We also say goodbye and best wishes to our wonderful Educational Assistant Karie Lanji. Ms Lanji has
been with us since Christmas Break and has done a wonderful job supporting student learning needs.
We want to thank both of these ladies for everything they have done for our students and school. We
hope to work with them again in the future.
At the same time that we are saying our fond farewells, we get the opportunity to welcome back

Virtue of the Month – Truthfulness
What is Truthfulness?
Truthfulness is being honest in your words and actions. You don’t tell lies even to defend yourself. Don’t listen to gossip or prejudice.
See the truth for yourself. Don’t try to be more than you are to impress others. Be yourself, your true self.

Fun Fair News
King Traditional Fun Fair May 23, 2015
Fun Fair Planning is on its way. There is a lot that goes into making this day a great success. We will be looking for volunteers closer
to the date, but there are some things that everyone can do right now to help get things started. Below is a list of things that are
needed:
• New or gently used stuffed animals
• Halloween type candy
• Silent auction items (silent auction letters available at the office)
• Used books for the book sale
Items can be brought to the school and dropped off in the multipurpose room.

Satisfaction Survey 2014-2015
The Provincial Satisfaction Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents, teachers
and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual
schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.
In February, the Satisfaction Survey was administered to students in grades 4. We also need parents of these students to
participate in the survey. We encourage parents to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and
celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement.
We sent home a letter to parents of students in Grade 4 with a unique log-in number. If you need a new one, please let Mrs.
Antifaeff know. Surveys are anonymous.
Surveys must be completed by April 30, 2015.

Changing Schools?
In order to begin our planning for the 2015/2016 school year, we are gathering information on how many students will be leaving us
at the end of the year. We ask that families who are leaving (or are considering leaving) complete the bottom portion of this
newsletter and return it to the school (only for students currently in Grades K – 4).

Parents as Partners-Goal Corner
School Goal 2014-2015
Once again, this year our main school goal is centered on reading comprehension.
According to the BC Performance Standards for Reading:
By March/April in Grade Two, "fully meeting expectations" in Reading Comprehension means the student “reads a variety of short, simple
materials independently and with understanding. Work is generally accurate.”
The student:
• responses to comprehension questions or tasks are generally accurate and complete; may be vague or unclear in places
• accurately identifies main and supporting characters
• retells main events in correct sequence
• includes some details in answers and explanations
• makes basic inferences about characters (how they feel, why they act as they do) and events
You can support your Grade 2 child by asking these questions:
Before
• What clues did the pictures give you about the story?
• What do the illustrations tell you about the characters?
• What do you already know?
• What do you think will happen?
During
• Does that make sense?
• Does that sound right? Is that the way we say it?
• Does that look right?
• What do you think will happen next?
• What connections are you making as you read this part?
After
• Read the part where….
• Point to the words that were hard for you. How did you figure them out?
• What were some questions you asked yourself while you were reading?
• What questions do you want to ask the author?
• Tell about one big idea or piece of information you learned from reading this book.
Classroom Placement Requests
If you are looking to make a classroom placement request for next year, please review the process that will be located in our April 17th
newsletter. Please remember that, while we try to accommodate requests, we cannot guarantee that your request will be granted.
Character Abbotsford Visits KTES
We want to send a big thank you to Vijay Manuel (Vice Principal of ASIA Sumas Mountain) and Don Beer (Chief, Fire Rescue Service) for
taking time out of their busy schedules to come to one of our King Traditional staff meetings to talk about character education. We learned
about what Character Abbotsford is and how each of us can become a champion. We also reviewed all the ways we are being deliberate
and consistent about character education at KTES and looked for ways to become even more intentional.
To learn more about Character Abbotsford and become a champion, please visit http://www.characterabbotsford.com/
Also, if you want to learn more about implementing character in your life, Character Abbotsford will be hosting the Character Canada
National Conference on October 23-24, 2015.
You can register by clicking the link on the Character Abbotsford webpage.
