Please be aware of hazards within the woodland when viewing. DESCRIPTION Cliver Wood and its current coniferous crops were originally established by the Duchy of Cornwall. It now contains a mixture of mature and semi-mature conifers, the vast majority of which are either western hemlock or Douglas fir. These trees appear to have grown well on the site and a new woodland owner may expect a tranche of timber income in the next 5 to 10 years subject to felling licence approval. Around 5 hectares (12 acres) of Japanese larch has been felled recently, due to a Health Plant Notice served because of Phytophthora ramorum. These areas are currently bare and it is understood there is no planting liability. This offers the new owner the opportunity to influence the future species direction of the woods. There is an extensive and well-made network of tracks that have been used for previously felling and clearing and will stand any future works in good stead. This is a very private and quiet woodland, the watercourses which run along the boundaries only amplify this feel. The wood is designated by the Forestry Commission as a Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS) as shown on the Forestry Commission’s Land Information Search map. This designation indicates the land has been under continuous tree cover since before 1600 AD but where the former tree cover has been replaced, often with non-native trees.
