Green purchasing can also mean not buying things you don’t need. By educating yourself about the products you buy, you can make a difference in protecting the environment. How does my purchase make a difference? Your purchasing choices are affected by your children. You buy groceries and other items based on your children’s likes and dislikes, and might even buy a car with input from your children. Friends also listen to what you have to say when they decide what to buy. Use your influence to help others shop smart and protect the environment. Buying "green" lets companies know that you care about the environmental impact of the products you buy. Why would a big corporation care what you think? Because your current and future purchasing power is extremely important to them. In fact, companies spend $12 billion a year marketing their products to you. Shopping “green” sends a message to the companies—that you care about the environment, and you’re not afraid to use your buying power to prove it. How many times can aluminum cans be recycled? Aluminum cans are one of the best materials when it comes to recycling, since there is no limit on the number of times aluminum can be recycled. Consequently, aluminum is a valuable commodity, and is four times more valuable than other recyclable materials, according to The Aluminum Association. The Aluminum Association also points out that aluminum is recycled very quickly, with one aluminum can being made into another in as little as 60 days from the time a consumer returns it for processing. Not surprisingly, the recycling rate for aluminum cans is high compared to other recyclables. Currently, 65% of cans in the U.S. are recycled. Did you know? For every 42 notebooks made with 100 percent recycled paper, one tree is saved.* *Source: epa.gov/osw/education 4 http://activenet.active.com/perris • spring/summer 2013 • city news Special Events Firecracker 30 & Sky Concert Fireworks Spectacular at the Perris Auto Speedway Thursday, July 4, 2013 Front gates open at 3:00PM Race car qualifying begins at 6:00PM • Race begins at 7:00PM Sky Concert Fireworks Spectacular begins at 9:00PM Save the date ...
