Thank you to our parents and community for your support throughout the year!
I need to ask for parent help with the dress code. With the warmer weather we are seeing more and more dress
code violations. Please help monitor what students are wearing in the morning as they leave for the school day.
We ask that students come to school showing no undergarments. T-shirts with any logo dealing with drugs, alcohol
or weapons are in violation of district policy as well as school policy.
Our Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on the evening of April 16th. This is the final conference day of the
year to check student progress as we make a final push toward the end of the semester.
The window of time given to us by the Colorado Department of Education for Science testing is April 14 th to May
2nd. We will be testing April 14th, 15th, 16th, and 21st. This is for our 8th grade students only as 9th graders are not
tested in Science. With smaller numbers of students testing, we will continue school classes, days, and times as
normal. Students will be informed on what day they will be testing through advisory, and the schedule
will be posted for student viewing.
April 20th begins our Spring Fling week. This is to celebrate the great year we have had! We will wrap up that week
on Friday with a pep assembly with a dance following on Saturday.
The final round of PARCC testing in late April and early May will put us in a schedule similar to March testing. To
keep us in sync with FMHS, we will have release days for testing on April 27th, 28th, and 29th. We will also have a
final release day May 4th in which we will do our final group of tests along with AP testing. The schedule has 4 days
of school in which a testing group will come in each day to test (Monday, April 27th through Wednesday, April 29th,
and Monday, May 4th). All other students will not be at school except for their testing day. One exception to this is
our Advanced Placement students who will be taking the Advanced Placement Tests during this time.
Busses will run on a regular schedule. Career Center and WCCC will have classes for students not scheduled to test
on any given day. Students are encouraged to attend as long as they are not testing.
This schedule allows for the least amount of time away from normal instruction with the large numbers of students
that we have and the limited amount of computers available in the day for testing. This will ensure that we are able
to complete required testing within the given window of time. In advisory, students will receive the schedule for
their testing day, group they are in, and testing site for their round of testing.
Thanks Again!
Sincerely,
Jason Plantiko

Integrity Respect Ownership Achievement Responsibility
Does what you wear affect how well you work?
Quite possibly. We’ve all had the experience of feeling more motivated and focused when we’re dressed up for
work—whether that means donning a suit when our usual office dress is khakis and a golf shirt or, for those who
work from home, simply getting out of pajamas. But new research shows that wearing certain items of clothing
identified with certain qualities could help improve performance, too…
Clothes may not make the man, the saying goes. But as the authors write, “they do hold a strange power over
their wearers.”
McGregor, Jena. "New study: What you wear could affect how well you work."
Washington Post. Web. 19 Mar. 2014.
Spring has sprung, and as the weather warms it can sometimes become difficult for all of us to stay focused on
work. As we finish 4th quarter students have end-of-term papers and projects to complete, not to mention final
exams, all of which can have a significant impact on their overall final grade.
Research indicates that appropriate school dress has a positive impact on performance and behavior. To support
achievement and maintain a positive learning environment for all staff and students we do not allow clothing that
is:
Provocative or immodest
Contains profanity or obscene/lewd text or graphics
Promotes alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or weapons
Advocates sex or sexual activity
Specifically, when dressing in the morning, here are some tips:
Gentlemen Cats, NO…
Muscle shirts
Pants that sag excessively
Lady Wildcats, NO…
Clothing that exposes undergarments
Clothing that is transparent
Low cut tops that expose cleavage
Strapless tops, spaghetti straps, one shoulder tops
Short mini-skirts or short shorts (finger-tip rule applies)
All Wildcats…. NO clothing that exposes the torso, including side, back, or middle.
(Please check your Student Handbook – this is not an exhaustive list.)
Fruita 8/9 staff and administration reserve the right to require that students modify their dress if it is deemed inappropriate. Please
note that, in the event a student fails to correct a dress code violation as requested by a staff member, disciplinary action may be
applied.
Our goal is a successful and positive finish to the school year. The support of students and parents in ensuring consistent compliance
with Fruita 8/9 Dress Code expectations is greatly appreciated!

What Can My Child Do with Google Apps for Education?
District 51 students automatically have free a Google Apps for Education account that’s already been set up. Many of our Language Arts teachers have already
used this wonderful resource with their students to enhance their educational experience here at Fruita 8-9. This cloud-based program has many benefits for our students,
including:
Access and save files from any computer with Internet access—no more forgetting flash
drives!
Collaborate on group projects in real-time through the use of “shared” files and comment/
chat tools
Because it’s web-based, no more worries about whether your home software matches the
district’s when your child is doing homework.
…And so much more!

VISITOR PROCEDURES - PARENTS/GUARDIANS VISITATION
The Fruita 8/9 School has a large student body and realizes that there are times when parents/guardians may need to
contact a student during the day on an informal or non-emergency basis. To maintain security within the school, we
request that all parents/guardians report to the Main Office and show proper identification (this name must appear as
a contact on the student’s record) to request contact with their student. The student will then be summoned from his/
her class. Visitors shall be required to check in at the Main Office and show proper identification and reason for being
at the school and shall wear nametags identifying them as visitors (Board Policy ECA/ECAB).
NO STUDENT VISITORS ARE ALLOWED DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
LEAVING CAMPUS FOR LUNCH

note that when leaving for lunch, only their lunch wave will be excused. This is only for your student’s safety and for our
Secretary to keep track of attendance. Please no phone calls regarding permission to leave campus.
