reetings! I find it very hard
to believe that I am sitting
here at my kitchen table
writing the Executive Message for the last Points of Purchase
of the 2014/15 program year. It seems
like I was just writing the message
for the opening PoP a few weeks ago!
This year has flown by and was packed
with memorable events. Your Board of
Directors, Committee Chairs & Members and volunteers started working last
summer to put together a program that
was informative, educational and hopefully fun.
We started off the year with a talk
by members of the Paranormal Consulting and Investigations Group of NJ
and the history of the Secret Service;
an engrossing discussion with Jack
Shaughnessy, a former agent. Our October breakfast meeting featured a hotel
evacuation (and who doesn’t love that!).
ISM NJ presented the most successful
Women & Leadership Conference ever
in Jersey City and November brought
our annual combined meeting with the
APICS North Jersey chapter
Before we knew it the holidays
came and went and we were right
back at it in January with social media
lessons learned by PSE&G during
Superstorm Sandy and a discussion of
corporate cultures. February gave us a
pair of Rutgers Professors and our annual joint meeting with Central Jersey
APICS. March brought an incredibly
successful full day Supply Management

2 ISM-NJ June Newsletter
Forum at Princeton University. Your
forum committee outdid themselves
with a deep dive into cyber security and
a look into the future of procurement
and supply management. The bar is set
really high for next year! April featured
a visit with the Purchasing Professionals
of Benjamin Moore at their North Jersey Headquarters and May our annual
Supplier Diversity Fair.
If that were all that happened it
would be a packed year. But the dinner meetings and forums were just the
beginning. Our affiliate hosted dozens
of courses, webinars and programs and
a small army of dedicated volunteers
worked tirelessly to make it all happen!
Many of them ventured out to Arizona
for the 100th ISM International Conference. They chose the learning track that
interested them most and picked up a
few affiliate awards along the way. Just
rewards for their hard work!
Now we arrive at the end of another
great program year and come together
at our Crystal Awards Banquet to honor
two deserving leaders of Procurement in
New Jersey. Our Crystal Award grows
in notoriety and prestige every year and
the list of honorees reads like a Who’s
Who in New Jersey business over the
past 20 years.
After a short break, your Board of
Directors and volunteers will be right
back to work planning programs and educational opportunities for the 2015/16
year. If you avail yourself of the diverse
program offerings offered by the ISM
NJ, remember to thank one of the many
volunteers that give of their time and
talent to make the ISM NJ affiliate a
leader among all the groups around the
country. They are proud of their efforts
and rightfully so! If you do not avail
yourself of these programs ……..What
are you waiting for!
On behalf of your Board of Directors and the countless volunteers that
keep our affiliate not just running but
growing and excelling, I’d like to wish
all our members and their families a
safe, happy and restful summer. We’ll
be ready for you in the fall.

Rick Houtz is Vice President of
Procurement and Business Services for
NNI, the US affiliate of Danish-based
Novo Nordisk A/S, a global healthcare
company that employs over 40,000
people in 75 countries worldwide. With
over 17 years of professional experience, Rick brings a wealth of leadership, change management, procurement
knowledge and strategic insight to NNI. Rick started with NNI in 2012 and led
the execution of the procurement transformation program, creating a more
strategic-minded team and approach. This engendered a stronger interface
with key stakeholders, promoted more
transparent, straightforward processes
and enabled increased value contributions across the business enterprise. Rick also led his team to execute
against an ambitious opportunity plan
and successfully delivered over 3% savings on total spend in 2014; while doubling the spend professionally sourced
over a two year time-frame. Additionally, his team developed and executed
category strategies with full cooperation
and collaboration from key stakeholders across 12 key spend areas. Rick is
very focused on talent acquisition and
colleague development in which he
coaches his team to support the growth
of the function. In September 2014, Rick assumed additional responsi-
bilities for facilities, security, fleet and
travel. Prior to joining NNI, Rick has
regional and global procurement experience with companies such as, Becton
Dickenson, Pfizer and IBM.
Tina Trueba is the Executive Director of Global Strategic Sourcing and
Americas Shared Services for Celgene
Corporation. In this role, Tina is accountable for developing the strategy
and driving the global business solutions for contracting, supplier management and financial operations for $3B
of spend annually.
Prior to joining Celgene, Tina was
the VP of Finance at InventivHealth
responsible for global financial shared
services enabling speed, customer
service, quality and synergies across the
portfolio while partnering with the business leaders to grow the enterprise from
$700M to $2B in less than 18 months.
She led company-wide payroll, accounts payable, purchasing and record
to report functions driving best in class
processes positioning the company for
outsourcing relationships. In addition
she implemented Oracle HFM and
Essbase platforms enabling external
reporting and corporate financial consolidations for 140 legal entities in 50
countries.
Tina joined Inventiv Health from
Avaya where she was responsible for
leading the restructuring management
office for the Silverlake/TPG privately
held portfolio company, Avaya, and
delivered $300M of incremental cost/
cash opportunities in 2009/2010. She
reported directly to the chief operating officer as his chief of staff and led
a variety of enterprise-wide initiatives
focused on cost reduction and asset
optimization in areas including corporate overhead, real estate, manufacturing and provisioning. She began her
career at Avaya in 2007 as a Divisional
CFO for a $2.5B Division representing
50% of Avaya’s revenue and 30% of
EBITDA. During her 20+ year career,
Tina has held several senior level positions within accounting, finance, global
business services and sales operations.
Tina received her MBA in Finance
from Fairleigh Dickinson University and her undergraduate degree in
Accounting from Rutgers University.
Tina is an avid traveler and enjoys
exploring new places. In addition to
spending time with her family, Tina
indulges her passion for giving back by
participating on the board of directors
for The KidKind Foundation, a charity
geared toward teaching children and
their communities about the power of
kindness and good character.
