Summer School Courses for Elementary
(K-5th Grade) Students
Kindergarten to Fifth Grade Remedial Courses
These classes are intended to provide additional instruction in math, reading, and writing for
students who receive remedial instruction as a Response to Intervention during the school
year. The courses are open to students based on teacher recommendation. Sessions will run
Monday through Thursday from June 8th to July 2nd. In order to register for these courses,
please consult with your child’s classroom teacher to see if the program is a fit for your
child. Please see the course descriptions and more detail below. Classes will be held at
Blackberry Creek Elementary School and John Shields Elementary School. Registration
can be completed on the Kaneland webstore beginning on March 16th, no refunds after
May 4th..

Kindergarten to Fifth Grade Summer Enrichment Camps
These courses are designed to provide exploration and enhancement opportunities for all
Kaneland students in a variety of content areas. The lessons taught in these courses will
extend the learning from the regular school year curriculum. The courses will be project-based
and utilized active hands-on learning. All courses are held Monday through Thursday at
Blackberry Creek School and John Shields Elementary School from June 8th to July 2nd
and registration can be completed on the Kaneland webstore beginning on March 16th,
no refunds after May 6th.. Please see descriptions below for more information and course
time.
Coders, Makers, Shakers- Oh My! - This course has a focus in STEM and critical thinking. The
students will use computers, collaboration and critical thinking to learn the basics of computer
coding. The class will be a mix of math, technology and just plain fun!

SuperFlex - Superflex is more than a superhero! It’s a curriculum designed to teach younger
(primarily 3rd-5th grade) students how to regulate their behaviors and become stronger social
problem solvers. The focus is on helping children become more socially aware and guiding
them in developing better social thinking and social problem solving skills, which provides the
foundation for better social emotional regulation. The emphasis is on “thinking” rather than
behavior change.

JumpStart to Middle School
JumpStart to Sixth Grade: This course will be held August 10h - 14h at Harter Middle
School
The intent of this course is to provide an opportunity for incoming sixth grade students to
explore Harter Middle School and learn the routines and expectations of middle school life
at Harter, as well as reduce anxiety associated with middle school transition. Students will
spend five days prior to the start of the school year getting to know the layout of Harter,
behavior expectations of students, locker use, and other key routines of the middle school.
Students will also have a chance to purchase PE uniforms, obtain bus
and schedule information days before other Harter students. Students will explore key
curricular concepts in order to get a jump on the academic life of a Harter Middle School
sixth grade student and have a successful first year of middle school!

Level (6-8th Grade) Students
Sixth to Eighth Grade Remedial/Learning Recovery Courses
The intent of these courses is to provide math, reading writing and study skills
intervention for students that are receiving remedial response to intervention services
during the school year, as well as students that fail to master content or do not earn a
passing grade in their courses during the school year. The courses are open to
students based on teacher and counselor recommendation.
The courses will run Monday through Thursday from June 8th to July 2nd In order to
register for these courses, please consult with your child’s classroom teacher,
counselor, or RTI Facilitator, Laurie Villalobos, to see if the program is a fit for your

Middle School Exploration Camps
These camps are designed to provide exploration and enhancement opportunities for all

Robotics for Everyone Level 1
A robotics and STEM experience for anyone who is curious about robotics, likes to problem
solve and find creative solutions. Using LEGO Mindstorms NXT sets, students will build
different robots and program them using student friendly computer software. No prior Lego
experience is required. Students will be taught everything they need to know during our
camps. Students can work individually or in teams of two —friends are welcome to sign up
together and can be partners.

French Camp
Want to learn a language used around the world?
Students will learn greetings, ABC’s, numbers, animals, colors and French
phrases. Using songs and videos students will enjoy getting introduced to the French
language and its culture.

Summer School Courses for High
School (9-12th Grade) Students
High School Credit Recovery
Credit recovery for grades 9-12 will be offered in selected core courses based on
student need or failure to earn credits during the school year. Each student can earn
only one half (0.5) credits in credit recovery summer school per subject. Each half credit
equals 64 seat hours, and successful mastery of content. Requirements are that a
student has already been enrolled in the course during the regular school year, and has
previously attempted the credit in the regular classroom setting. Courses will be offered
through online learning, with some customization, space permitting. Pass/Fail grades
earned in these courses appear on student transcripts. Students must work with their
counselor to be recommended and register. All courses will be held at Kaneland
High School, Monday through Thursday from June 8th to July 2nd Registration is
on the Kaneland webstore beginning on March 25th, no refunds after May
29th. Students can only miss 2 days.

High School Enrichment Courses
High school courses will be offered for credit on a selective basis. These courses will
be available to students who meet the requirements, even if the students have not
previously registered or attempted the credit. Each half credit equals 64 seat hours,
and successful mastery of content. All courses will be taught by teachers highly
qualified in the subject area, and the curriculum will be delivered in person in a
classroom setting, adhering to the course description book and Kaneland
curriculum. Grades earned in these courses appear on student transcripts. Students
must work with their counselor on their four year academic plan to insert these
courses. Please see the KHS course description booklet for detailed descriptions of the
courses. All courses will be held at Kaneland High School, Monday through
Thursday from June 8th to July 2nd Registration is on the Kaneland webstore
beginning on March 25th, no refunds after May 22nd. Students can only miss 2
days.

Summer Program will follow all rules and regulations set forth in the Kaneland Middle/High
