A Publication of Riverside Avenue Christian Church ( Disciples of Christ) April 20, 2015 YOUTH SUNDAY APRIL 26, 2015 10:50 a.m. Join us on this special Sunday as the youth of Riverside lead us in an out-of-this world worship service. A Disciples of Christ Church “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.” Come, meet our special Visitors. Reba Barrington -Disciples of Christ Statement of Identity RACC Mission Statement The Mission of Riverside Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is to be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps “to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) An Open and Affirming Congregation 2841 Riverside Avenue Jacksonville, FL 32205 (904) 389-1751 www.jaxdisciples.com Kent Dorsey Minister Marilyn Parrish Minister of Music Kelly Paterno Director of Arts and Youth Ministries SUNDAY WORSHIP SCHEDULE: Worship 8:30 & 10:50 a.m. Sunday School 9:45 a.m. A STEPHEN MINISTRY CHURCH A WALK TO EMMAUS CHURCH Reba Barrington, much loved child caregiver at Riverside Avenue Christian Church passed away on Saturday, April 18th, after a long illness. Reba cared for the children of RACC in our church nursery, and in many members’ homes for 22 years. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 23rd, at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL, 32073. We will celebrate her life and all she gave to our children and their families with a memorial service and reception this Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. here at Riverside. Memorials may be made to Riverside Avenue Christian Church or the Jacksonville Humane Society. Volume 62 Number 16 THE GREAT UNDERWEAR CHALLENGE The Great Underwear Challenge will fund new underwear for men, women and children living without this basic clothing garment. While every year DESC distributes $10,000 of new socks and underwear in downtown Jacksonville, unfortunately this budget only affords 2 new pairs of underwear per person. It is hoped that the Great Underwear Challenge will raise $25,000 to provide each person with a week’s worth of new underwear. Riverside, as a Super Hero Team, is raising donations that will be used to purchase underwear of all shapes and sizes. We invite you and your family, friends and co-workers to help us toward this goal. A gift of $50 will allow us to purchase four dozen pairs of boys’ underwear and $138 will purchase 20 dozen pairs of women’s socks! Through our partnerships DESC can purchase new underwear at a greater discount than the general public. Join us on Tuesday, May 12th, at the Avondale’s Mellow Mushroom from 5:30-8:00 p.m., bring your donations, and enjoy good food and fellowship.
