“Cool Roofs and Sustainability”
Abstract:
Buildings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consume around 80% of the generated
electrical power. In many of these buildings the skin load is predominant; the
energy consumption can be significantly reduced by adopting simple energy
efficiency strategies such as Cool Roofs. Advances in energy efficient roofs such as
reflective roofs, green roofs, photovoltaic roofs, and radiant-transmitive barrier
systems (thermal mass) are discussed in this presentation. The presentation will
also shed light on the concept basis, types, benefits, and how to integrate them into
the current code roofing systems. Some example of Saudi Aramco projects using
Cool Roofs will be presented as well.
