Ulf Merbold, originally an experimental physicist, was selected among 2000 applicants to start the training as astronaut.
In 1983 he flew as the first Non-American on a US-spacecraft
on NASA’s Space Shuttle “Columbia”. Later, in 1992, he
participated in the “International Microgravity Laboratory”,
a mission on NASA’s Space Shuttle “Discovery” and became
the first ESA astronaut on the Russian space station MIR in
1994. On both missions he was responsible for numerous
experiments of scientific disciplines. In 2004 Ulf retired, since
then he has been involved in various charity programs.
John Black is one of the nation’s leading authorities on
Lean operations, consulting healthcare and manufacturing
organizations across North America. Most recently, John’s
consulting firm helped the Saskatchewan healthcare system
improve patient care and reduce defects by 75 percent for
an overall financial impact of $129 million, results praised
by the Minister of Health and Premier Brad Wall. He is the
author of three acclaimed books on Lean operations.
