AVID
Attention seniors! Are you staying in the area next year? Are you interested in working with people and
kids? AVID tutor positions will be available next year at our middle and high schools in the district. This is a great
opportunity to work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, around your school or other work schedules. If you are
interested apply by going to the d300 website and go to Departments, Human Resources, Employment
Opportunities, Extra Pay, and then Hourly. See Mrs. Van Horn with questions.
AVID STUDENT OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to the students who were chosen by the AVID Site Team as “AVID Student of the Month.” These
students continuously model what Jacobs High School expects of its AVID students. They demonstrate
determination, leadership, ownership, responsibility, academic success, consistent work ethic, commitment, and

great character. This month’s students of the month are: 9 grade-Brandon Martinez, 10 grade-Alex Pena, 11

grade-Monica Lavrisa, and 12 grade-Jessica Barber.
BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS
We are currently looking for high school students who are interested in mentoring elementary or middle school
students next year. Volunteers meet weekly for ONE hour after school to help with homework, play games, or
make crafts. You must have your own transportation to the school site. Applications are available in the Counseling

Office and have a deadline of May 8 .
COUNSELING
Summertime Employment Opportunity: Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center is seeking lifeguards to work at their
Crystal Lake and Huntley locations this summer! To be eligible, you must be a certified lifeguard and at least 16
years of age. An application must be submitted online. Please stop by the Counseling Office to pick up more
information about the certification training available in the area and to pick up the online link for the job
application.

ESPY AWARDS BANQUET

Attention Senior Athletes! This is your last chance to get your RSVP in for the 3 Annual Eagle Sports Performance
of the Year or ESPY Awards Banquet. If you are planning on attending, you must let Mrs. Peas in the Athletics
Department know today.
The Jacobs Booster Club will cover the cost of dinner for the athletes. Parents and siblings are encouraged to
attend at a cost of $10.00 per person. The banquet will be held at Jacobs High School in the Competition Gym on

Thursday, May 13 starting at 6:00 pm. Varsity Baseball is the only sport with an event that day and players are
encouraged to join the banquet following the completion of their game.
FCCLA
Attention FCCLA members! Just a reminder that we have a meeting after school today and will be cooking! See you

FRENCH CLUB
Bonjour French Club! Join us for our last meeting of the year this Friday at 3pm in Room 129. We will be having
elections and then leaving for our end-of-year bistro trip! If you have any questions or are interested in running for
e-board for next year, see Mrs. Schlimgen!
GREEN EAGLES
Attention Green Eagles, the field trip to Veterans acres has been cancelled and the regular meeting will be in room
214 as another meeting is being held in 109. Members should go to 214 after school.

LIBRARY
Seniors- please have all textbooks and novels returned by the end of the week. You will be charged for anything
that you do not return to the library.
NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Did you know that a teacher’s contract day does not include time spent at home planning lessons or grading
student work? Work at home can range from one hour in the evening planning the next day’s lesson or 16 hours
on the weekend grading dozens of essays. Take a moment today to thank your teachers for going ABOVE AND

Algonquin Garden Club: The deadline for the Algonquin Garden Club scholarship has been extended to May 11 .
Applications are available in the Counseling Office.
Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are
interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited post-secondary school or college. Interested students can

on it. Deadline is June 1, 2015.
Aspiring Animation Professional: Scholarship Program offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000
scholarship. This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an
accredited post-secondary school or college. Interested students can visit our website:

STRIKE OUT CANCER
The Jason Motte Foundation in conjunction with Conant and Jacobs High School baseball teams is proud to

sponsor a “Strike Out Cancer Baseball Day” on Saturday, May 9 . Game times are 9am for Sophomore and
Freshmen teams, 11:30am for Varsity and Freshmen and 2pm for the JV team. Come on out for some free food,
drinks, prizes, raffles, and pitch/hit/run/radar gun competitions. And you will have a chance to donate to the
Jason Motte Foundation, whose mission is to provide comfort and care where there is a need for those affected,
either directly or indirectly, by cancers of all kinds. Let’s Strike Out Cancer together.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Attention all students interested in joining large Student Council or wanting to take a leadership role in Student

Students if you arrive late to school after 8.15, please remember to report to Student Services to sign in.
Failure to do so will result in disciplinary consequences. Remember to be on time Golden Eagles!

Attention students when arriving late please make sure you have your ID out. You will be asked for your
ID when entering the building. All students arriving late must use door 2. Please do not use Main
Entrance when arriving late. If you do not have an ID please stop by Student Services.
TRANSCRIPTS
Senior Final Transcripts: Seniors it’s that time to start sending your final transcripts to your future
college/university. To complete this process please visit parchment (www.parchment.com ). Please select “Hold
grades” to ensure that your final transcripts get sent out after the semester. College athletes, make sure you
remember to send a copy to the NCAA Eligibility center as well. Also please remember that fees can hold your
transcripts, so make sure you don’t have fees on your account before you leave.
WELLNESS CLUB
The next meeting of the Wellness Club will be today in room 228 from 3:05-4 PM. Please join us as we will be
working on Studying Tips for the upcoming final exams. See Mrs. Mr. Glenn in Social Studies or Ms. Kersten if you
have any questions.
