Environmental Policy
At King’s Lynn Arts Centre we are committed to embedding environmental sustainability at the heart
of our business, both in our own ethos and in our commercial interactions externally. As an
organization we intend to raise awareness in our audience and to lead by example so as to evidence
sustainability to unlock new funding sources.
Our business
King’s Lynn Arts Centre is a cultural hub which aims to regenerate west Norfolk using arts and culture
and offering theatre, cinema, visual arts, workshops and social projects and events in and off site. Our
mission is to allow everybody access to the visual arts through free exhibitions as well as providing
education and providing projects aiding social inclusion.
King’s Lynn Arts Centre’s buildings are Grade 1 and 2 listed, and encompass 4 different gallery
spaces and outdoor spaces. King’s Lynn Arts Centre has a staff of 5 (3 full time and 2 creative
apprentices) and attracts ~20,000 people a year, presenting approximately 25 shows (18 exhibitions
and 20 social events).
Our impacts
We are committed to reducing the negative environmental impacts of our own activities, in particular
those relating to:



Our travel and transport
Our venue: energy (primarily from heating spaces), water (used for the garden), and food
(food waste deriving from café and workshop catering);
Our office operations: printing, IT.
Our commitments
We are committed to improving operational efficiency and reducing waste by:



Reducing energy consumption through low energy lighting in our galleries and use of sensors;
Decreasing our number of brochures and flyers printed and instead communicate more
digitally;
Creating compost from organic waste.
We are also committed to raising environmental awareness of our audience through workshops and
exhibitions as well as publically communicating our Environmental Policy and Action Plan.
Any other commitments you want to include e.g. compliance with environmental legislation, staff
wellbeing, community engagement etc.
This policy is reviewed on an annual basis at the end of our AGM by the General Manager. The policy
is supported by an Environmental Action Plan. Each year we update our action plan, based on our
environmental monitoring and measurement, a review of progress with our action plan from the
previous year and feedback from engaging with management and staff and other stakeholders. Our
action plan is reviewed and updated on an annual basis, and approved by management.
