Len Kennett P.G.A. lakewoodmgc.lagolfclubs.com lakewoodmensgolfclub.com March/April 2015 “It’s great to win, but it’s also great fun to be in the thick of any truly well and hard fought contest against opponents you respect, whatever the outcome.” - Jack Nicklaus. “Fellow Men of The Wood” If you haven’t noticed we’re 3 months into the 2015 season, already! Our first 3 events, plus a General Membership Meeting, an Away Trip “Special Event” and the Northern Trust Open are in the books. It’s been a great start to the season. We’ve enjoyed some amazing “Winter/Spring” weather here on the West coast. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for our fellow countrymen living in Boston and all over the East side of this great country. So I suppose the “Golf Gods” really do look down in favor on the LMGC. That’s just fine with me. We’ve kicked off this year’s Edition of the “Presidents Cup” play, with the first 2 matches going out February 7th; and 11 matches the weekend of March 7th and 8th, (see the brackets on page 4). We began in earnest starting in March. The Club had a lot going on during February with Team Play, the Northern Trust Open at Riviera and then our Monthly event late in the month on the 28th, half the “President’s Cup field involved in some or all events. February’s Regular Monthly Event featured the Individual low-net format. For me it was a chance to be not so heavy on my partner Von Holt. Von carried me home in January with a real nice even par 36 on the back. After getting warmed up with a 45 on the front. I should probably share the proceeds from that effort with him, but us retired guys need the $$. We’re still working on fine-tuning the new Website page, but overall the feedback looks promising. As with anything that’s new it takes a little time and practise to get comfortable. With 157 signed-up for last month a full field for the 6–6–6. And the Club Championship is filling up fast. I’ll go out on a limb and guess most guys have it figured out. Also, would like send Props to Chuck Beauregard and Rob Unverzagt for their efforts in working to make the system userfriendly, and also Ray Bowling who made us a nice little shelf in the closet to hold our new computer out of harm’s way, along with a new light, so that I don’t hafta fumble around in the dark, when I’m looking for the vacuum cleaner! We enjoyed a brilliant General Membership Meeting and Joe Rubich provided a great spread and some very interesting entertainment. on Wednesday, March 18th. A free “build your own” taco bar, with 1 free drink ticket and a raffle ticket. Rice Rice picking up the Grand Prize. Entertainment provided by Teaching Pro Gene Hori as a guest speaker! Cheers! Yer Prez. Rocky... with an “R” Cheers! Lakewood Men’s Golf Club Some of you may already know me, but for those of you who don’t my name is Brianna Do. I was born in Long Beach, and have lived and grown up in the Lakewood area. I took my very first golf lesson here at Lakewood Country Club with none other than Mr. Mike McMonegal himself. I’m a UCLA graduate (I know there are a few Trojans fans in the club but we can all be friends! :) Currently I’m playing professional golf on the LPGA and Symetra Tour.
