ARAMCO ASIA - JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: 1. Welding and Metallurgical Engineer Grade Code: BASIC FUNCTION: The role of the designated welding and metallurgical engineer is to conduct technical assessment to approve manufacturers of commodities under his discipline such as pipes, flanges and fittings. This will require the verification of manufacture’s plants technical capabilities and compliance with Saudi Aramco engineering standards and specifications. In addition, he will be leading investigations to evaluate approved manufacturers defective products or commodities, ensure corrective rectifications are taken, and implemented so these commodities meet Saudi Aramco standards and specifications requirements. The engineer will engage in supporting Aramco Asia inspection engineers in reviewing engineering requirements for procurements activities or factory acceptance testing, and supporting our Saudi Aramco projects through reviewing engineering packages or clarifying technical requirements. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: A. Prepare desk review material for new manufacturer’s approval. This includes the verification of manufacturer compliance with Saudi Aramco and qualifications such as certifications, standards and specifications. B. Conduct plant technical assessments to qualify new manufacturers, investigates plant deficiency, and issue corrective reports. C. Provide technical assistance to our existing projects or our Asia offices inspection engineers. D. Develop or review engineering scopes and engineering requests from Aramco Asia offices or Saudi Aramco. E. Provide technical surveys and analysis regarding manufactures capabilities and compliance with international standards and Saudi Aramco mandatory standards and requirements. F. Provide new technologies in his specialty to improve operation, energy or efficiency. G. Qualification of welding procedures and welders H. The engineer will engage in troubleshooting welding problem, reviewing heat treatment procedures, and conducting metallurgical failure analysis. I. Performing materials testing, evaluation and selection. J. Understanding the major manufacturing and forming processes such as forging, extrusion, cold working, hydroforming, etc. K. Basic understanding of NDT techniques. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A. A minimum of a BS degree in metallurgical or welding engineering. B. At least 10 years of hands-on experience in welding fabrication, materials engineering, materials selection and failure analysis, and manufacturing related to the oil and gas industry. C. Candidate must have been responsible for welding operations, selection of welding processes and consumables, qualification of welding procedure and personnel and resolution of welding problems. D. Experience in GTAW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW, and GMAW. E. Knowledge of carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steels, nickel and copper alloy systems. F. Experience with non-destructive testing of welds and materials (RT, UT, MPI, LPT, etc). G. Experience in all destructive testing of welds and materials including corrosion and fracture toughness. H. Candidate must have basic knowledge of materials and failure mechanisms in the O & G and petrochemical industries. I.
