The Circuit Rider
First United Methodist Church of Piedmont
October, 2014
Volume 10
October is our month for Stewardship Emphasis. Our theme for this emphasis is “the Power of One”.
Each of us has a role to play. Each of us has the ability to make a difference. Each of us is called by God
to be faithful with all we have been entrusted. And when each of us does our part, together the church can
accomplish amazing things for the Kingdom of God. If you haven’t already, everyone should be receiving
a letter introducing our stewardship emphasis soon. We are asking everyone to first pray and seek God’s
guidance as we consider our financial commitments for 2015. Over the next three weeks we will talk
about it in our worship services and a follow up letter will arrive later in the month with a commitment
card. Then, on November 2, All Saints Sunday, we will ask everyone to turn in their commitment cards
during worship. Again, please pray and seek God’s direction for you and your household. To reference
Jesus’ image from Luke 10; the field before us in Piedmont is bursting with potential. Pray that the workers, and the resources for the workers, will be made available so that the harvest might be brought in.
We will be having a “Safe Sanctuaries” training on Sunday Oct 19, at 4:30 pm. It is mandated by both our
Annual Conference and our insurance provider that all people who work with youth and children, whether
paid or volunteer, take part in this training. Please make this a priority on your calendar. The training will
only take about an hour and is free of cost.
Our Children’s Ministry Fall Festival will be Sunday October 26, at 4:00 pm. Thank you to all who have
stepped up and contributed both time and resources to this event. Because of your generosity we will be
able to make this a truly fun and memorable time for our children. There are still a few items needed,
which you can find on the back table in the church lobby if you’d like to contribute further.
Grace. Peace & Joy,
Randy Wade
This Friday, October 17, is the Lock-In. As of now, Mid-High will be sent home at midnight because I
have not received any volunteers for the 1am-3am and 5am-7am shifts. Let me know by tomorrow evening (Wed) if you want to change this outcome.
Sunday, October 19 at 4:30 we will have a Safe Sanctuary training for all volunteers who work with youth
or children - including chaperones, SS teachers, small group leaders, etc. It is required. Please make an
effort to be there, as it is unknown when we will be able to schedule a make up date.
Wednesday, October 22 Mid High students will host a church Taco Meal as a camp fundraiser. We need
monetary donations to offset the cost of food. If each parent did $20 we would profit from the meal. If
you can donate, please give it to me or Mary Kay in the church office ASAP.
Jenise has agreed to work in the kitchen, but we will need students to help with meal prep, serving and
clean up.
Thank you & God Bless,
Carrie Helm
