Course Selection Process for Students currently in 8th
Grade and returning to Agora for 2015-2016 School Year
Your Family Coach will be working with you through March 9th-April 17th to verify that you intend to return to Agora
next year for 2015-2016 and if so, they will be assisting with course selection for 9th grade. Please refer the Agora High
School Catalog for the 2015-2016 for course descriptions and for more information regarding the High School
curriculum, course prerequisites, credits, and graduation requirements.
1. Core Content Courses (Math, English/Language Arts, Science, History) will be based on your 8th grade teachers
recommendations. 9th grade students will be assigned the required Physical Education/Health course.
 Family coach will verify what content courses were recommended for you.
 Courses will be from the K12 High School Curriculum.
 Grade 9 course requirements and platform are set and sequenced, which is why the scheduling of these
content courses are recommended by 8th grade teachers.

2. Family coaches will assist 8th Grade student with choosing 1 or 2 course electives for 9th grade.
 9th Grade Elective Options include:
 Introduction to Art
 Introduction to Music
 Spanish I
 Spanish II
 French I
 French II
 Computer Literacy
 Computer Fundamentals
 Drivers Safety
 Refer to the Agora High School Catalog for the 2015-2016 for course descriptions
3. Family coaches will also be asking parents if they want their student to take “Problem Solving and
Teamwork” in addition to all of their 9th grade content and elective courses.
Course Description:
Problem Solving and Teamwork: Through close consideration of Agora’s Core Values and Core Learning
Skills, students learn critical life skills for working with others, both in school and the real world. Learning
centers around three domains: personal and social competencies, communication, and thinking skills.
Students work in collaborative teams to learn how to speak and listen; inquire, research, and reason;
improve learning abilities; and think creatively to solve problems. They’ll also be challenged to problem
solve independently, building self-respect, responsibility, and independence.
Course Length: Full year
Delivery Method: Synchronous/Asynchronous
4. Once the course selection phase has been finalized, students will receive a copy of their schedule for their 9th
grade year.
5. What do I do if I have questions about course selection?
Please contact your family coach first, they will be your point person to assist with course selection for next
year. They will be assisting you through this process during their conferences with you from March 9th-April 17th.

selecting courses.
