Message from
the Co-Directors
The Parkinson Research Consortium (PRC) was founded in 2004 to bring
researchers together in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. The PRC aims
to offer better solutions and increased knowledge of Parkinson’s on the
way to a cure.
Your participation in Lap the Gats for Parkinson’s means further support
and awareness of the crucial research being done in Ottawa, which is then
translated into better therapies and options for patients everywhere.
100% of the revenues from the Lap the Gats event goes to the PRC to fund:
• Fellowships for researchers in cutting edge laboratories at the
University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute; and,
• Specific novel projects examining the degenerative process in PD.
In 2014, Lap the Gats raised over $80,000.
Join us in 2015 for another opportunity to support this worthy cause!

The PRC is led by Dr. David Park, an internationally recognized investigator
and professor in Neuroscience at the University of Ottawa, Dr. David Grimes,
a clinician/scientist who is currently the head of the Neurology Department at
The Ottawa Hospital and leads the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement
Disorders Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital and Dr. Michael Schlossmacher, a
clinician/scientist and the Bhargava Research Chair in Neurodegeneration, The
Ottawa Hospital and Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
These leaders have brought together world-renowned scientists and
clinicians, working to generate novel findings that will hopefully lead to a cure
for this devastating disease. The PRC is unique in the world of medical
research in that it actively encourages collaboration among researchers.
Today’s researchers are confident that they can find a cure and a treatment to
prevent the progression of this disease and improve the quality of life of
those suffering
Why support
the PRC?
The funds raised for the PRC go directly to the advancement of innovative,
leading-edge research into the causes and possible treatments for
Parkinson’s disease.
The funds generated are also critical to support the training of our young
scientists, the next generation of bright minds who will tackle this
devastating condition.
