The Board met recently to fine tune the lawn care contract. The
contract will go out for bids which will be opened and voted
upon. Improvements to the common grounds will be discussed at
the next meetings in order to plan the budget accordingly. If you
have any suggestions for improvements, please attend the tax
board meeting on April 8th at 7:30 pm in the park building or
contact Sandy Fredericks 963-6159.
Fourth Of July Picnic

The neighborhood association board
members are tentatively planning to host a
Fourth of July Picnic in the park. Plans they are discussing include
having a cookout, games like Bocci ball, shuffleboard, mini-golf,
bean bag toss, BINGO, and music by the Dixie Land Jazz Band
(they played at the May 2014 Red White and You event). If you
have ideas or suggestions and would like to help with this event, be
sure to attend the April 9th neighborhood association meeting at
7:30 pm in the park building. Come early, 7:00pm if you'd like to
play ping-pong. Hope to see you there!
The Young at Heart Seniors had a fun filled March. The beginning
of March, special guest speaker, Mary Keith from the FL Extension
Service, gave her last talk to the group. Mary is joining the ranks of
the retired. She has been a favorite speaker,
bringing information on a variety of health and
nutrition issues. Her visits will be missed. After
having spring break, they returned to a St.
Patrick's Day party complete with corned beef on
rye sandwiches, cole slaw, green desserts, all
washed down with foamy beer (root beer!). They
played a green trivia game and played McBINGO. The room was
decorated with shamrocks and handmade centerpieces. Everyone
was Irish on St. Patrick's Day!
At one of the Fun with Food Fridays, they celebrated the first day of
spring by making and eating "Dirt Cups." (see recipe) Lots of fun
things are planned for April. The group meets Tuesday-Friday in
the park building 10:00 - noon. Summer schedule: starting in June,
they will meet in the park building on Tuesdays only. For more

Recipe For Dirt Cups
1 package Oreo cookies
1 small box of chocolate instant pudding
2 cups cold milk
1 small 8 oz. tube of Cool Whip
1 bag of gummy worms
In a large zip-lock bag, crush the Oreo
cookies. In a bowl, whisk together
pudding mix with milk following package directions. Let sit for
five minutes then stir in Cool Whip and half of the crushed
Oreos. Spoon mixture into 8 clear cups. Put the remaining Oreo
crumbs on top of mixture and place 2-3 gummy worms on top
pushing part of "worm" into "dirt." Eat and enjoy.

Membership Drive
Yard Of The Month
Each month, postcards are being mailed out to members reminding
them that their membership has expired. There has been a pretty
good response by people renewing their memberships. If you are
new to the community or a long time resident, please show your
support for Carrollwood Meadows by becoming a member and
getting involved.
There are only six meetings a year and membership dues are only
$12.00 a year. Dues are used not only to cover the cost of hosting
parties and refreshments for meetings, but for postage for reminder
postcards and letters to residents regarding problems with their
property (first step before getting the County involved.) Most
residents want a clean, safe, friendly community in which to live.
This stunning home and landscaping located on
Carrollwood Meadows Drive wins the Yard of the Month
for April 2015. The clean landscaping along with nicely
trimmed islands and showing a variety of palm trees
make this home shine. This home was nominated by
someone in the Meadows. If you see a home/landscaping
that catches your eye and really stands out from the rest,
why not consider nominating the home for yard of the
