H.D. Jacobs Student Announcements May 4, 2015 IMPORTANT SENIOR INFORMATION AVID Attention seniors! Are you staying in the area next year? Are you interested in working with people and kids? AVID tutor positions will be available next year at our middle and high schools in the district. This is a great opportunity to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, around your school or other work schedules. If you are interested apply by going to the d300 website and go to Departments, Human Resources, Employment Opportunities, Extra Pay, and then Hourly. See Mrs. Van Horn with questions. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS We are currently looking for high school students who are interested in mentoring elementary or middle school students next year. Volunteers meet weekly for ONE hour after school to help with homework, play games, or make crafts. You must have your own transportation to the school site. Applications are available in the Counseling th Office and have a deadline of May 8 . COUNSELING Summertime Employment Opportunity: Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center is seeking lifeguards to work at their Crystal Lake and Huntley locations this summer! To be eligible, you must be a certified lifeguard and at least 16 years of age. An application must be submitted online. Please stop by the Counseling Office to pick up more information about the certification training available in the area and to pick up the online link for the job application. ESPY AWARDS BANQUET rd Attention Senior Athletes! This is your last chance to get your RSVP in for the 3 Annual Eagle Sports Performance of the Year or ESPY Awards Banquet. If you are planning on attending, you must let Mrs. Peas in the Athletics Department know NO LATER THAN Wednesday, May 6th. The Jacobs Booster Club will cover the cost of dinner for the athletes. Parents and siblings are encouraged to attend at a cost of $10.00 per person. The banquet will be held at Jacobs High School in the Competition Gym on th Thursday, May 13 starting at 6:00 pm. Varsity Baseball is the only sport with an event that day and players are encouraged to join the banquet following the completion of their game. JACOBS SOFTBALL TEAMS Attention Golden Eagles! The Jacobs Softball Team’s Annual Pink Out Game will be played TODAY, Monday, May th 4 at 4:30pm at the Varsity Softball Field. There will be a bake sale and all proceeds will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation! Come support our lady eagles as we take on Crystal Lake South Tonight! We hope to see you there! Music Industry Club's Spring Rock the Mic is on Tuesday, May 5th behind the Algonquin Area Public Library. Come on down to our last show of the year, starting at 4pm, to hear amazing music acts, eat some candy, and win some prizes! NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK th May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Did you know that approximately 92.4% of teachers spend their own money on their students or classrooms? They do this because they care about students and are passionate about their jobs. Take a moment to thank a teacher for going that extra mile… NURSES OFFICE Graduating seniors: PLEASE J remember to have your parents pick up any medications you may have on file in the nurses office by the May 29th. SCHOLARSHIPS th Algonquin Garden Club: The deadline for the Algonquin Garden Club scholarship has been extended to May 11 . Applications are available in the Counseling Office. Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Aspiring Animation Professional: Scholarship Program offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship. SPECIAL OLYMPICS A big congratulations goes out to the Special Olympics Track & Field team for their successful showing at the Regional, 25 team State Qualifying meet yesterday at Lake Zurich High School. All three 4x100 relay teams did well, with two of them qualifying to go down State by winning the Gold medal! In individual events, our athletes won other medals & awards, including 9 more State-qualifying Gold’s. Say congrats to our Superstars when you see them today. STACY KUHN GOLF OUTING “Stacy Rocks” Scramble Golf Tournament to benefit Stacy Kuhn and Family. See attached form. STRIKE OUT CANCER Do you have a family member, aunt, uncle, friend with cancer and want to help them but don’t know how? Do you like baseball? The first annual Jacobs High School “Strike Out Cancer Baseball Day” through the Jason Motte Foundation pits the Conant Cougars varsity, sophomore and freshmen baseball teams against the Jacobs Golden th Eagles on Saturday, May 9 ; first game is at 9am. Free food and drinks, prizes, contests AND the Donut Guy will there in the morning. Come on out to watch some great baseball and make a donation to Strike Out Cancer. STUDENT COUNCIL Attention all students interested in joining large Student Council or wanting to take a leadership role in Student Council during the 2015-2016 school year!!! Please stop by Student Services to pick up a pink or blue form to have completed and turned in to Mrs. Benson in room 208. All applications must be turned in by NO LATER than Friday, th May 8 . Executive Board Interviews will be set up for the middle of May. STUDENT SERVICES GOLDEN EAGLES PLEASE REMEMEBER TO CARRY YOUR SCHOOL ID WITH YOU! YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE IT ON YOU AND CARRY IT WITH YOU EVERYDAY. NOT HAVING YOUR ID WILL RESULT IN A $5 REPLACEMENT. Students if you arrive late to school after 8.15, please remember to report to Student Services to sign in. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary consequences. Remember to be on time Golden Eagles! Attention students when arriving late please make sure you have your ID out. You will be asked for your ID when entering the building. All students arriving late must use door 2. Please do not use Main Entrance when arriving late. If you do not have an ID please stop by Student Services. TRANSCRIPTS Senior Final Transcripts: Seniors it’s that time to start sending your final transcripts to your future college/university. To complete this process please visit parchment (www.parchment.com ). Please select “Hold grades” to ensure that your final transcripts get sent out after the semester. College athletes, make sure you remember to send a copy to the NCAA Eligibility center as well. Also please remember that fees can hold your transcripts, so make sure you don’t have fees on your account before you leave.
