The Brotchie Bulletin Term 1 Wednesday 1st April 2015 Message from the Principal…… Term 1 is just about over, way too quickly. It is great to see the children now making friendships and knowing other children’s names. They are very familiar with our routines and rules. They love going to the library each week, they are developing independence at routine times such as lunch and are loving their group times with their teachers. We are getting excited for term 2 and have more fun events for the children including our art gallery excursions and environment days! One of the highlights of term 2 is our Art Gallery Excursions. Across term 2 all the children will attend one of our excursions. Our policy on excursions here at John Brotchie is taking small groups of children. This means that the excursion is safer, more enjoyable and really allows us to talk to the children and extend on their learning while they are at the Art Gallery. On each of the Art Gallery excursions we take 3 educators from John Brotchie – Annette, Rebecca and Kath or Glenda. We would love parent helpers on the excursion days however we cannot take younger siblings with us. If you are interested in helping you can check with Joanne in the office what day your child will be attending and see if you are available on that day. We will also be starting our visits to Botany School Kindergarten classes in Term 2. During terms 2 and 3 each group will get the opportunity to visit and participate in Kindergarten class activities. This is a great way for the children to prepare for their transition to school. Some times children can be anxious about the unknown, so these visits allow the children to find out what school is all about and become more comfortable in a larger school environment. I hope you all have a safe and relaxing Easter holiday. We will see you back on Tuesday 21st April. Monday of the first week back is a Staff Professional Development Day and the staff will be involved in compulsory training including First Aide, Anaphylaxis and Child Protection. Rebecca Andrews Election Day Cake Stall – A big thank you to all the families that baked for our cake stall. We had lots of lovely cakes, slices and biscuits to sell on the day. Another big thank you to all the parent helpers who came to help run the stall. It was a long day but very successful. The cake stall raised over $1400 Easter Raffle The Easter Raffle was drawn on Monday. We had so many donations that we had 40 lucky winners!! The winners of our 6 major prizes were: Maxwell, Layla, Lisa Hore (Giana’s Family), Sophie. F, Marcus and Keith (from the Election Day!) Congratulations to all our winners, I hope you enjoy your eggs. The raffle was also a great success, we raised $1700 Thank you for donating the eggs and selling the raffle tickets. Immunisation Records With recent changes to the Public Health Act child care facilities cannot enrol a child unless they are fully vaccinated for their age. This means that you need to keep your child’s immunisation records up to date for us. When your child turns 4 years old they are due for an immunisation. Please as soon as you receive your updated Immunisation Record you need to bring a copy into John Brotchie. Staff News Kath will be taking Long Service Leave at the beginning of Term 2. She will be enjoying a European Holiday over the Easter Break and for the first 3 weeks of term. Kath will be replaced by Rebecca and Kris. Kris is an experienced Early Childhood teacher who worked previously at John Brotchie until she went on maternity leave.
