Preparing the pen for injection
1.
Remove the closure cap.
2.
Get the injection needle
ready: remove the protective
foil.
3.
Screw the needle firmly onto the thread of the pen in a
clockwise direction and then remove the outer needle
protective cap.
4.
Before the first injection, check the solution for air
bubbles. If the injection solution contains no air
bubbles or only tiny air bubbles (that stick to the
glass wall), then you may continue to Step 8.
Should there be any larger air bubbles visible,
continue with Step 5.
Turn the injection knob
clockwise until you see
[•฀25] in the indicator.
If you happen to turn it too
far, then you should turn
it in the opposite direction
until [•฀25] appears.

Carefully jostle against the
reservoir so that the air
bubbles rise to the top.

Push the injection knob up
to the stop. A few droplets
will escape from the tip of
the needle.

Turn (do฀not฀push!) the injection knob in a clockwise direction
until you see the prescribed dose in the dosage indicator.

Disinfect the injection site and let the alcohol dry.
Recheck the dose that you have set.

Remove the inner needle cap
if you did not already do so
during the inspection for air
bubbles.

Stick the needle
perpendicularly into the
skin and push firmly on
the injection knob for
10฀seconds.
Continue฀to฀maintain฀pressure฀on฀the฀injection฀knob฀
as฀you฀withdraw฀the฀needle.
13.
The indicator will change to
[0]; that means the entire
dose was injected.
14.
Replace the outer needle
protective cap on the needle
and turn counterclockwise in
order to remove the needle.
15.
When you are finished, replace the closure cap.

Frequently asked questions
฀ What฀should฀I฀do฀if฀the฀solution฀is฀not฀clear฀
(discolored,฀turbid)฀or฀contains฀sediment?
You should not use GONAL-f® if there are any visible signs of
decomposition (discoloration, turbidity) or if the solution
contains any sediment.
฀ What฀should฀I฀do฀if฀have฀set฀the฀wrong฀dose?
If the dose indicated is not the prescribed dose, you should go
back to Step 8 and set the dose again.
฀ When฀I฀was฀setting฀the฀dose,฀I฀turned฀the฀injection฀
knob฀too฀far.฀What฀should฀I฀do?
Simply turn the injection knob in the opposite direction until
the correct dose indication appears.
฀ The฀Pen฀no฀longer฀contains฀enough฀solution฀for฀my฀
injection.฀What฀can฀I฀do?฀
Simply set your prescribed dose and inject the solution. If
there was too little solution in the Pen, the dosage indicator
will show฀ a฀ number฀ greater฀ than฀ zero after the injection.
This will correspond to the amount you need to inject with a
new Pen. If you do not have a new Pen, please contact your
physician right away.
This means that the entire dose was not administered. This
number corresponds to the dose that you now need to inject
with a new Pen. If you do not have a new Pen, please contact
your physician right away.
฀ What฀should฀I฀do฀if฀I฀forget฀to฀inject฀my฀dose฀for฀a฀
day?
Please contact your treating physician right away. Under no
circumstances should you administer a supplemental dose.
฀ Is฀it฀normal฀that฀a฀small฀residual฀amount฀is฀left฀in฀the฀
Pen฀after฀the฀injection?
When the Pen is used up, a small residual amount may be left
over in the Pen that cannot be injected.
฀ How฀should฀I฀store฀the฀Pen?
Prior to use, the Pen should be kept in the refrigerator. After
opening, the GONAL-f® Pen may be kept at room temperature
for 28 days (do฀not฀store฀above฀25°฀C฀and฀do฀not฀freeze).
Please note the day you first use the Pen on the label provided
for this purpose and attach this label to the Pen.
