Kingswood Elementary School–
A Title 1 School
Hello Kingswood Panthers!
As we continue to head toward summer vacation we need to continue to remind our students that we are still in session and that we need to continue to
maintain appropriate behavior. At Kingswood we stress character education
and focus on creating morally responsible citizens. With your reinforcement at
home and continued guidance at school, we can achieve this goal. Please remind your child that even though we have approximately 24 days of school left
the main focus should be on learning.
While we are speaking of the summer months, I want to relay some information in regards to the Extended School Year program (ESY). This year the
district is only offering ESY to those students in third grade who are Below Level in Reading. The hosting site for ESY will be Gibsonton Elementary and trans- .
portation will be provided by the district. If your child meets criteria, your 3rd
grade homeroom teacher will be sending home information for you to complete and return to the school. In addition, the only program that will be held
at Kingswood over summer break will be the HOST Program. Please contact
Ms. D. at 813-744-8234 extension 246 if you have any questions about the summer HOST program.

SCHOOL HOURS
School hours are 8:00 AM until
2:15 PM. Students not in their
classrooms and in their seats by
8:00 AM are considered tardy and
must come to the office for a late
pass. If your child is eating breakfast here at Kingswood, please
make sure they are at school in time
to eat and get to class by 8:00 AM.
Our staff begins serving breakfast at
7:30 AM. Parents dropping children
off after 8:00 AM must come to the
office and sign them in. Thank you
for your help with this matter. Remember to report your child’s
absence by calling our attendance line - 744-8234 option # 1 by
9:00 AM on the day of the absence.
Clinic News:
Medication should not be brought in
by students. Please do not send your
child to school with a fever, vomiting
or diarrhea. Please dress appropriately for the weather. It is a good idea to
send the student with a water bottle..
Thank you for your cooperation.
Please remember your valid driver’s
license, or state ID/passport when
visiting our school. You must check
in/out with the front office to enter the
school, between 8:00 AM and 3:30
PM.
FOR YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY
Children are NOT to arrive at school before 7:30 AM.
Teachers begin their duty at 7:30 AM and there is no supervision available prior to this time.
Breakfast is served at 7:30 AM. Our main concern is always the safety of our students;
UPCOMING EVENTS:
therefore, adherence to this policy is essential.
SAFETY NEWS—Master Deputy Ben Tillis
Summer Time is coming and residential burglary will be on the rise. Here are a few tips that are worth reading.
THINGS A BURGLAR DOES NOT TELL YOU
Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.
Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.
Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.
If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don’t let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it’s set.
That makes it too easy.
I always knock first. If you answer, I’ll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters, don’t take me up on it.
Do you really think I won’t look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, freezer and the medicine
cabinet.
Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and carry a rake. I do my best to never - ever look like a crook.
The two things I hate most: loud dogs and nosy neighbors!
I’m not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy alarm system and leave your house without setting it?
I love looking in your windows. I’m looking for signs that you’re home, and for flat screen televisions or gaming systems I’d like. I’ll
drive or walk through your neighborhood at night; you don’t close your blinds– I pick my targets.
To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to let in a little fresh air. To me, it’s an invitation.
If you don’t answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in.
Here’s a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids’ rooms.
You’re right: I won’t have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it’s not bolted down, I’ll take it with me. A loud TV or radio can be a
better deterrent than the best alarm system.
As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
